Saw Green Day pull some 'random' kid out of the Brixton audience to play guitar with them on one track, possibly "Geek Stink Breath". My little band of concert-going friends and I thought that was brilliant gesture. Six months later, Green Day were one of the bands on at a weekend festival I was attending with the same group of friends when once again they ask if any member of the audience would like to join them and one of my friends remembered seeing them do the same thing at the previous gig. When the 'random' kid was brought on stage and introduced, it triggered a memory for me: it was the same kid. I mentioned this to my friend who said "Can't be, what would the chances of that be?" About 100% if it wasn't 'random' chance at all. We were due to see the band again four days later at Nottingham's legendary Rock City. At the venue, and by actual chance, I met up with another concert-going friend who - in trying to make us all feel older than we wanted to believe we were at the time - had brought along his teenage son for his first ever rock concert. This friend hadn't been with us or either the Brixton gig or the festival and so I said to him "I'll bet you that at some point tonight, they'll pull some random kid from out of the audience and his name will be Sean, from Dublin." Now, my stance on recreational drugs is common knowledge amongst my friends and I could tell by the look on his face that maybe the worm had turned for me since I had last seen which had, admittedly, been some time. Lo and behold, a 'random' kid was pulled from the audience and he was indeed called Sean and hailed from Dublin* The friend I made a bet with was a scared-of-nothing squaddie and the look on his face was now less of disappoint and more of wonder and even a hint of fear; I had seriously freaked him out. With it being only four days between gigs this time, the other mate who had been with at both previous gigs said "You were right, definitely the same kid." I did share this inside knowledge with my squaddie friend who was clearly relieved that I hadn't become a (complete) freak while he was away defending queen and country but I think we all lost some respect for Green Day over that. * All these years later, I'm reasonably confident I've got both the kid's name and his city of origin correct but he was definitely Irish and definitely the same 'random' kid on each occasion.

He was going to come up on stage for a song, But get kicked out trying to get on the stage too early and the band missed it. So when they did the gig and said they were gonna pull someone out of the crowd they couldn't find him and panicked and ended up pulling me out of the crowd. I was on LSD at the time and messed the whole skit up. I was back sage later and we all had a big laugh about it. I was gonna leave out that the band was phish at NY becon theater if anyone saw that show... Ask your Hippie friends about it, cus it was the first and only time they pulled someone out of the crowd. I had to jump on a trampoline while playing guitar. Imagine staring at 30000 people playing guitar high on acid while jumping up-and-down on the f****** trampoline. I did terrible lol.
...and then you wake up and it turns out the whole thing was a dream...except it wasn't. You got to be a Hive. Can't imagine the surreal kvell coursing thru that kid's veins.
Make a point of it! Especially if u can catch them in a smaller venue. I've been fortunate enough to see them twice, years apart, and the second time they were just as entertaining and action-packed as the first time I saw them on Vicious tour.

Lead singer wasn't too impressed and gave a speech how NOBODY kills the sound on the FUCKING HIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and then there was rock). EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
