My 6th grade math teacher started every term by stating "Math is so important that it's even with you when you're de@d. From your tombstone a person has to subtract your date of birth from your date of de@th to calculate how old you were when you d1ed." Might of been a bit morbid but hey I'm over 60 years old and still remember this.
@@astrokirsten Can you please share how you deal with all the math involved in astrophysics and not get tired and frustrated with it? Thanks for sharing.
I didn't read the title and proudly solved the problems after struggling for a bit. But then I read the title about them being for kids and now I am sad because I had them both wrong the first time around.
That was fun! I also have the tendency to make it more complicated than needed, but hey: As long as we get there, right? Haha. The video made me feel like I was in class again and I loved it. Thank you!
I can’t see any way of solving the second question without using simultaneous equations, which I didn’t learn until high school. I cannot imagine how a 10 year old is supposed to be able to solve the 2nd question.
I solved this question in my head in 20 seconds and that includes cross checking it. THIS is what they call HARD these days? I guess human intelligence has dropped a long way since I was in school.
That's awesome for you mate, really, but this take reeks of elitism. People's brains work in different ways and at different speeds and just because someone can't do a math problem in the fastest time possible doesn't make them any less intelligent. There are different aspects to intelligence, mathematical intelligence (plus speed) is just a small part of that, and I think that's an important thing to remember.
What math or physics problem should I do next?
AstroKirsten and Tibees maths exam crossover please.

That was fun! Next up “Cooking with Kirsten!” Where she demonstrates using maths to make only 1/3 of a large recipe!
Haha I love that!

I solved it my Grandpa way, he was blind and didn't know how numbers of letters look, yet he used to solve puzzles by imagining real life objects.
Definitely interesting seeing their more visual approach. £ is for UK pounds btw, not euros (€)
Ah thank you! I think that's just what the automatic transcriber that I use picked up but now I know too!
The value's close enough they are basically the same. :P Even after Brexit.

I kind of enjoy working out problems like these, but they also kind of hurt my 🧠

That's so wonderful, you're welcome in the AstroKirsten classroom anytime!
Fun vid. Maybe a kids astrophysics experiment or cooking video.

she did it, right there
Now I am wandering how I would have solved it.
I'm hearing crickets in my head! 🤔
More math.. lol
Not sure why people are going bonkers with math being compulsory.

Im fairly certain, I could not solve this
At 3 minutes, and you started it off hard..
Personally, I was starting algebra in 5th grade US, so 10-11 years old.
Yep haha I made it too difficult from the beginning!
Not quite "too difficult," because you got to the correct answer, just went around the hard way :-)
