Bonjour Catherine, merci. What a superb collection of arid plants . Perfectly arranged and what a view into the fields beyond too . Excellent video and of course music selection, which goes without saying.
very beautiful garden 👌, it is interesting how the gentleman managed to solve the narrow space of the garden, I also really like the work with stone, there are interesting stones and color combinations, very nice! Greetings from the Czech Republic😊
Hi David, Yes, my friend Nick did a good job with the layout. And I also like the rocks, there will be a similar adjustment in my garden with many rocks. Only the separate compartments are not really my taste, but each to their own of course.😉 The rocks are also a good solution for raising, Nick planted everything above the ground surface. That is the best here with us for desert plants against all the wetness. Speaking of wetness, hopefully you have no damage and/or problems from the extreme rainy weather there the past few days? 😔It's really bad in your country, good luck anyway! 🤜👍
@@Dimi.Exotic.Garden hello Dimi, yes you are right, soil moisture is quite a big problem, here in the Czech Republic it hasn't rained at all for almost 2 months, now the floods came, it just rained a lot at my house, but luckily I didn't have floods, even so I had to do all the palm trees precautions and covered all the palm trees with foil so that not so much water flows to the roots, it was 400 ml of water over the weekend, the rest of the country is a complete disaster, entire houses and streets have disappeared, only destruction, stones and mud everywhere, a friend's large water flooded his ornamental garden with palm trees, there was half a meter of water, now the water is receding, the palm trees are still alive, but it is autumn and there is not enough heat to dry the soil, I am afraid that they will all die of rot, we will see how it will be...
@@davidtomanec That's terrible to hear David. We all see it here in the news on TV. 😔 Fortunately, you're not suffering too much. If it's any consolation, most palm trees won't be bothered by so much water. They can handle it well. Just protect them well against all precipitation this coming winter and then it will be fine, as long as it doesn't freeze too extremely of course. 🤞🤞 But it's still terrible to experience. 😔 I wish you and your friends much strength and courage for the recovery time that will now come.🙏💪 Good luck my friend 🤜
@@timmillan6701 Hi Tim, Normally that should be a Brahea armata, even though it was bought under that name.🤷♂ I actually didn't pay much attention to it. I'll have a look and discuss it with my friend Nick. Well noted by the way, thanks.👍
@@timmillan6701Oh, but a full crown of leaves or not has nothing to do with the species. That simply depends on the circumstances and health of the palm, etc. You must ensure that the palm always has and retains as many healthy leaves as possible. So never prune green leaves, even if they are ugly. Only prune completely dry and brown leaves. Also protect well against the winter so that the healthy leaves are not damaged. In this way, the palm will grow more and more leaves and also retain them. This also forces the palm to grow more roots underground to provide the many leaves with moisture and nutrition. That is a vicious circle that you must get going and keep going. This is how you get the healthiest, most beautiful, thickest and strongest palms. If you have a lot of winter damage, this process is also interrupted and you have to start all over again. 🤷♂️ Many leaves are also necessary for good trunk formation. The more leaves, the thicker the trunk will become, the larger and healthier the leaves will become, etc. Look at my Brahea armatas in my garden, they do have full crowns of leaves. 😎 I looked up the characteristics of Brahea clara again. With that I looked at my friend's Brahea again. It is not a Brahea clara, you can see this best by the stiff leaves. Brahea clara has typical limp hanging leaf tips. And indeed, every Brahea is beautiful, I also like the different types. 😍 Although I only have experience with Brahea armata & edulis. Greetings Dimi. 😊👍
Hi Cecilia. My friend Nick uses a similar winter protection as I use. You can also find more pictures and information about his winter protection on his Facebook page -> facebook.com/groups/732898470240004/ In any case, a roof over the plants, so that they are certainly well dry. There is also very good drainage in the ground, which is very important for these plants here in our wet land.👍 I told my friend that he should also make an account on TH-cam, so that he can also answer etc...😉
