for context- in the beginning of the clip blaine, the character darren plays, left his private school where they had to wear uniforms and he transferred to kurt’s school, so that’s why he told him that he couldn’t believe he didn’t notice the clothes he was wearing :)
As for the ended, Santana was using the performance as a distraction to have the cheerleaders drench the piano in oil. They were in cahoots with the girl smoking the cigarettes. Its a plan from Sue Sylvester to ruin the Purple Piano weekly exercise Mr. Shue planned.
Also, this was Blaine's "audition" for Glee, I think.

answering all/most of hannahs questions:
1) kurt left mckinley (the school this song take place at) and went to a school called dalton academy. he met blaine there and they started dating. kurt then went back to mckinley and blaine decided to transfer there as well so they could be together.
2) all transitions in glee are abrupt, this honestly isn't the worst of them.
3) there are close up shots of the cheerleaders because people weirdly sexualize people playing high school girls
4) santana is up there with blaine in second command for no there reason other then the fact that she is also a main character and cheerleader (i think)
5) quinn was the one smoking the cigarette that she threw on the piano and she did it on purpose to light it on fire because she used to be a part of the glee club until she got pregnant, gave her baby up for adoption, and became a "bad girl" and decided that the glee club ruined her life
Santana is there because she is leading the cheerios to douse the piano in lighter fluid.

I think it's specifically the sexualization of cheerleaders. Not highschool girls. Cheerleaders are a whole *ahem* genre and lingerie category.
Cough Syrup is a lot of people's favorite Darren performance in Glee.
He has more solo's than most of the origional cast
Agreed and was going to make the same comment, but then if you watch the clip it was part of, the Karofsky content is quite triggering and wouldn't be the best to have for Hannah and her fans

@@ElizabethNicoleSchwartz Even with a trigger warning, you cannot really focus on Darren's singing and making critiques when the majority of the scene is what is happening to Karofsky - this is really one of the darkest moments of the whole series (excluding Shooting Star and Bash)

Context for the piano burning & cheerios:
Sue told the cheerios that they needed to destroy the purple pianos b/c she wants to take down the glee club. Santana’s in the glee club but also the captain of the Cheerios. Sue told her she needed to pick a side, either destroy the pianos or get kicked off the team. So the Cheerios performance was a set up. (When they’re running around the piano they’re dumping lighter fluid on it)

I love Blaine's versions of "Hey,Jude", "Cough Syrup", "Suddenly Seymour", "All of Me", and "Teenage Dream". Side note, I think listening to "The Scientist" would be so cool! It's a group number( not only Darren's voice), but the song pierces right into my heart every time I hear it, the music and the scene.

There's an acoustic version of Teenage Dream that Darren sang which was recorded live for the performance and he was amazing in it, cough syrup is also another great cover he did just to name a few

I LOVED his performances of “Something’s Coming” and “Don’t Stop Me Now.” His singing toward the end of “Hey Jude” is also *chef’s kiss*
If you want to pick a song that really shows his talents, I would go with a live song. Darren is the only cast member to get whole songs (that end up in the albums) live, so that already says something. His two live solos are "Against All Odds" and "Teenage Dream" (but only the Season Five version). Or you could go with the recorded but equally impressive ones. So basically, here are the top five I think you should choose from:
- Teenage Dream S5 (LIVE)
- Against All Odds (LIVE)
- Beauty School Dropout (my personal favorite Darren solo - his voice is just so soothing and perfect)
- Fighter
- Cough Syrup (tons of people will most likely be saying this one)

I have to say I also love the later version of Teenage Dream, where he sings with SO MUCH emotion and as far as I know, they left his original singing instead of a retake in the studio, like they usually would have done. Just because it applies so well and he is playing it SO WELL. I love it so much.

Everybody's talking about how Cough Syrup is Darren's best performance and I have to say that as much as I do love CS, his version of Somewhere Only We Know is one of my favorite songs ever.

Darren's best performance in glee: Somewhere Only We Know. Season 2 Episode 18: Born This Way. By far. He also performed it in a church in London(correct me if I'm wrong) and my God, I'm in tears. It's so magical. The acoustics are heavenly.
“Not gonna teach your boyfriend how to dance with you” is one of my favourite Darren songs and fun fact if the glee cover with the longest name
You should do the “dream on” version when Neil Patrick Harris guest stared, he sings it as a duet with Matthew Morrison. Season 1 episode 19. Context, they are auditioning for a community theatre production of les mis.

By this point in the show, Glee realized people were really there for drama or the music so the weird transitions to songs became more noticeable.
I love Kevin McHale’s cover of Dancing with Myself, also from Glee! It’s not one of the main songs but I just really love the way he sang it!

I love watching reactions to song from Glee without context, though with context makes them so much better since you know the significance of that particular song. Well, most of the time since there are still song songs that just don’t make sense with the situation.

Everyone is definitely right about “Cough Syrup” being his best song in Glee. But I am also in LOVE with his acoustic performance of “Teenage Dream”. It’s definitely less polished than many of his others, but it’s so raw and beautiful, it literally makes me cry every time 😭
