@Henry Baxter So you don't believe the morden day safety equipment keeps the Race Car drivers safe in the Race Car by its self You haven't been around Racing You need to wake up safety equipment were on Race CARS before street CARS go get educated
The fact that someone can walk away from a crash like that is a testimony to the sport and the safety standards put in place to this day. He may be upset be he gave us all a great show. 👍
The amount of money they spend on the equipment NHRA is requiring now, is nowhere near the amount their lives are worth. This crash would have been a tragic passing had it happened 10 years ago.
@xslick...C'mon man. There have been numerous wrecks, this bad or worse, that weren't fatal, and significantly further back than 10 years ago...Schumacher's wreck at Memphis was at least 20 years ago, Cory Mac had another close call later that decade. And these are just the ones my mid 40's self can remember. Not to mention, Scott Kalitta's fatal crash occurred outside your fictional, 10 year safety window. Expressing positively about driver safety is an admirable trait, turning those expressions into poorly researched over statements is not.
@@nvclxud Quite the contrary. I quite enjoy exposing the BS overstatements that permeate these motorsports video message boards. In fact, the only thing that troubles me are the shear amount of dimwits that post without thinking, or at the very least, do the bare minimum of research before they start typing. Oh well, it's a hobby...
Outside of a couple of huge fires, I can't remember an accident that had so much potential for causing severe injuries. Chassis builder Jonnie Lindberg will get my business if I'm ever so foolish to own and drive one of these monsters.
Holy S***, THAT was right on the cage, like Tim Grose w/o the metal guard rail..wow! SUPER glad he is okay!! I was NOT expecting that when I clicked the video...😳 🙏🤘🏻
It was in every one of those Diamond P crash vids in the 80s. Plus Snake really threw Tim under bus commenting on it. I still don’t know why he trashed him to this day. Met them both and they were really nice guys.
Thanks to all the engineers, Men and women for all the hours of work to make it so we can get home safely. An even bigger thanks for those who lost their lives. because without your biggest sacrifice we definitely wouldn't be where elwe are without them. RIP drivers, see you at the greatest track in the sky.
I hate that all these newer crash highlights cut immediately. Follow. It. I don’t need to see the start of it again while he’s still sliding at 100 mph
Air build up under the back of the body. A dual layer rear wing that the top flange of the wing is connected to the deck area. The bottom layer is connected to the rear panel.. the body between the panels has slots.. the tip acts like a siphon and the faster the car goes the more air is pulled out from under the rear body.. The upper panel could have a piano hinge so it could fold over the back of the body for transport or if air pressure below it increases. Some under body air pressure test runs need to be made. Could be as easy as a map sensor for turbocharged engine applications so it reads both vacuum and air pressure.. 20 bucks 3 wires and a data recorder
Really? Do you think the Lord would have protected him in that crash if there was no cage of any kind? I’m pretty sure that the cage builder has a lot to do with the driver’s safety. And the helmet, and the restraints.
Jesus. That's eerily similar to Greg Moore's crash. Different discipline obviously but landing upside down on a concrete barrier. Good thing Doug is okay
Ehhh, bit of a stretch there. The least of which, Moore wasn't completely enclosed in a welded, steel tube roll cage... Plus the whole, Moore was dead before reaching the hospital and this driver got out and walked away, thing....
@@codymoe4986 I'm saying the crash itself was similar to Moores in the fact their cars went flying through the air and landed upside down on a concrete barrier right where the driver was at. Did I not already say that? Roll cage or not usually an impact of that kind where the head is has tragic results. See Bryan Clauson for example. The car that hit him wasn't going anywhere close to 200 or 250 mph. Also, I was comparing the crashes, not the outcomes. Like I didn't Moore died. Come on now, you just want to argue
SAME THING happened to me on my Cub Cadet riding mower, IT'S got 22HP KOHLER MOTOR AND runs on regular gas I hit a slick spot in the yard got sideways and hit the house, I walked away unhurt also you've got to look out for those slick spot's
You do realize these machines aren't like driving a factory Toyota Camry, right? These top alcohol engines produce about 4,000 horsepower. It isn't easy applying that much horsepower to the wheels without breaking traction. In this case, he got a bit over to the right, out of the groove, into the loose stuff and the car just immediately broke loose.
I drag race myself. Nothing that fast high fives in the 8th. I was making a joke but it is hard to believe how a car can go sideways so quick at that high of speed
@@mikelohmeyer4140 Yeah, everything seems to happen faster at those speeds, including the wrecks. You can see that car was moving around pretty good even before he got out of the racing groove. It just seems the best bet with any of these faster cars (anything that can run 200+ mph) is to abort the run if it starts moving around on you. It is just too risky to stay in it.
That was an ugly one. Looks like it hit and rode the wall just in front of the roll cage, still put a pretty big dent on it. Could've been much worse if the cage had took the brunt of the impact.

Jonnie Lindberg built the chassis.

Kole Johnson, I thought the same thing, it was like the driver's compartment was grinding along the wall for a second.

That crash looked lethal. Amazing he got out of the car that fast. 👍👍
Chassis builders are the most important people of drag racing. This is amazing that he was able to get out and live to race another day.
Also shows how good the concrete walls are compared to yesterday's armco barrier.
The rollcage and leg protection shrugged the crash off like a champ.
Best wishes from the Uk,glad he is ok and walking .

GOD BLESS SAFETY EQUIPMENT!!!
Thank God NHRA has great safety rules!
How long it slid down the wall
And how it went over it
