Thanks Rafal, as soon as I saw yours, I knew I had to do something similar. I’ve made quite a few improvements since then including a removable adjustable leg under the pulley arm to prevent tipping with heavy rounds. I’ve split many cords of wood without issue so may I say thanks again for the great idea!👍😊
Agree few reviewers, add a end table and leg to hold the rack up! Great job! Always trial and errors!! Ideas always come along! Thank you for sharing!!
That is a great idea with the pulley system. Just a minute into you splitting and can already see ways to improve. A separate system would be great for the lift. Also, A fixed table for the logs to rest on while splitting other pieces and the lift attached to the end of that table. Could possibly be too far to reach the lifted logs though. I really like how this is simple and out of the way.

Yes you are right about the splitter being a bit too low as many others have mentioned and I’m over 6’ so that adds to the problem. When I started this mod over six years ago, I was focused on a lift aid to keep from grunting those heavy rounds up onto the splitter. It was a prototype in the beginning, but after building and installing all of the components, it became obvious that virtually every component would have to be changed to accomplish that. In reality, it’s really not painful to use and I do have a bad lower back. While splitting, I always have three points of support going on ie both legs and one arm. In the beginning, it would have been very easy to raise the i beam, but at this point not so much. Thanks for viewing and your comments!
Great splitter- do you have a release where the lift doesn’t go up and down when you are splitting the same log? Seems if it would stay in the up position it could be a great table to slide your log onto once in half to continue to split the other half. Nice job tho will save your back for sure 👍🏻

Good idea but I think I'd rather have it powered with another cylinder and a diverter valve so I wasn't dodging the lift every backstroke. It'd really help about not being limited to working off of one side. And it works better with the wedge through the wood. Don't have to run everything back every split cycle. It is a fine idea though.
Yes it can be on either side. I chose that side thinking it would get a bit crowded on the same side as the valve, but I occasionally run it from the lift side and there is plenty of room. I have made some improvements to the design and will post a new vid when I find the time. Thanks for your comment.
A leg on a hinge will make table stay up . When you are ready to load a block just kick it out flat with ground then the table will lower but when you raise it will stay up to hold block half . That's what I am going to do. With mine.
Thanks for your comment. I’ve actually made several mods since I built the lift. I was going to do just that with the lift but managing the slack cable as the carriage moves forward would require a long light spring to keep the cable back as the carriage moves forward. Never found the correct spring to do that, but probably will as table up while processing the larger rounds would be helpful. I should repost with the improvements that I have made such a removable arm with an adjustable foot that keeps the Splitter from torquing during 150lb plus lifts. I’ve processed many cords of wood since the build with few issues. Thanks again for your input!👍
Mmm, I see your wood lift with gas engine, I took off my gas engine to go to the electric cause in the garage, I can't run the log splitter with gas. So I'll try to see if my electric 1/5 hp will pick up fairly decent log round Not 33" diameter log cause too heavy to move around let alone split darn thing

I bought the splitter from Northern Hydraulics 25 years ago. No model # but it's a two stage most likely an 11 gpm and a correction on the Honda eng, it's 5.5 HP

with a fixed wedge you need a table on the splitter to catch the splits.

You didn't show how you did it. My splitter stops if there is pressure on the return stroke.

Yeah and spend $500 on a crane. No thanks. This is a huge cost savings and is much simpler idea.
