I'm late to the party but I always love when you go full smutty and talk romance books. The way you try to suppress your chuckle and own your love for regency romances makes me want to whip out my debit card and buy them all with no shame!

I know you said you wouldn’t do a worst of video...but I’d love to see one anyway! ;) The Sea of Rust sounds awesome, I will definitely be checking it out! Can’t wait to see what you end up loving in 2018

Ah thank you! Psyched to read Jamison's portrait of Lowell, she is a heck of a writer and knows what she is talking about, love love love her. Also intrigued about the non fiction - Little Golden Books as well as House of Government. So many books, so little time!

I just discovered your channel and am catching up. (Love it, btw.) Joel Sartore is a friend and former colleague of mine, and I was thrilled to hear his incredible Photo Ark project mentioned here. 😀

Sea of Rust sounds intriguing, another one for my ever lengthening "want to read" list.

Lovely video Steve. I read some of your best list and added a bunch of books to my tbr. Sea of Rust and Poet in Spain sound both magnificent, I love those bilingual editions of poetry. I agreed with separating Sci-fy and fantasy.

Interesting side note, Folio Society actually published the first complete Duke’s Children. Not sure why EL states they are first but it’s the first affordable copy that is for sure!

I hate it when they cut an author's original work, I was so happy when Stephen King got famous enough to make the reprint the Stand as he wrote it.I have read a ton of debut and new to me authors this year and I have been pleased with most of it. The best romance I read this year was- Kiss Me At Christmas by Valerie Bowman, it had a great thriller back story I thought it was marketed badly, it was so good.

This is such a brilliant and generous list, and I love the way you always afford respect to reading experiences across the spectrum. I can only imagine the gasps from my hardcore sf/fantasy friends though...they do take this genre definition business Very Seriously. See also the bust-up every year about whether something is too much of a fantasy to be eligible for the Arthur C Clarke award. Sharke infested waters most definitely. 😊

The Ministry of utmost Happiness has to read... Re read... Re re read.. Re re re read... Re re re re re read.. Just to understand 10% of what Roy had written.

Hey, you sent me a copy of Sea of Rust and for that I’m very grateful. Who knew it would be your top choice? I would love separate lists for sci-fi and fantasy next year!
I definitely want to pick up House of Government soon as well.
Thanks for sharing a piece of your life with us Steve, and have a happy 2018.

Guilty. I'm a lazy bum. But I did read about your best of Sci-Fi and Fantasy and about the books that traveled with you everywhere and I intend to read your best and worst of 2017, but you know reading is such a dreadful toil:))))))
