I loved using Obelisk against my friends. He was actually in my Destiny Hero deck, and I just loved to watch them think, is summoning dogma, plasma, or Obelisk?
I feel like a cool thing you could do that has nothing to do with Top 10s would just be like, videos about different eras/metas/strategies and discussing their history and such. Like how different meta strategies evolved, how they worked and why they were so dominant, for people who didn't experience those eras, like TeleDAD, Frogs, Dragon Rulers, Nekroz, and so on. When you get into snippets of history in these top 10s, I just want to know more about each deck type and format and you do a good job of describing those things.
Hey, Super Rejuvenation still has a lot of usage in Hieratics, which tribute dragons as crazy, and easily can give you a +4 at the End Phase. Also, other cards you forgot nobody played at first, were Cold Wave, Trap Dustshoot, and Kaiser Colosseum.
Personally, as much as I love him and his deck, I really think they should've stuck with the original plot and made Crow a Dark Signer and hastened Rua's awakening instead of slapping it on a 3v1. Sure it gave Rua some character development but it came sooo late and I would've loved to see a Crow vs Jack or Yusei duel considering they're childhood friends
When me and one of my best friends were ~7, we were playing casual Yu-gi-oh! with our collections as decks basically (circa 2005). Sometimes we'd play a three-way-duel with his brother. We all thought Upstart Goblin was the worst card in the game, and it kind of became a meme that his brother would sneak this card into our decks before playing. True story.
And it's not an actual Signer Dragon (in the games). That's the real reason why both Black Winged Dragon and Power Tool Dragon are not Dragon-type monsters
@@PrimeGamator Yeah, Black-Winged Dragon, along with being utter shit, it was shoehorned in because Konami knows the kids will eat all that shit up and ignore the fact that they retconned a perfectly fine plot twist in exchange for sales of an archetype that's dwindled in popularity over the years.
Blackwing Dragon desperately needs a retrain, the current state of the card is absolutely horrendous, which is a shame because the artwork is so cool and unique
I.....LOVE sphere mode, it is the ULTIMATE finger to your opponent when they try to locked you down on their fist move by summoning 50 monsters just to summon 3 or 4 with lockdown and negate effects. MMMMM! I just love countering that BS with one card! IT JUST FEELS SO GOOD! :D Sorry about the intensity, it's just such a good card at countering the current meta. You cannot go wrong. :)
I wonder if anyone ever sided Ra at the height of Sphere Mode's use just so that if their opponent Sphere Mode'd them they could sac it off for a free 4k beater with a non-destruction removal effect...
Yesterday I completely wrecked a borrelsword dude with Sphere Mode. Since i left him with a weak unprotected monster, I proceeded to break his ass using Guardian Slime to God Slime as tribute for Ra plus banishing Ancient Chant and playing Blaze Cannon to bring a 9600 ATK beatstick immune to card effects. It was friggin' EPIC.

My idea for Top 10 Meta Changing Moments in Yu-Gi-Oh is still what I want to see. Comparing XYZs to synchros to links to pendulums to archetypes being introduced or even single cards being introduced and changing everything may be difficult, but as someone who hasn't been keeping up with the game, I would be very interested
Nice idea, sounds like it would make for a good vid! I'd also like to recommend a great vid by Roobindale in case you hadn't seen it that goes over how the meta changed. It's more the older stuff but I think the next one they're making may cover these eras. Just wanted to let you know in case Duel Logs doesn't get round to this one ^^ I think it was called "The Complete History of the Yu-Gi-Oh Meta" or something close!
Slight correction, but Cup of Ace was run primarily in Mill Decks as if you pull heads, you get free cards, and if you get tails, you fill your opponents hand up so they have to discard/have less cards in their deck
A point about Solemn Judgment - the card always seemed super strong to me. I wasn't really that competitive as a kid, but I went to a couple of locals, and Judgment was a total house. It was less that the card wasn't good back then - it was good from day 1. It's that a lot of the player base hadn't figured out that Life Points "don't matter". I started to notice this perception shift among the player base as they played against the card - at first, half of your LP seemed like a huge cost, and then you lost the game to a Solemn and realized "hey, that card is pretty good!". I also feel like the card was more popular with people who played MTG, at least at my LGS, probably because MTG theory was better developed than YGO theory at that point, and the MTG community had already long since realized that winning the game at 1 life was acceptable at worst, and hilarious at best.
Super Rejuvenation always seemed like a good card to me, I just never knew how to really make it worth playing - even in Dragunity decks from the 5Ds era. It stuck out to me like a "Card of Safe Return" or "Heart of the Underdog" in that it had the potential to let you draw way too many cards.
Oh, how exciting! I was thinking of this the other day: about how the game has evolved so much and how a lot of cards that never used to be considered good have found play. Thanks for the list!
1Bolzard1 right, I mean sure a normal summon in decks got more and more important however even if negated 20 special summons are not really a big thing anymore.
When solemn judgement first came out back in the metal raiders days, It was heavy used in all the top decks in my region. having three was the standard and the using it with mask of darkness to bring it back. Top players even used Jirai Gumo's as well
7:35 "No one was playing Solemn Judgment in the actual days of the Goat Format." Me: "Don't cite the deep magic to me, witch, I was there when it was written!" I played Solemn Judgment a lot back then. My whole sponsored team did, even naming ourselves after it - Team Judgment - making it a popular card in the Pacific Northwest, both as side- and main-deck control options. So yes, I'd say modern Goat Control format players are well within their rights to use it.
Another thing to think about in Duel Links is that Cup of Ace's negative effect is still good in deck out strategies, stalling or forcing your opponent to deck out. So Positive means more tools to deck out your foe, and "Negative" means that the foe is down 2 cards in their deck.
@TheDuelLogs Cold Wave a common from pharoah's servant a card that wasn't widely used until yata lock was in full swing. People played it at first to stop the counter plays to yata and chaos emp and then realised locking your opponent out of traps and magic for a turn is really good. The ban however came a little later due to it's wide use, not because konami thought it was broken, but because it stopped board interactivity or counter play, which as an opposing player feels really bad and ruins the natural flow of the game.
Goat format has now quite consistent FTKs in it that no one played back in the day. People before 2014 were just bad at yugioh anyway Maxx C should also be on the list imo.
Pot of greed would always be good. Its just a free plus 1. Raigeki will always be good against most decks, but mirror force can be terrible sometimes now
Don't remind me of duel links meta august 2019. I'm happy they nerfed desperado. That was almost tier 0 bruh 😂😂😂. Like it was soooooo strong. That's why the game needs solemn judgement already. It's already got some insane powercreep. It started off as a weird meta of random jumbles. Now it's archetypal otk or control-centric meta. Like invoked just powercreeped the game almost as much as darklords. And the only thing keeping darklords away from tier 0 status b4 desperado was going first six sams and going second fortune ladys. Duel links was a mess man.
The opposite would be good. Top 10 Cards People Assumed to be Amazing but were Garbage in YuGiOh. or how about Top 10 "Puny" Cards that can take down Amazing/Boss cards.
By far the biggest disppointment would have to be toon monsters. Even the god cards with their nerf would have been somewhat good in early Yu-Gi-Oh. Toons were hyped to be broken cards that required little set up to totally dominate the game. Yet any card that destroys spells can ruin your whole game if you don't have a counter ready.
@@Play-On7 while if they did what they did in the anime now they'd probably be fine today but back then they would have been ridiculously broken although I think they should have lent on how they turn others monsters into toons in the show that would have been cool
RedJoker9000 Number 52 Diamond Crab King comes to mind as a “puny” card who can take down a boss monster. It was mainly a generic xyz monster with a slightly more complex way to become a beat stick, yet became widely used as the best counter to Apoqliphort Towers.

I might just be ignorant, but I think it's not as good in duel links because not too many decks run same attribute, different types. Shiranui runs pretty much completely zombies, Dark Magician is pretty much all dark spell casters, and black wings are all dark winged-beast. Although there is a single moment where you can make a big comeback against black wings, when they go for hawk Joe. But other than that, I don't think too many meta decks run same attributes but different types... I say that but I run Dragunity who would actually get blocked by this -_-
That's frustrating... I use to use Grinder golem BEFORE link monsters and NOT for inferno tempest. The deck I used was creative, unique and surprisingly functional. It made me feel like Legos before every box was a theme box and told you what to build.
My friend was running Solemn Judgement back in PSV days, but he's won Grand Prixs and played at the pro tour for MTG so he's always been deep on the big-brain plays.
You forgot one other thing with Cup of Ace, which I learned when some of my decks stopped being legal on Duel Links. Cup of Ace is also nasty in mill decks. Especially when using cards like either Dark Mimic or Hiro's Shadow Scout. Include solid Fiend support and monsters like Bistro Butcher, and you had a deck that assaulted the player on more than one front. Same with cards like Conscription.
Metaverse, mystic mine and trap trick look good for my casual malefic deck, activating virus cards, chain disappearance, skill drain etc, while also searching field spells, and mystic mine limiting my opponent when i only control one malefic at a time all seem fun. Man,I loved when you mentioned Cup Of Ace,A card which allows you to flip a coin,if it lands on heads, you draw 2 cards, but if it’s tails, your opponent draws 2 cards
One card many people dismissed because it was in "Started Deck YuGi", the first base set ever made. That car was: Last Will It special summons any monster from your deck with 1500 ATK or less. Lots of Options even back then, powerful monsters which you put in the deck on their own, but with the added effect of selecting which and removal of the normal summon usage. Completely overpowered and got banned eventually, just overlooked for many years because people did not bother checking old sets.
Max Mairo oh trust me, it’s not powercreeped at all, a lot of people are calling for it to be either limited or banned again because of how op it is, but it’s a necessary evil, if the meta decks weren’t so strong then Super Poly wouldn’t be necessary
in regards to the Solemn Judgement. It saw plenty of use [I played competitive back then] It absolutely CRIPPLED Beat down decks [The Hayabusa variant to stop them from getting beefed up with united, mages, and scapegoats] And it also stopped the summoning of Jinzo [which incidentally, we used horn of heaven to counter it as well] Solemn Judgement, also stopped the older LP drain decks and deckouts that focused on running Gravity Bind and the Magical Scientist fusion OTK before they banned it, as well as the original Beginning and End Deck before Chaos End and Black Luster were banned to stop them from gutting the Light and Dark monsters from Witch and Sangan by preventing them from hitting the field. It was useful from day 1 onward. It was a mainstay in every single deck you ran back in that card shop and local tournaments in Jersey back then.
Kind of funny seeing the part about Solemn Judgement. I used that card right away when it came out and had a lot of success with it. Surprised not a lot of people used it back in the day.
I ran ancient fairy dragon in my Karakuri deck way back in 2013. Summoning an extra monster and then blowing up the field spell let you synchro another Karakuri boss monster which summoned another Karakuri. Then you could overlay ancient fairy for a dracossack summon two tokens synchro one of them with your Karakuri from the Karakuri boss monster, it was nuts
ok this is a little off topic but how the hell are pendulum cards supposed to work? I've read & seen multiple explanations but it just doesn't make sense to me. How and wtf is a performapal???
Place a pendulum monster in each scale, once per turn you can pendulum summon as many cards from your hand, or face up pendulum monsters in your extra deck that are between the 2 numbers in your scales, excluding the number on it. When pendulum monsters are in the scales they count as spell cards. If a pendulum monster is destroyed by battle or by a spell card which says destroy then it gets sent to the extra deck face up where it can be pendulum summoned. Keep in mind it has to go to an extra monster zone if you pendulum summon it from the extra deck. I think that covers the basics
Metaverse is a better terraforming for one reason before what you said. like with all trap cards its effect can be used during your opponents turn, allowing you to activate a field spell that might boost your monsters attack points or some other effect that is advantageous when your opponent attacks. Keep in mind that some field spells can have really broken effects that if they could be sprung as a trap card during your opponents attack, could very well decide the duel by strengthening your monster, weakening theirs, protect your monster from destruction, or some other power play.

"Out of the five 5ds dragon synchro monsters" *shows power tool*
Crow: "am I a joke to you?"
Black-Winged Dragon really doesn't count. The writers of 5D's literally changed their plans for the plot of season 1 partway through production to change Leo being a Signer and Crow being the main antagonist to Crow becoming a Signer and Rex instead being the final boss. Power Tool got cucked son.
@@ParadigmZwei ah-huh, but life stream is the final 5ds dragon, power tool was never said to be one of the proper dragons. ...since he's a machine... he's just used to make him.
@@mythology2467 Yeah but had the writers not changed their plans, what happened with Life Stream Dragon vs. Aporia would've no doubt happened in season 1 instead. @@ParadigmZwei Ah-huuuuuuh, but that didn't happen until the end, so for the majority of the runtime Crow is the fifth signer with the fifth dragon.

That's be really cool!
Hey, Super Rejuvenation still has a lot of usage in Hieratics, which tribute dragons as crazy, and easily can give you a +4 at the End Phase.

RIP crow, you don't even count as one
Personally, as much as I love him and his deck, I really think they should've stuck with the original plot and made Crow a Dark Signer and hastened Rua's awakening instead of slapping it on a 3v1. Sure it gave Rua some character development but it came sooo late and I would've loved to see a Crow vs Jack or Yusei duel considering they're childhood friends
Also his dragon sucked ngl
In the original story (the games) he is not a Signer so serves him right
The real 5th one is the lifeline Dragon isn't it?
@Torilati are you refering to Life Stream Dragon?
When me and one of my best friends were ~7, we were playing casual Yu-gi-oh! with our collections as decks basically (circa 2005). Sometimes we'd play a three-way-duel with his brother. We all thought Upstart Goblin was the worst card in the game, and it kind of became a meme that his brother would sneak this card into our decks before playing. True story.
I love how you didn't include Crow's dragon with the other signer dragons. What a joke of an "ace monster."
It isn't even a "Blackwing" monster so you can't summon cards like Bora of Gale off of it.

I played Solemn Judgment a lot back then. So yes, I'd say modern Goat Control format players are well within their rights to use it.
I remember opening a ghost rare fairy dragon and being disappointed it wasn't any other dragon lmao.
Another thing to think about in Duel Links is that Cup of Ace's negative effect is still good in deck out strategies, stalling or forcing your opponent to deck out. So Positive means more tools to deck out your foe, and "Negative" means that the foe is down 2 cards in their deck.

Cold Wave a common from pharoah's servant a card that wasn't widely used until yata lock was in full swing.
People before 2014 were just bad at yugioh anyway

ok this is a little off topic but how the hell are pendulum cards supposed to work?
@@josiahvock5675 you can just put two pendulum monsters down at the same time then do all that free summoning??
I love all your content, I like how you do your videos with reasoning

Metaverse is a better terraforming for one reason before what you said. like with all trap cards its effect can be used during your opponents turn, allowing you to activate a field spell that might boost your monsters attack points or some other effect that is advantageous when your opponent attacks. Keep in mind that some field spells can have really broken effects that if they could be sprung as a trap card during your opponents attack, could very well decide the duel by strengthening your monster, weakening theirs, protect your monster from destruction, or some other power play.
