I read it rather than listening, but after watching The Sunlit Man book discussion, I had to go back and listen. The way he did Aux' voice added so much to the character! I wish I had listened to it the first time around!

He did one character in a way I didn't like, but I thought about it later and if he didn't know that character, created a voice based on only the interaction in this book, it makes sense.

In my entire life I had read about 10 full length novels. 8 Months ago I made an audible account while there was a sale going on so I paid like 1 dollar a month for three months, something like that and total I ended up with like 5 books for the total of 3 dollars. Completely spiraled from there and I just realized a couple days ago that I have 'read' 32 and a half novels in the past 8 months. Dresden books 3-17, the entire WoT, and I'm on the third Mistborn novel now. It's crazy that in the last 8 months I have consumed more than three times the amount of novels I had in my entire 29 year life up to that point.

Regarding listening at an increased speed: I’ve trained my mind over the course of a few years to have a sort of time dilation of sound. Most of the time when I’m listening at 2x, my experience is of hearing someone speak at 1-1.5x. With audiobooks especially, it’s to the point that I often check whether my speed is actually as high as I expect it to be because my experience of the telling is much more accustomed to that sped-up pace.
I was unable to appreciate books at my current speed in the same way when I was first experimenting with faster speeds, but now I listen to everything at 2x and only rarely does it not feel “normal” to me, and with what I think is a pretty solid appreciation of the craft that goes into narration.
If I feel a book merits leisurely soaking it in more or if the narrator is using a much faster pace, I’ll slow down my speed to match what feels most natural. However, this has also broken my brain to the point where experience most normal-speed audio as occasionally painfully slow and it’ll take some retraining to go back to that pace if I ever do.
That said, my brain says William DeMeritt sounds really great at…I think I did 1.8? Especially voicing Aux!

The way to get to double speed (or higher) is to go up slowly (0.05x) at a time, when you feel comfortable with that, go up again. Eventually you get to 2x. Each jump feels noticeable but trivial.

23:18 : Fun fact, the guy who translated Dracula into Icelandic in the early 1900s thought the original book was boring (or something) so he decided to make a whole bunch of changes, including adding a lot more erotica into the novel. Nobody noticed until like 2005 that it was pretty much a completely different book.

Listening to this interview at double speed, having heard The Sunlit Man at 2.5x …
    😳
I find that it’s much easier to follow when it’s faster. Normal speed makes my mind wander (but is obviously more artistically ideal).

That was an incredible Henry Cavill impression! Would love to see more mainline Cosmere books with this guy who is more proficient with English accent

I got to say the word "representation" gets my hair up because I don't know where the conversation will go but I like how it was handled here and that dude's voice is great.

One of the most core memories I will ever have is shuffling through and replacing the Harry Potter cds cause each one only held like 40 minutes of book
