While the film's obviously seems to be a broad metaphor for the irish civil conflicts, there's so much universality to it. We've all had problems (that shouldn't even really be problems) spiral into disasters and then exponentially mutate into catastrophes. Perhaps out of stubbornness, perhaps out of miscommunication, maybe even an all consuming despair that just swallows you and everything good about the world into it. God, I just can't stop thinking about this film.
No, not all. Some of us do have real problems that mutate no matter how hard you try. I didn't chose to be ill, my country did not chose to be at war with their genocidal neighbour, people don't chose to be abused etcetera. Many of us are crushed by their burden because there's noone there to share it with them or help alleviate it. Not all ofus do that to themselves, for many of us life has dealt bad cards, not all of us have a choice.
Actually Padaric is a very intelligent and intuitive person. The fact that he listened to Colm and asked if he was dying showed a sense of empathy and real concern for his friend. Colm should had opened up more to Padaric and tell him what he really wants to do instead of just trying to shut the latter up by cutting off his own fingers.
Yeah, no shit genius! What conflict would the movie have then? Also, one doesn't have to be very intelligent or intuitive to show concern for a friend who's talking about time running out... The whole point of the film is people doing NOT what they should have but stupid shit instead!
It's not the shenanigans with the ad blocker. And it's not the fact that the Share and Clip buttons override the Save button. I just don't like you no more, TH-cam.
I've been in this situation before with my friend, I was like Colm I just wanted to be left alone cause I felt I'm wasting my life but at the same time liked my friend and didn't want to push him away. I can relate to what Colm is feeling and understand Padrick's opinion.
I'm in this situation right now. 24 with a long term girlfriend and trying to get my life together. All my friends want to talk about are videogames. I can't have a serious conversation with them anymore, it is like they've all crawled into these shells and none of us tell each other what we think anymore (like when we were younger) because no one wants to hurt each others' feelings.
They live a rustic island life in the early 20th century, especially in Farrell's case his appearence is deliberately a bit rough. I actually think Gleeson has aged great, he's got that beautiful thick hair that will always look fantastic.
While I've only ever been on the "getting dumped" end, if someone tells you they want to sever ties, then it's their right. Explanations are good to have, but it doesn't change the fact they want to leave. And how would they know that it's temporary, if it even is?
@Onigirli definitely is their right no arguments but if there is a nicer way of going about things that can lessen hurt to someone and dosent infringe to much on your plans it could be given closer consideration if your a nice person 🙂

I wish more people got this film like you did

People who conflate “empathy” and intelligence likely lack the former, but certainly lack the latter…

Well He did tell Padaric what he wants to do. He didn't just do it. He told his ex friend he was cutting off his fingers and low and behold he did it.
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849imagine getting this mad at someone’s comment about a non existent character. Relax lady
Check the smart arse here? You tell the writer how you feel.

gotta win Best Picture. Not even close, in my humble opinion.
They've got older since Brugges. It's been a while obviously.

😂😂😂😂💋
I've never heard of this film, but this "In Bruges" reunion just sold me on it
Same director/writer as In Bruges.
"Limited man" is such a good insult
Not really. Everyone is limited in one form or another.
