You have mastered the basic controls well enough (even if it took you a while to find the magic). Note that there are quick keys (find them under settings) to directly open the Inventory, Map, Magic and Skills menus without the need for the extra step of pressing Tab and then select. (Mine are the keys I, M, P and U, respectively - but I don't remember if they are the default or if I changed them.) I have also not seen you do a shield bash yet. It costs stamina but it's a useful move to stagger a melee opponent. While you keep holding the block button, hit the attack button. If I should recommend one mod, it would be the one called 'A Quality World Map'. For one thing, it lets you see all the roads much easier, including small dirt roads.
This series has been enjoyable so far. Very genuine reactions. I appreciate any first-timer willing to share their experience. While I prefer watching players who don't stream (because they are fully focused on the game), you seem to be able to strike a decent balance and not have more than half the time being chat interaction. (Editing probably helps, too.) You said it (and I saw a Short showing it): you are WAY further ahead in the game that's what shown here, so I find it hard to give any advice because it will likely end up looking stupid. I could maybe be of more use during the end of the playthrough, if you are looking out for more things to do.

Your companion CAN carry an infinite amount....IF you ask them the right way. It is probably a cheat but here goes...Drop the items on the ground, click on the companion and click on the "ask them to do something" option, then click on the dropped items. They will then pick them up.
