    The fact that there is no national database of rogue cops is insane. This enables police officers suspected of crimes to quietly resign, move to another jurisdiction, and join another force. That, and qualified immunity, almost guarantees that criminal cops will proliferate, and that those forces who don't adequately monitor bad behavior, will attract thugs who have fucked up somewhere else. Derek Chauvin is a prime example of this happening.

    • @soulmechanics7946
      @soulmechanics7946 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How so? What happened with Chauvin?

    • @alexmatthews3419
      @alexmatthews3419 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@soulmechanics7946 Chauvin had 18 misconduct complaints over the course of a 19 year career. Only two ended in any discipline at all, and those were ended in letters of reprimand. In spite of this, he was well known for his aggression and overuse of force. One of the misconduct complaints we know of was of a woman driving with an infant in the car, coming home from the grocery store. She was pulled over for going 10 over the speed limit. Chauvin reached into her car, unlocked her door, and forced her out of her vehicle, leaving the infant alone in her car while she was put in the back of his car in handcuffs for 15 minutes. With no further reason given, she was let go and no ticket was ultimately issued.
      The department of justice's investigation into the Minneapolis PD following the murder of George Floyd is a particularly nauseating read, particularly due to the nature of the crimes and violation of constitutional rights inside. Much like with Chauvin's case, the misconduct was reported. It was simply not acted upon. www.justice.gov/d9/press-releases/attachments/2023/06/16/minneapolis_findings_report_2023.06.15_0.pdf is the link to the DOJ's report.
      Now, what OP talked about isn't quite right for chauvin, but it is a well known issue amongst Criminal Justice Reform Advocates. The same as how there's no national database for cops who use deadly force at all.

      @@soulmechanics7946. Over 1000 people were killed by police in 2022. Chauvin had a long history of abuse of power and he was known, for years, to be unstable and violent. Still he was able to operate with impunity and even be promoted...until public outcry and protest, after the George Floyd murder, forced the hand of the DOJ.
      Most killings by police are investigated by internal police departments, who have a vested interest in hiding bad behavior. Without independent and transparent accountability there is little chance of this type of corrupt and criminal action being stopped.

      Because your right to remain silent shuts down everything cops do to trick and lie to you in order to throw you away. Especially, if you have called for a lawyer.

    If you're wondering on my opinion on cops in general, I'm middle of the road on my opinion of them. On the one hand we need them to arrest dangerous criminals, but on the other hand they are disproportionately violent towards people of color. On the one hand, it seems like they get corrupted too easily, but on the other hand it's satisfying when they arrest someone who actually deserves it. They can be your worst enemy through unnecessary police brutality that you don't deserve, but they could also be your best friend by showing up to save you from a dangerous criminal in your house.

      News flash they only act after crime has happened in most cases and don’t save u from anything. If we place funds into what causes crime, poverty and mental illness. We can reduce the amount of crime significantly bc believe it or not most ppl want to be loved and no one chooses to commit crimes for no reason.

    Why is it always the higher ranks, LTs, captains, doing these stupid and crazy crimes? Lol. Kind of a rhetorical question because I can think of plenty of reasons why, but still.

    No, that cop arresting the cop is a good cop. He could have let him go and taken a false report, I stopped him and let him off on a warning. Nobody is looking at the body cam footage without reason to. The reason the cops get away with crime is that they investigate themselves, they can just be suspended, not an inherent evil in cops.
    This cop doesn't control the other cops and they probably don't involve this guy because they know he's a good copp.

      The bar for "good cop" is so low that all they have to do is literally just follow the law while on duty? Like everyone else?

  • @Direwolf1771

    “Cops are bad at their job, if you just lawyer up and stay quiet they can’t do anything and the wheels come off.”
    You’re not wrong, generally speaking. But I suspect that the assumption that you’ll just waive the lawyer and admit to everything under the lightest pressure is because most criminals are bad at it. They either leave so much evidence that there’s no need to get a confession, or with zero evidence the cops can just get one by bringing them into a small room and asking.
    Cops aren’t dumb, *people* are dumb and cops are people. So are criminals.

    The thing I don't get about the whole Holtzclaw situation is how it seems like he participated in any way?
    Purely because he's a cop, even though the case Hasan argues he did has no evidence for, and in fact evidence supporting him for?
    I don't think it was the whole conspiracy to slap the guy who was investigating this SA ring, more likely they were just pinning it on some guy they didn't like.

    There's enough actual bad cops out there to hate without him needing to make this cop out to be one of them. He was so against just calling him what he is, a good cop. They do exist, regardless of how big or small of a percentage they make up. Labelling an entire group of people after the actions of a few is why racism is still alive and well in the world. Not all cops are bad just because some are.
    Still though this vid is hilarious, and even hasan had to admit this sergeant is a gigachad cop. Wish there more cops like this guy, the standard even.
    EDIT - Just thought I'd mention my biggest beef with police is the system behind them. I believe how they are trained and taught is the issue, including the fact that it's too easy to become an officer and more strict regulation is needed.
