    Thanks to TfL for kindly let me inside to go and take a look around, and to do so you have to go in via the disused tube station King William Street ...

    They demolished a building I worked in - 10 King William St, to create access for this, so I knew about it back in 2014. Thanks for finally making a video about it Geoff!

      Got rid of the entire block! Fascinating to use Google Street View history slider to watch it all disappear. I'm sure they'll put another high rise building on top but it looks nicer as an open space at the moment.

    I was there in the 90’s when they redid Angel Station and opened up Bank Station to the DLR. Not much fun during construction work but much better when it was done. Bank Station was always filthy and full of soot. This looks another good improvement. Saying that I haven’t lived in London in nearly 20 years and have no real desire to go back.

  • @andreawoelke
    @andreawoelke 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It seems a failed opportunity not to use the old C&SLR tunnels for a travellator to connect Bank to London Bridge. At rush hour lots of people seem to take the Northern Line just for this one stop to connect between Central/District/Circle Lines and Jubilee Line/Trains at London Bridge. A travellator could take a significant chunk of those people off the trains.

      The original 1890 tunnels under the Thames were built with the downstream tunnel (closer to the bridge) at a shallower depth than the upstream one. The shallower tunnel was used for northbound trains to reduce the uphill gradient into King William Street station. This required the tunnels to cross over each other near Borough. When the new line to Bank was built, it branched off the original line north of this crossover and so also had to be back to front from that point until there is room to cross back again near Moorgate.

    Why at 1:07 we see the project drawing panels with text in English and Spanish? Why Spanish?
    Is it because Dragados are a Spanish firm?
    Anyway I've always wondered why the DLR has never been extended westwards to Leicester Square or Charing Cross!?

      amigiac they should resurrect it as it would ease some congestion going to the west end, serve (I think some new developments are being built along barking riverside, but don’t quote me on that) barking riverside and Dagenham

      Because cross rail is happening and they are extending the northern line and the station upgrade they can’t do so many things at once

    Geoff I saw that in Boston in the US they put old trains on display on spare subway p!atforms. Can you think of anywhere in London where there is space to do the same thing?

    EXTREMELY INTERESTING. I JUST ATE THIS STUFF UP !!! I'll have to see the maps on the TfL website that you spoke of.
    - Why is it right hand operation from between Elephant and Castle and Moorgate ?
    - Joe Brown's London Track Book shows 3 platforms and 5 platforms at Bank (on the Northern). What's that all about ?
    - I'm excited about the people mover/movator/moving walkway or what have you, also. I totally share your excitement about that and the original tiles also. YES !!
    - You have 4 letters below your name at 9:48 ! You funny guy, you !
    Thanks so extremely much, Aarre Peltomaa of Mississauga, Ontario
