My Mother's Castle - French's Ending style

My Mother's Castle (French: Le Château de ma mère) is a 1957 autobiographical novel by Marcel Pagnol, the second in the four-volume series Souvenirs d'enfance and the sequel to My Father's Glory.
It was the subject of a film made by Yves Robert in 1990 which is faithful to the original plot but which includes material from the third book in the four-novel series, Le Temps des Secrets.

What a delight these films were. They are not saccharine but present a charming account of the world seen through the eyes of a child. I have since read all four books which follow Marcel through his young life (and of course have read the unconnected L'eau des collines ). Marcel Pagnol was celebrated in his day but has been sadly neglected I think by most readers of today.

The most incredible thing happened to Marcel Pagnol, when he was a successful film maker. He told his manager to buy a chateau to make a film studio, and left it all up to him. When Pagnol first looked the chateau over, when he went into the garden, he realised it was the same chateau which was 'his mother's.

Such is the life of man indeed…this ones hard not to get teary over because we have all experienced these devastating losses….they are inevitable, but still hurt so much.
