This ink reminds me a lot of Sailor’s Manyo inks. I love their colors, but like this Ink Studio ink, they’re often too pale to be useful to me. I use F and EF nibs, and they don’t let those inks show their attractive shading. And writing is close to illegible. I gave away bottles of Manyo Haha and Manyo Kikyu to a friend who says they look amazing with his M and stub nibs.
$0.9/mL is expensive, but only by comparison with a 50 mL bottle of Akkerman ink or Diamine inks. Having spent more thousands on my pens than I’d care to admit to anyone who knows me, and being able to get more words per mL with my EF nibs than one could get with an M, B or stub, I don’t find the price in principle all that disturbing. But given the availability of beautiful inks for much less than that, it’s more than I want to pay. I’d need a more saturated ink with a bigger wow-factor.

Thanks for the comment James. I have not tried any of the Manyo inks. Sailor makes so many inks.
I think $0.9/ml is expensive compared to most of the ink brands that I use. Waterman, Iroshizuku, Aurora, J. Herbin, Kobe (made by Sailor), Diamine, Montblanc etc. etc.
I do like my Sailor inks but if there is a good alternative from a cheaper brand I'll at least try a sample of it before I rebuy the Sailor.
On the plus side I do like the option of having smaller bottles. I wish Pilot USA would bring the small Iroshizuku bottles to the USA.

Not all of the Sailor Manyo series are crazy multi-colored shaders like Ink Studio 123, but several do behave quite similarly, and some are even dark enough to reasonably write with. At $24 for 50 mL bottle, they are still pretty expensive, but not as bad as the Ink Studio. Fuji and Koke are probably my favorites of this type, but Haha, Nekoyanagi, Hinoki, and Ayame all shade into unexpected colors, and are super well behaved too.

Sailor’s Manyo line is mostly both very lovely and very affordably priced for the 50 ml bottles. The Sailor 50 state inks also have quite a lot of very attractive colors and shades. I like the pricey Shikiori line best. The Studio line has, by far, the most extensive variety of inks, with the predictably hit and miss nature of their appeal to most of us.

@@BlakesBroadcastSmaller (glass) bottles are very necessary and appealing option to have as a buyer of bottled inks from favored brands.
For very good but cheaper alternatives to Sailor, I’ve found some of Taccia’s inks to be rather worthwhile to try and perhaps buy.

The color reminds me quite a bit of Sailor’s Manyo Fuji. It appeals to me. But I was disappointed by Fuji, because it felt rather too dry in four different gold nibs in different size points I tried it in (F, M, a wet M and a wet broad). Also, the color seems mostly too light and faint on all the papers I tried. From your review, I suspect that the Studio 123 would be not too different from the Manyo Fuji. The Studio line is pricey with a numerous array of inks that it’s inevitably hit and miss. I like and enjoy Sailor’s Shikiori (again, quite expensive) line of inks more than the Studio inks, in general.

I don't think this ink is particularly dry but it is light and hard to read. I have two Shikiori inks and I really like both of them.
