my god if he had known what was coming around the corner for Nick and John ...This guy must be devastated he missed the train to megastar. But then Duran Duran are blessed with SLB .The best front man any band could wish for and without him that train may of never arrived
I wonder what would have become of DD if they ever remained in that very early line-up, which, now according to what is evident from The Devils album, was pretty avantgarde (think of early Material, Cabaret Voltaire and the like). It's funny now that the DD line-up that made a breakthrough were already a fourth (or even fifth?) incarnation, while Stephen Duffy for quite a long time was lost in obscurity. Love his solo pop-stuff.
Although they say it has a stupid guitar riff and lyric, 'Big Store' is actually REALLY good. In fact most fo the Devils' album "Dark Circles" is good.
@Bawbster1, Kiss me with your mouth was a bit whimsical, but if you have a listen to the Lilac Time you might appreciate him more. Stephen Duffy is a genius, underrated and overlooked songwriter. Type in 'Grey Skies and Work Things' to you tube and have a listen to this delicate folk song that merges into jazz and back again. Much as I like Duran Duran, Duffy really is on another level compared to them.
Everything happened the way it was supposed to. Stephen leaving gave Simon an opening to join DD. Stephen went on to Tin Tin and The Lilac Time. I only wish the Devils project could have morphed into another era. Dark Circles was just a snapshot of what they could do.
like stephen's sense of humour...Nick's always been a little devil...what also comes through is how avant garde John was too with the ironing board and white plastic on amps! lol
John and Nick were the pioneers of The Devils not Duran. Interesting. Nonetheless, John Taylor is the one that help put DD on the map as their own sound. Not another “punk” band. The influences of funk, punk, and rock combined, is what Duran Duran is about. IMO. Thank God John focused on bass and ran with it beautifully.
Richie Y-W You mean another one after Dark Circles? Yes, good question. They seem to have enjoyed the project and have retained the creative chemistry after all this time.
Nick has always been so amazing at coming up with unique sounds. I like Stephens voice but after awhile it’s annoying. When they were talking about those pictures.. and Nick said John uh, Nigel’s pictures.. I wonder if he ever calls John, Nigel?
I love Duran Duran, but Simon always struggles with his voice in live concerts. At times it sounds terrible. Simons voice in Duran Duran is awesome in the studio, but terrible live.
lakechaney yes you have your opinion, I’m 50 yrs old now, discovered DD, around 1983, I was 14yrs old, being a fan since then. But being a hardcore fan, doesn’t change my opinion.
lakechaney and yes they do auto tune his voice in the studio, that is a fact. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. Ever professional artist uses auto tune. You need to know how auto tune works to understand why. It has different levels of recording to enhance the quality of sound. Your idea of auto tune is base on many of the crap music and rappers of today’s popular music uses.
lakechaney I’m old enough to know, I myself is now part time musician. You mention auto tune. It’s not exactly auto tune. But a studio has the equipment to make a recording better quality, if ones voice is only mediocre, as Simons. And yes his voice is genuine in live performances. And I understand your a big fan. But don’t let that stop you from admitting that he’s voice struggles to hit certain notes. But his voice is a unique one.
lakechaney as I sit here and reply, my 12yr old granddaughter, is listening to that exact crap that you speak of. Ugh. But let’s not give up hope, there are some good modern music, it’s just not considered hits on a popular level.. Sad.
fuck that - have you ever heard the song "Kiss me with your mouth"?!? - SUCKS. Stephen "Tin Tin" Duffy leaving the band was the best thing that ever happened to Duran Duran. ;-)
I love early Duran Duran so much

Oh te be born in the 60s to have lived through the period of late 70s...
Just simply amazing!!!

I wish Duffy would have been a DD singer... Such a pity he left...
Was this recorded on a dodgy old VHS machine? :)
Can Sthephen play or be part of the group nowadays Nick ?
(if you read this)

Destiny had other plans for Mr Duffy. Still. He's a good singer. And wwhy don't these two do an album?

No, the video is from 2003. The quelity uploaded is bad.
No Simon, No Duran Duran

lakechaney...ugh Cardi B is a perfect example of modern crap music. If you call it music.

Stephen "Tin Tin" Duffy leaving the band was the best thing that ever happened to Duran Duran.
