I love this series because of how much they care about the mystery. It feels like they’re getting the true experience.
This episode completed my favorite character dynamic between Pacifica and the twins. Mable’s friendly and accepting attitude is just what Pacifica needed to open up and start listening to people outside of her elite circle.
Dipper on the other hand, is hard on Pacifica. He is willing to point out every flaw in her character, and encourage her to change herself for the better. They’re just the tag team duo that Pacifica needed.
On a related note, I absolutely think Dipper and Pacifica would be great together.

Really loved the Pacifica development, and was disappointed they never expanded or explored her more by having her be in future episodes or have changed her character interactions accordingly in the show.
But they did give her more time in the Face Stealer comic.

Dipcifica really is the power couple this fandom didn't know it wanted but latched onto. Pretty much every popular post-series fanfiction and fanart involves them together in some aspect.

I mean it is 100% abuse. It's a dehumanizing way to condition someone whether or not it only represents a small punishment. Her dad sucks. I think it makes the climax of the show better, though. It's easy for a kid to defy tradition, but it's hard for them to defy their parents.

This is a show I never would have been interested in seeing if The Blind Wave wasn't reacting to it. I'm so glad I gave this show a chance and it's been a hell of a ride.
Fun behind-the-scenes fact: Matt Braly, the director for "Northwest Mansion Mystery," won an Annie award in 2016 for his work on this episode. He also went on to be the creator and executive-producer of _Amphibia,_ one of _Gravity Falls'_ sister series along with _The Owl House._ Not only does _Amphibia_ carry the unique character humor of _Gravity Falls_ but also drew on Pacifica's brief character arc for inspiration for many aspects of one of the young female protagonists and her development throughout the show.
There's also lots of callbacks to _Gravity Falls_ and one episode in particular that heavily implies there's a shared multiverse between the two shows (and that Dipcifica is all but confirmed canon).
Apparently Matt came up with thr Ghosts motivation. According to Alex, had it not been for Matt, the episode wouldn't have come together.

I really hope they react to Amphibia after they finusb Gravity Falls. The first season has a bit of a slower build up but dang that show exceeded my expectations once we hit season 2.

Fun fact: Alex ships the shit out of Dipper and Pacifica. In the third diary Dipper has entries on the happenings of almost every episode and in this episode he writes about Pacifica looking “pretty good I guess” in a gala gown, that she smells of flowers and champaign and about the hug he says “is it only me or was there something going on?”. Then in the lost legends comic…. Well thats a spoiler since it happens after the show.
Even better is that Dipper's drawing of Pacifica is in the exact same headshot profile as the one he did of Wendy earlier in the summer when he had a crush on her. Dipper also tried crossing out what he wrote about Pacifica. My guess is they both probably started laying in bed late at night sometime in the future, thinking about one another, and awkwardly coming to the realization that they were going through the motions of young love.
Also, in the Special Edition copy of Journal 3, there a hidden message on the page with Dipper's thoughts on Pacifica and the mansion ghost. Its under the removeable picture of the ghost and written in invisible ink. It reads:
Roses are red,
Pacifica's blood is blue,
I read what you crossed out!
I'm onto you!
Start combing your hair, Brother!

Spoilers:
1. Dipper and Pacifica went and threw her parents tapestries in a river together
2. Dipper’s search history showing Pacifica pageant videos (for what dude? What are you looking at that for😭?)
3. Pacifica almost made a deal with bill in her dreams. After she woke up, she immediately saved dippers number on her phone. And it stated how she never slept better in her life after that. 🥹
Gravity Falls previous Scariest episodes ("Headhunters", "The Inconveniencing", "Summerween", "Scary-Oke" and "Into the Bunker") walked so "Northwest Mansion Mystery" could run.
Literally, this episode takes the cake and blew the other scariest episodes of Gravity Falls out of the water, due to the dark themes featured in this episode, death and of course blood was featured. I guess it's one of the reasons why Disney moved the 2nd Season of Gravity Falls to Disney XD over Disney Channel considering how this Season and this episode wouldn't fly on the Disney Channel. Of course, _The Owl House_ and _Amphibia_ did had some graphic and darker episodes, but those shows didn't happen until years later after this episode came out.
Overall, this episode gave development to Dipper and Pacifica Northwest respectively and how you actually sympathize with her on what she's been going through and how her parents especially the father (voiced by Nathan Fillion) really made Pacifica the way she is. Not to mention the dark backstory of Archibald Corduroy (Wendy's ancestor) and his death which would explain why he's haunting the Northwest Mansion as a Ghost.
Lastly, this is the *FIRST* and *ONLY* _Gravity Falls_ episode where Grunkle Stan and Soos don't appear and I'm impressed that Alex Hirsch and the voice director of the show brought many guest stars on _Gravity Falls_ many of which you hardly see in a Disney Cartoon series, such as Nick Offerman, Nathan Fillion and of course Alfred Molina, John Oliver and Coolio, especially the former two actors. Plus, this episode is once again directed by Matt Braly the creator of Disney's _Amphibia_ and previously directing the previous episode "Blendin's Game".
Can't wait for the next two episodes everyone is looking forward to.
I still think 'Into the bunker' is the scariest episode but they're both really good episodes. This episode had much better character moments for Dipper and Pacifica but the subplot with Mabel blowed ngl whereas 'Into the bunker' was purely focused on the mystery and shapeshifter.

Sure the Shape-shifter from "Into the Bunker" was scary but can *THAT* episode and the shape-shifter compete with "Northwest Mansion Mystery" that had blood spilling on the walls and animal bust heads from the Northwest Mansion, the dark atmosphere of the Mansion and the Ghost of Archibald Corduroy who had a gruesome death (hence the Ax on his head) shown in this episode? So frankly, Northwest Mansion Mystery was more frightening than "Into the Bunker"

This is my favourite episode of the show :D Dipper and Pacifica’s interactions are so cute, and her character development is some of the best in the show in basically one episode.
FUN FACT: The form that dipper "died" in is the same one the shapeshifter told him he would die in, but then dipper came back to life. So the prophecy that the shapeshifter told was technically not wrong.
He did say "the last form you will EVER take" so I think the changeling was wrong. He probably didn't account for Pacifica opening the gate

Pacifica and Dipper's connection continues in the "Lost Legends" GF comic. It puts a great finish on this character arch. If you haven't read it, I recommend.
The animation in this episode is phenomenal. It’s a dark, intense story with some terrific character development and wonderful themes. And that ending with the painting TERRIFIED us all back in the day.
The way Calvin defends Rick is just amazing

Pacifica as a spoiled brat character made sense after this episode. Alex Hirsch and his team somehow made the stereotypical rich girl character into a character who's actually human.

"Used To Be About History Channel" is one of my favourite jokes in the show.
I realized something cool from a comment on another channel’s reaction to this episode, and figured I’d drop it here on my rewatch.
There’s a cool bit of continuity and status quo shift in the setup for this episode, the reason the Northwests enlist Dipper to help is because they saw the article of him fighting off the supernatural in the Gossiper, the paper run by Toby. And, two episodes ago, he was a member of the Society of the Blind Eye.
So, not only was the Society wiping peoples minds, they had control of the paper. But, since their fall, this story is allowed to be one of the first widely publicized stories of the supernatural in a long time, because nobody remembers the Blind Eye or their mission.
26:48: The agents are just following the kids to see if they know something. That's it. Don't think about it too much. XD
Dipper: "Pacifica Northwest is the worst. And that's not just jealousy talking, I'd say that to her face."
Pacifica: "I need your help."
Dipper: "You're the worst."
Perfect.
Next episode is probably the best episode in the entire series
Fun fact: You mentioned the ghost being an eleven scale, well in the Gravity Falls Journal 3 book, the ghost is a category eleven ghost, and is revealed to be one of Wendy’s ancestors: Archibald Corduroy.

One of the best episodes of the series: had some insanely dark imagery (somehow this was allowed but a gay couple wasn't goddamn it Disney), created a new and very beloved ship, managed to make people like one fo the most annoying and hated characters, all while being hilarious and progressing the plot.
From this point forward this show goes from good show to an all Time great

One of the best episodes. Child bells like that are an old form of physiologically controlling child and are considered a form of abuse. And talk about kicking off a ship. You know it's good when it takes only a single episode to create the most popular ship of the series. It's one of those things you don't know you want until you get it.

After watching the whole series, I hope and recommend for you guys to have a read through of the physical copy of Journal 3. There is a lot of things in the journal. If possible you can get the limited edition with the invisible ink or atleast borrow it from someone.

Most parents in fiction are either dead or awful. Although, Anne's parents from Amphibia are pretty great.

@@andrewli6606 I loved how _Amphibia_ didn't go the safe route of Anne hiding the Plantar family at first and just told her parents (mostly) everything that had happened. The fact that they adapted to the insanity that came with that knowledge shows how much of a power couple they are.
But then you have Camila Noceda, who's probably not going to have an easy time coming to terms with what Luz has been through.
Two more fun facts (if they haven't been addressed already in the comments) about the lumberjack folk.
1. It is believed that the zombies who had awakened around the Mystery Shack were in fact the lumberjacks who'd lost their lives in helping build the Northwest Manor 150 years ago. Years of mudslides from the mountains where they were originally buried eventually made their way down to the forests around the Mystery Shack. Thus the undead appearing when Dipper used the incantation.
2. The Firebearded Ghost who haunts the Northwest is the ancestor of Wendy Corduroy.
I thought I couldn't love Gravity Falls more, and then you react to the show. 😭❤️
Such a great episode! Dipper and Pacifica's dynamic throughout the story was so well written, and helped facilitate Pacifica's redemption perfectly! The more horrific, grizzly visuals in this one also helps it stand out among other great episodes! And it perfectly sets up the next big storyline of the season! Can't wait for next episode!
