So we should always buy strikes which when added to the premium are close enough to the spot price. This way we can make a profit even out of minor moves in the spot price in our favour. I was doing just that when I started trading in options and was making good profits but after watching so many videos of youtubers I got confused and started buying ATM and OTM option strikes which resulted in losses for me. OTM option is like a baloon filled with air, which is having a hole by default, where the hole keep widening as the day get near the expiration.
The thing many traders choose to 95 or 10 premiums is, Liquidity. We may b right that it will go 17300 which is just 15 or 20 points move. But we might or could not exit at 500 or 505 premium, but can exit at even 96 or 10.2. The problem is liquidity. We cannot find much liquidity in ITMs in comparison with ATM or OTM.

Truth is I leave the numbers and all my trade affairs to my Licensed pro analyst, 4 years ago when I started investing in stocks & bonds I partnered with a Financial advisor/Portfolio manager Mr. Leonard Bracher, he suggested I bought some stocks that he knew would yield valuable profits and he also forecasted that these companies will triple their net-worth in a space of 4 years. I would say be a chart reader and go for a Deep in the Money Option and use it only for Intraday Trades.Dont carry over positions to the next trading day (definitely not for a weekend) as there is a Theta Effect and also if the market falls the next day the option is a loss.
Buying very deep in the money is also not a good idea as there is liquidity issue.We may end up selling it at market price and not our desired price.
We can use this Deep in the money for Stock Options too but we end up paying for lot size which is huge and there is liquidity issue..
There is one more solution Buy a Index future and buy a ITM Put Option or sell an ITM Call Option but thats something of a bigger risk as market is at an ATH (All Time High).
I am also thinking in the same line but haven't traded this way (future + option hedging). If u have done the same, u can throw some light on the same
@@fintalks6478 one example is today.Market gaped up and opened at 17044 .after settling down (volatile time till 9:30)we fought 17050 .later as trend turned bullish I bought 16900 CE and after a 100 point move bought 17000 CE.exited all 3 at 17244.

@@fintalks6478 I thin buy deep in the money option using a bull call spread .Example today market is 17150 .Buy 16400 and sell 17500.You get margin benefits ,we can increase no of lots and also be prepared for a reversal.Market is uncertain right?

I just lost 10k today, buying OTM CE option. It was OTM by just a slight margin. But Nifty deep dived today. Also, I paid for the mistake of not checking the option chain and FII data before buying.

Nice explanation bro, but most of the retail traders do scalping so lets say if the market is moving upwards the second option will give him good returns in a short time whereas the ITM option wont give him that much correct me if I am wrong most buyers dont wait till expiry

I disagree with you. ITM will always give you more profit than ATM but the capital requirement will be more. So your profit %age may be less than the ATM but the total amount of profit you make will always be more than the ATM strike option.

Dear sir you didn't cover some of the important aspects of deep ITM.
1) very illiquid, it will be harder to exit. As much you go deeper in ITM that much illiquid the strike will be.
2) high delta may go against you if market goes against. A 10 point down means Rs 8-9 lost in case of deep ITM
While only rs 5 in atm.
Delta and vega plays much bigger role in profitability or loss than theta in deep ITM.

I don't understand why people complicate things in India. The phenomenon of option buying is simple. What is the opposite of time decay? - it's gamma, if there's time decay acting against us then we should focus on capturing gamma acceleration. just identify when the gamma values are rising, it is usually at the critical level breakouts or at the break downs. Practice price action guys. Don't complicate things :(

Btw, I'm totally freaked out of the freaky trades. I don't want to lose my capital, and these frequent freaky trades are making conservative traders likes me very uncomfortable.
Please correct the calculation, by selecting 17700 CE there are 50 lots purchased and by 0.8 delta buyer will get 40 rupees where at 16800 CE buyer gets only 9.20 rupees..

Buying ITM strikes absolutely makes sense but why on earth any option buyer will hold their open position till expiry. I do both buying and selling but hold to positions only with a trailing SL. Never wait for strike to go zero unless you're a seller.
In the given example of 10 rs strike, one can hold it only till the time it turns may be 12 (20% up move), of course u need to be correct with the direction and momentum. If you wait for the 10 to go 20 then like shown in example, probably you will be doomed.
And always use a SL, always.

What are your views about intraday option buying, where most of people wait for quick move in any direction and get out in a matter of few minutes? he already said in the last part of the video, even if your loss of 10-15 points, as an day trader, than our loss will be very negligible as thetas affect in otm and itm sees to be different , please watch last 5 mins you will understand it
For intraday trade ITM option is more risky, better to go with OTM option. I think every trade is good in their own way, option picking purely depends upon the situation and your view on market
@@ramnathsaigal5337 What I feel personally is that carrying long positions over night (especially in banknifty) is highly risky. Index option buying (ITM or ATM) is good for intraday if you have strong conviction or thoroughly tested setup.

Thanks Saket, excellent explanation, one question, normally we say that Option Writers are smart people, if so then who is writing the deep ITM options ? If buyer's become smart then there has to be equal number or "less smart" writers who will be writing deep ITM options.
They are just try to hedging the position 👍 hope now u get they are not stupid neither buyer are stupid it's just view from individuals perspective
Only the smartest of smart people write in the money calls. Bank Nifty was trading at 39000 and 38500 had the most call OI . We all know where the market ended up this expiry. Only the smartest and bravest mostly the operators would do it.
I take buy position on a call option of strike price of 100 on a stock. And within 3 days this stock has reached to 130.
My question is that the same strike price may not have such liquidity which was before 3 days. If so what to do ?

The concept you explained from 30:00 to 34:50 i have a doubt in this just asume the trading amount is same and nifty goes 50 points up then we are getting 50 points profit from otm and 43 from itm
Just calculate for 50 points instead of 10 with same delta and theta value and you'll understand what am saying
