  • It's here! We know you look forward to it every year because Dan and Mike are sure to look like fools by season's end, but here come the Eastern Conference predictions. The similarities between the predictions are kind of eerie, to be honest, and that can't bode well for the guys.
Along with the East preview, the OHL served up enough news worth talking about as two more teams jumped into the "compensatory pick" pool and we might be seeing the beginning of CHL-NCAA movement, despite no formal agreement being in place yet.

Soo fan here. We're not in the mood to start the season yet after the disaster that was our OHL draft this year.

Hi this Carl checking in with Sarnia Sting. I am the game night web writer for the team. Mike we met last night when Kitchener was in Sarnia, early in the season. I do not think you guys are idiots making your predictions, but bold in doing so. Love the podcast, I am a regular listener, so good luck with the podcast this year and keep up the excellent work.

I was working in Sarnia for over a year in 2023.
Staying at a motel on London Line (The Golden Mile😊)
I checked out a game at the P.A.S. Arena when the Rangers were in town.
      That's a very nice arena !
My daughters one-time school-mate was playing for the Sting, Marko Sikic.
Marko is from Kitchener as you probably know.

Here's an OHL curveball for you both. It's story time.
I was born and raised in London (Byron boy all the way). Played the majority of my minor hockey in a London Jr. Knights uniform (also West London Hawks - shoutout to my roots). My post secondary education was completed at both Fanshawe College and Western University. Also, I grew up going to games (and skating during an intermission or two) at the London Ice House with my dad - still the best and saltiest arena popcorn in my humble opinion. The multicoloured seats still bring me a laugh or two. A player by the name of Maxim Spiridonov was one of my favourite players alongside Soo-born, Rico Fata. I still can't believe Rico came to my house once or twice for some good old fashioned homemade pasta and sauce from the Soo. Yes, the Soo.
One half of my family is from the OHL's most westerly outpost. Each year at Christmas time (before a Brantford 99ers Gretzky Classic Tournament weekend or some other minor hockey classic) and on a long weekend during the summer months, my family would pile into the family van and take the trek and spend time in the Soo visiting my one side of the family.
Over the years, I'd had the privilege of seeing games a kid in the old Soo Memorial Gardens and now the GFL Memorial Gardens. My most recent trip was a few years ago during the holidays (December 31, 2022) where I took in a thrilling 7-5 Sudbury Wolves win at the GFL. That season, it was perhaps one of the best games I went to between games at The Bud and where I live now... Kitchener and The Aud.
I now enjoy going to The Aud whenever the Knights, Greyhounds, and others enter the cozy confines of The Aud. A classic OHL barn. I had the opportunity to skate on the ice as a minor hockey player and it's amazing to be back at the old barn as an OHL fan. Kitchener lives and breathes the Rangers. They're an enthusiastic bunch and well-versed in their team's history and the present day. I often learn a thing or two about the Rangers' past during a game from someone sitting beside, in front, or behind me. I love it.
I consider myself a lucky guy. A Greyhounds, Knights, and Rangers fan. So this is a check in for the Soo, London, and Kitchener.
Thank you for the incredible content week in and week out. Here's to a great season!
My 2024-25 East: Oshawa, Brampton, Brantford, Ottawa, Barrie, Kingston, North Bay, Peterborough, Sudbury, and Niagara.

Terrific stories. I remember Spiridonov and Fata very well. Rico was almost too fast for his own good.
We’ll call you a Soo representative for our complete roll call

@@ThunderDome74 unreal story. Just love it, and love having another passionate OHL fan with us on the pod! This is what the league is all about. If we ever cross paths in a barn, be sure to say hi!

      Wow, great stories, TD74 !
Rangers season begins on Friday 27th.
I've been a Rangers fan all my life.
I was born 1 yr before the Rangers came into existence. Ya, I'm old. 😅
I too played minor hockey, KMHA, and have great memories from my youth. What a thrill it was for me to play my tyke championship game at The Aud. where all my heroes played.
All the teams were named after Indian tribes. We were the Hurons and we beat the Cree 3 to 2. My best friend Mike Z. scored both goals on me but we came out victorious.
I live for junior hockey and I can sense you feel the same.
I have seasons tickets, Section 12 golds.
Maybe we'll cross paths ? I'll buy you a wobbly and we can talk hockey.
Enjoy another year of exciting OHL hockey and of course....
      GO RANGERS ! 🏒🙂👍

it's hardly no risk. the hounds were counting on a big draft to build around their strong '07 class and they bombed.
and the compensatory package is necessary to combat the Londons of the league from getting as many elite players like Domi that refuse to report anywhere else.
