เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 11 มิ.ย. 2008
Veteran broadcaster Mike Farwell brings you his unique perspective on the Ontario Hockey League. From Ottawa to Windsor, and from the Soo to Erie, the OHL Podcast has something for every junior hockey fan, bringing you the best stories from the players you cheered...and jeered. Issues and insights. Stories and sarcasm. From the fans to the front office, The OHL Podcast is your online scrapbook for one of the greatest leagues in the world.
A Menno-Knight dilemma -- Fridays With Farwell
London Knights overager Landon Sim is not a first time offender and, arguably, he's earned his previous penalties. But a suspension for calling an opposing player a Mennonite? I'm not sure even a Mennonite would be offended. The Ontario Hockey League is, though, and it has brought the hammer down on Sim again. The punishment doesn't seem to fit the crime, but that's not the point. The point is that the OHL has an important reputation to protect.

A deep dive into the NCAA/CHL ruling, and searching for the Steelheads in Brampton
มุมมอง 48612 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
The long overdue NCAA ruling that allows players to maintain academic eligibility even if they play a single game in the CHL will change the hockey landscape in North America? In how many ways? So many already, and some we probably haven't even figured out yet. Farwell and Dan do a deep dive into the impacts of the rule change with a look at who benefits and who might get hurt. NCAA decision dramatically alters the junior hockey landscape -- Fridays With Farwell
มุมมอง 55221 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
A long overdue ruling by the NCAA means players who compete in the CHL maintain their NCAA eligibility. Obviously, this will make it more likely that players will migrate from one league to the other. But will one league see greater net migration than the other? What about other leagues like the USHL or BCHL? What about Canadian university hockey programs? The truth is, there will be impacts ac...
Wolves and Musty make nice, Storm struggling, and the USHL's last legs
มุมมอง 609วันที่ผ่านมา
It appears as though the Sudbury Wolves and Quentin Musty have mended fences, which also now means two NHL first-rounders could be on their way to new OHL teams. Farwell and Dan also look inside some ugly numbers for the Guelph Storm and gaze into a crystal ball that seems increasingly cloudy for the USHL. The Jett Luchanko trade window is open -- Fridays With Farwell
มุมมอง 37714 วันที่ผ่านมา
The Guelph Storm got a much-needed boost last week with the return of Jett Luchanko. But no sooner did he land back in Storm City than reports surfaced that he would almost surely be traded. That raises a couple of questions. What's a player like Luchanko worth in the OHL market today? And should we allow a player to be traded in November, or should we consider limiting the times of the year th...
Expanding on expansion, Parekh's peskiness, and 500 for fighting

If the reports are true (and there's no reason to doubt them), a couple of USHL teams were in pretty serious talks to defect for the Ontario Hockey League. Farwell and Dan have similar ideas as to why the conversations were even entertained, and then they have a debate of their own about Zayne Parekh finishing a hit in the Soo. Plus, a couple of OAs find new homes, what happens when you exceed ...
OHL expansion is sounding more probable than merely possible -- Fridays With Farwell
มุมมอง 92221 วันที่ผ่านมา
Two USHL teams reportedly expressed interest in joining the OHL and as the hockey landscape starts to shift, you've got to think OHL expansion is inevitable, don't you? I've found the four markets that could fit seamlessly into a 24-team league and I've even realigned the divisions to make it a plug-and-play idea.

Plus, another historic sexual assault allegation against a group of OHL players, a new NHL collective bar...
Reforming hockey culture is a team effort -- Fridays With Farwell
มุมมอง 18028 วันที่ผ่านมา
Another black eye for junior hockey this week as reports surface of another alleged group sex assault. The league immediately seems to be taking this seriously, and that's a good sign. We need to follow that lead and demand more from the game we love, and the people who play it.

Yes, but the St. Catharines canines have us believing and we'll tell you why we like them ... and why we're still worried. Still in the East, Barrie wants to make sure you know they're still in the mix as they deal for a 100 point man from North Bay. That creates an overage crunch...

I can't believe this crap is getting into hockey. That's horrible. IT'S HOCKEY.
Rangers are gonna bring the Heat and Can the bees.. 👍🥫🐝
The league certainly has changed over the generations. Rabbit ears everywhere. I can't imagine the trauma these kids are going to endure with the verbal abuse they're going to receive at the professional level. They'll need therapy.
weird al yankovic-'amish paradise' said 'memonite' in the song. cancel him now.
The drama and plight of the white man continues 😂😂 shut the f up
Well, you can’t do that and as a hockey player in the OHL, you should be setting an example for two young kids in the crowd that are watching you sing you and watching you on TV because the players in this league are supposed to be the next generation of hockey superstars, so he can’t be doing that when he is supposed to be setting an example
Wow. We’ve become so woke. I get it. There are some words/phrases we shouldn’t say. Common sense tells us that, but where does it stop? The league has clamped down and rightfully so, on some checking - nobody wants to see anyone hurt (well, maybe some) but my goodness, pretty soon instead of a hockey game we’ll be watching figure skating, but this time with mouthpieces and sponge sticks. There are two words that psychologists use that may come into play here - cognitve dissonance. It simply means that a person second guesses himself prior to an action. Should I or should I not? Should I say, 'he's a he' 'she's a she.' OR, in the case of Don Cherry, "those people." Which of course the Woke segment of our culture hopped on and had him fired. Even some of our fellow citizens in the UK are nearing the banning of silent prayer near abortion clinics. My-my. We'll I've shown my hand and knowing the moderators of this forum this IS a safe place to air ones concerns. Fore me, it’s time to pull back the reigns, let them play with what the league has enacted, see how that goes for a while and then tweak, if need be.
Totally agree, Mike. Speaking as Mennonite myself. - turned Baptist. ;) Go Rangers.
Does it matter exactly what he said if he's saying it to someone in a derogetory way? He has a history of calling people names and what not so seems fair to me to teach someone a lesson. He propably has been calling people weird things to try and get away with it but the subtext of what he's calling them is probably worse than what he's actually saying....
There is no need for a suspension and there is no need for a chat with the league. This is non-issue being made an issue to send some sort of irrelevant message.
Keep in mind, players need to be university-level Students to go to the NCAA. Schools are asking for transcripts first. This needs to be emphasized first in all discussions about the option. Not all CHLers are university-level inclined students.
the chl guys/commits should lose their 4 year draft/sign window now. should get two year draft/sign window like chl guys do.
The new NHL CBA will be very important to this whole discussion. Maybe split the difference and both get 3 years.
@@wwcgf-danmeagher3300 yep. it needs to even out in exchange for college eligibility.
@@wwcgf-danmeagher330090% of the NCAA are men age 21-26. 90% of CHL are teenagers 16-19. Great discussion gentlemen.
Calem Mangone of the Saginaw Spirit just announced today that he is committing to Lake Superior State University for the 2025-26 season.
Backing the Brampton steelheads 🐟👍
Thank you so much for mentioning my Kingston frontenacs team.. we playing well I believe the Turning Point of the season was the road trip we had as Super Fan when those 3 ot losses October 17- going to otters and Brantford and Niagara.. we cleaned up our 3th periods as well our top dman #41 Quinton Burns st. Louis Prospect is not taken as many penalize right now
Thanks for listening. I wanted to shout out Quinton as well. Quietly becoming a top-5 D man in the league.
If you come back to The Arena at TD Place, see if your broadcast booth will be in the suites over the ice, since they been allowing the TSN1200 and Rogers TV commentators upstairs
Looking forward to coming back in February! A new location in Ottawa would be rather nice!
@ I think they are moved the commentary because of the world juniors next month, I don’t even know if they will keep it like the current set up by February
When I was watching that game, I could hear in my head your upcoming rightful rant about sticks lol. But as a Spirit fan I was ok with that one haha.
I had no clue it was like that
it keeps you on your toes!
a player could lose ncaa eligibility by just participating in an ohl practice or being at a practice. This is equivalent to ncaa portal tule in college b ball football where players can transfer at anytime even at halftime of a game if they so choose. Say bye bye to ohl overage rule and ranger goaile j parsons who already jumped ship and to ushl . And hello to musk./y'town joining ohl.
Big win for CHL. Expect influx of Top end US players on way to OHL at age 16. Great opportunity to eliminate the 3 Overage 20 yr olds and add 3 more 16 yr olds.
With Jackson Paraons just committing to the NCAA Clarkson Golden Knights, it makes me question the OJHL and their ability to remain an option for players looking to play NCAA hockey. To this point it's been predominantly a league used for players looking to move on to the US College hockey route.
Imagine seeing a Clarkson commit somewhere in the USHL seeing this news. Bummer for them.
Spot on
Well said!
I don't know why, but I have a funny feeling Belleville will (again) lose a franchise to Hamilton. I can see the Belleville Senators moving to Hamilton and Belleville getting an expansion OHL franchise
I agree they should pick up stuff off the ice or are they waiting for someone to get seriously hurt. It could easily be like people getting killed at train crossings or intersections before they put up warning lights or stop lights.
So could the ushl collapse and what happens to their teams? could more than muskegon and youngstown join ohl?
what about Kingston Frontenacs the big 3 in 3 as super fan I'm still considered about give up 3 or more goals a game we have Ottawa 2 more times in next 2 weeks Oshawa on firday night and brampton on Saturday I'm looking for big enforcer our 3 and 4 lines Norlan butter has Impressed me for 16 old to come to and 60 % Normal shift is amazing. As well he is so close getting his first goal of his OHL career as im worried about our Third periods
I agree
I’ve cheered for the leafs, my whole life I’ll cheer for them till the day I die
Well, they should pick it up. If they can you know if there’s time away from them playing and stuff like that they should pick it up just my opinion if they can like I said just my Pinyan.
You should get from the booth with Mike on the podcast
love that guy!
I agree as well
so jett joins musty as tdl bait.
Fly the Jett to Peterborough 😅
In keeping with the Halloween theme, what kind of car does a ghost drive ? A Mali-BOO !! 👻
And....the Rangers are still not on the CHL Top 10 list ??🤔 Won their 7th straight last night vs. Sarnia.
Linda Blair is a nice looking lady. 😍 A real....head turner. 👹
Muskegon is a natural fit with old rivals Flint and Saginaw. There's been minor pro or junior in Muskegon for around 65 connective years. Sarnia and Windsor aren't too far, Soo is only 5 hours away. Thunder Bay was in the CoHL/UHL with Muskegon, Saginaw, and Flint. They were a fierce rival for Muskegon. Travel was difficult and attendance wasn't great, they ended up moving to Rockford despite having some amazing talent and very physical play. I think it's like 12, 13 hours on bus from Muskegon.
i remember saginaw was a 13 hr. trip to th. bay. thunder cats were a Cohl power for a few years. sag. wheels played them one playoff.
thunder bay should join whl being closer to whl western most team in brandon then closest ohl team in the soo. and lake placid-NO. Don't need a cushy tourist driven town in ohl. That would be like az. thinking they had actual fans not snowbird fans who only come to see their favorite teams. ohl wants ny state wait till syracuse or some ahl team leaves then go there where they have a fan base.
Love the new background and graphics, fellas!
for Me it the Stay Puff Marsh Mellow Man I am a huge fan of the first Classic Ghost Buster's
Wasn't sure what we classify as horror. But also that girl who climbs out of the TV in "The Ring?" No thanks!
Markham ON ?????
I could get behind that idea
yes-muskegon would be a great add to ohl with their ihl rivalry days with saginaw, flint. A three team mi. rivalry with short trips across mi. to play each other. Also add port huron and k'zoo. Add an old ihl division to ohl. BTW jacks had 750 for ushl opener. They may need a better brand of hockey plus some natural mi. rivals.
@stevenbauer4799 The 750 number you're citing is from the USHL showcase in Pennsylvania in September where they were designated the "home team". The actual home opener was last night, attendance was 2218. That being said, attendance isn't close to what it used to be when it was minor pro hockey, there's a lot of room for improvement.
@@DarbySagalaok i thought that was rather low figure yet only number i could find. still attendance remains a problem that ohl could solve.
Muskegon has deep roots in rivalries with Flint and Saginaw dating way back to the IHL days. It would instantly benefit all 3 markets and it's only 5 hours to the Soo. Muskegon has never taken to the USHL, though. It was seen by many as a massive downgrade from 50 consecutive sessions of minor pro hockey. It was probably also at least in part to having no old rivals like Flint, Saginaw, Kalamazoo, or Port Huron. I think with the old rivalries rekindled, combined with the perception of the OHL being better hockey, you would see increased attendance. Consider this - back in the CoHL/UHL days, Muskegon was much more stable than Saginaw, and outdrew Flint most seasons as well. Chatham was in the old Colonial League as well, but couldn't muster even 2000 a game, and team ended up moving to Saginaw. It's been 30 years though, so I'm sure lots has changed in Chatham since then.
saginaw in the uhl/cohl was a joke. bad out of town owners, horrible losing teams on the ice owned by flint owners at one time before last owners from ohio pulled sag out halfway thru their last season saying saginaw could not support hockey. 25 years later and 22 years in ohl and '24 memorial cup champs says the joke is on them now. saginaw supports ohl. we enjoy flint rivalry when flint joined ohl in '15. muskegon would enjoy ohl hockey.
There's been talk about Hamilton coming back to the AHL so move the B-Sens there and bring Belleville to the OHL.
I will support any idea that gets London out of Kitcheners division! lol
Get Timmins in there. More Northern teams!
Sault Ste. Marie already has the longest travel in the league and you want to make it far, far worse? You add Chatham to the existing West Division. That's the only way this works. London can go in the South Division and one of your other 6 teams goes in the North.
@@grantrobinson8179 nothing is perfect...
@@grantrobinson8179 Muskegon is a shorter trip than Soo for Saginaw, Flint, Windsor and Sarnia. Youngstown is half way (SE of Cleveland) between Erie and Windsor.
@@TheOHLPodcast That's true, but it's unreasonable to have one team have double the travel distance of any other team when you could simply have them in the West and spread that extra travel across several different teams. A city like Guelph is far, far closer to the rest of the teams in the proposed North Division.
I would hope Cornwall gets accepted for expansion, that would create a natural rivalry with Ottawa 67s and Kingston Frontenacs, maybe they can move Brantford out of the East Division and move Cornwall into that division
I love those divions
I'm here for Expansion! I'd love to see the Lumberjacks in the OHL. Saginaw used to play them all the time in other leagues. It'll be like old times with Saginaw, Muskegon, and little brother Flint. Lol
