  • Daffodil season is drawing to a close which means harvesting and preserving the leaves and stalks for weaving projects! It's become a family affair to collect the leaves so that I can dry them and create cordage and basketry projects.
Join me as I gather, dry and store these leaves. I decided to incorporate the cordage in a fun new project that I'm calling my gardening hat. I was inspired by my aunt's fun sunhat, Huckleberry Finn and the fact that I intend to spend many hours enjoying the garden this year. Enjoy this relaxing weaving project as I share the steps to creating my first woven hat!
The techniques I used on this woven hat come from basket weaving techniques. What I wear as a hat could just as well be upside down and used as a basket. It's really fun realizing all the things you can make with simple techniques and creativity.

This one sure went by fast. I would love to buy a pattern should you ever have time to make one up, or do a step by step video with particulars.
You are always inspiring. Thank you! ~ CN

Could this be done with just sisal twine or palm leaves? I have a bunch left over from palm Sunday so I was wondering what I can make with that.

Sure, I encourage you to experiment. You can use my hat as an inspiration for the basic structure. I would love to see a photo when you're done! You can send it to brittany@textileindie.com or tag us on IG or FB @textileindie.
