Plenty would disagree. Wonderful diversity is part of the reason Victoria is up the c***hole at the moment. Just look at the Abc 's own data on hotspots by post code 🤷♀️
$1.6 trillion dollars with an annual migrant intake of 190k over 30 years is $23k per person per year. That's less than half of our current annual GDP per capita. From this video, I don't know how the report got to "10% more than current residents" while coming to that conclusion about GDP. Did they project that we're going to get more than 50% poorer?
A very Neo-Liberal approach to immigration. They make the economy money therefore immigration good. Personally they should of gone into more detail on the social impacts.
They are arguing the point to Neo-Liberals in the only terms they understand - ie money Nice bait and switch into identity politics to avoid the inherent class exploitation
Some of the social impacts of immigration are that prejudices can get highlighted when living within a multicultural society and then instead of acknowledging this the messenger is shot and immigrants are blamed.
It takes time for people to let go of deeply emotionally ingrained prejudices.Especially the older generation who often had it beaten into them as violence was considered a 'healthy and productive' form of education. OF course we now know that to be insane but there are still people lingering with that mentality and not just in the older generation but progeny who have been conditioned and raised by prejudiced mindsets.
GDP is a poor way to measure a country and its prosperity.. But I admire the bravery of a migrant themed show with a comment section! :) The ABC should do a sitcom about the life of Rupert Murdoch... he can't really try any harder to get you defunded and privatized!
I get it, you hate Australia, and Australia hates Australia, why do they make it so hard for us to leave, not many countries give us a shot to move to theirs, maybe some reciprocation is in order, and before you say you can do so much worse, I also have experienced so much better than here
Speaking of migration, I'm curious as to where Luke got his American sounding Rs from. Not merely a rhotic R, but an American sounding one. He could have lived in America for a while, have an American parent, picked it up from someone he knew as a kid, or picked up from sources unknown. Some people have said I sound British or American, even though my closest immigrant relative is probably a great grandparent, and I've never left the country.
Welfare wouldnt have to exist if capitalism didn't thrive on a natural level of unemployment/poverty/exploitation. If there are less jobs than workers it keeps wages down creating more profit for capitalists. People on welfare aren't living it up it was not even enough to survive on being below poverty levels. Until the recent and temporary increases people could often not afford the essentials, food, rent etc. Now that they can all that money just flows back into the hands of landlords, business etc. As for blaming immigrants lol Nothing makes a capitalist happier than hearing some reactionary blaming immigrants instead of rightly blaming capitalists for exploiting both the immigrants and the local workers. Its classic aristotle politics where you incite conflict between the slaves so that they fight each other instead of those oppressing them. Australia was built by immigrants and still is. Immigrants often work the hardest and least paid jobs in Australia. Rich land owning farmers who receive large amounts of welfare from the government exploit immigrants and backpackers to do all the actual work for them at poverty level wages. Anyone who is not indigenous to Australia is an immigrant and the first 'immigrants' colonised Australia. Murdering, raping and enslaving the indigenous people, forcing them into the colonisers culture and destroying their indigenous culture.
@@symbolsarenotreality4595 Additionally, statistically speaking immigrants are more likely to start their own small business than native born residents anyway - which is another reason why it is beneficial to the wealthy to make people prejudiced against them. Literally the only way that immigrants can be "harmful" economically speaking is if government is so poorly regulating the market that achieving a living wage is already difficult and competitive - which would require labour laws to already be exploitative and unjust.
^ classic case of projection Sky news is the home of bias, prejudice, sophism, propraganda etc ABC is pretty solid for domestic issues, but it sings the same tune as every other news channel when it comes to supporting capitalism and demonising any alternatives, especially the one that works. China has forgiven the debt of 77 developing nations and raised hundreds of millions of people out of poverty while the USA and its allies have invaded nation after nation with lie after lie all for profit, power and resource control.
Easily my favourite economist in the world right now! 🙂

Could it be an additional 23k on top of current per capita?

Did you notice what this segments called? At all?
@@symbolsarenotreality4595 I'm sorry your not making much sense? Are you rebuking my comment or backing it up?
A balanced migration makes sense.
Was this just a way to flex you beer mugs

Its probably from watching a lot of american TV and hearing a lot of american singers
😂
Hey ABC... Go fund yourself.
How many go on the welfare?
Predicted response to any criticism of the above question 'I was just innocently asking, there was no agenda behind my loaded question'
All of them
