This series shows the greatness of history and proof of A.J.P. Taylor's dictum that nothing is inevitable in history until it happens. Bravo gentlemen.
The Battle of Mons and the heroic rearguard action of the BEF is given scant regard here. Without the BEF contribution, a replay of 1870 was the most likely outcome. Still a great episode. Thankyou to Times Radio and James for this wonderful initiative.
Thank you for not only answering the question about the WW1 Christmas Truce; but, the WHAT IFS about different potential outcomes. Wasn't there a very localized Christmas Truce during WW2 mainly involving one town only?
@@gordm3527 Try it. Find a video of his with a Wiki page and you'll notice the distinct similarities between the text & pictures on the page & his video.
@gordm indeed, he also invents stuff that he can't back up and when confronted he just goes silent, instead of naming sources. Mark Felton is the history channel of youtube
Thanks for another wonderful episode. It was good have a bit more disagreement as it further stimulates thinking. Any plans to do shows or more recent conflicts such as the Iraq wars?
RAdm Chris Parry really knows his onions... I love listening to his insights and perspectives, perhaps because they resonate well with my own 'what if?' conclusions, and view of the actual unaltered histories... but I'm flattering myself with such a comparison.
O Tannenbaum, O Tannenbaum, wie treu sind deine Blätter. Du grünst nicht nur zur Sommerzeit, Nein auch im Winter, wenn es schneit. O Tannenbaum O Tannenbaum, wie treu sind deine Blätter.
But, he is a bad historian that fills gaps in his stories with stuff he can't name a single source and the rest is more or less just wiki. He is not a good historian. Not even a bad one, really he's just a story teller with wikipedia
What if the French and British shortened the line 1914 and the British landed near Hamburg, Germany after the sinking of the German fleet? (ie a conclusive Battle of Jutland)
Canada would still eventually break away I think, they were a dominion for 50 years, already mostly self governing....i think it would take a bit longer but Canada would still seperate.
I really appreciate your efforts! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
Wonderful show. Great moderator and even better contributors!

This is such a brilliant channel concept.
This is one of the best historical videos on TH-cam. You put a lot of effort into editing the video. We are all very grateful to you.🎉
What a nice Christmas gift! Thank you
You’ve got Drach in the fold. Love to see you add Mark Felton as a guest. Absolutely love his stuff!
Mark picks out interesting & unusual stories but he tends to just read the Wikipedia page with some very minor changes.
@@paulwood6729 Felton has over 2 million subscribers! Drach has 500,000. I don’t think Mark Felton could reach that level reading Wikipedia pages.

Mark Felton is a hack who repeats, as fact, urban legends.
Fascinating.
Thank you, sincerely.
Amazing as always

Fantastic video and an excellent panel as always.

Mark Felton as a guest would go so hard. You would have to play his intro music though when you introduce him

Schlieffen was an attaché in Washington when RE Lee made his hook around the Potomac fortifications...
Schwarzkopf made it work in Desert Storm.

On a cold winter day . . .
The Christmas truce dropped out of the discussion, but it was still interesting. Thanks.
The Christmas truce, of course. What an inspired choice for yiur special edition. P.S. get well soon Chris, sounds like you have a bit of a cold.
Thank you. Over it now - not nice. Happy New Year.
The heartless politicians wouldn't have that. Get back in the trenches.
Myth, legend or reality, it really doesn’t matter….. Merry Christmas to all.
Monarchy isn't an ideology. Monarchists dont have the semi religious drive to maintain other monarchies like you get with certain political fanatics.
No more brothers wars
We in Serbia would be best off with peace in winter 1914

A better POD is Fisher's Baltic plan, which Churchill rejected.
Great podcast but the maps need to be better

Has Canada separated from Britain? Charles III of England is still king of Canada. Pity.

Thank you. Over it. Happy New Year.
The peace they describe would radicalize the French, and probably lead to the rise of a French military revival .
