honestly its kind of boring when people use that as an excuse as to why they dont play builds, i can see why you dont wanna play builds, but dont complain about not being able to improve at the game
Storm surge single handedly ruined ended my comp career. When we had trio fncs; the time the map was flooded. I would consistently place top 10 in the leaderboards week after week until the set lobby games. The set lobby environments are a completely different game. I never could manage storm surge while also dealing with storm circles. Looking back we only did well in games where we fought a team first circle. I don't play the game anymore but this popped up into my recommended and reminded of all the good times with those guys. W Vid
Here is a simlified version of how storm surge work: Its like a leaderboard and when you deal damage you climb that leaderboard, the damage counter tells you how much more damage you need to do to catch up to the place on the leaderboard you need to be at 👍
Storm surge definitely does exist in normal games I played a game where I sat in storm for as long as possible and once the final zone went to close it popped up
*Ahem* Storm Surge: The longer you are in the storm, the more "Storm Sickness" you can contract Storm Sickness: An effect that makes you take more damage per tick in storm damage Storm Surge Lightning: Whoever is in "Last Place" based off the scoreboard, will have lightning jutt out at them and start giving them Storm Surge and Storm Sickness all at once. (This only happens after too many people are alive for too long) Longer you are in contact with the storm = the more damage the storm deals to you per second. If there is too many people alive at once, the worst performing ones will start loosing health.
I have experienced this 5 times in my 5 years playing the game and it was way back when I tried to do competitive with friends. 60 people alive towards the end of the game is chaos and stressful. I never died to it but I had to react really quickly to it
For trading storm surge, I think a good idea would be if someone would deal over a certain amount of damage to a player or team, they wouldn't get as much storm surge points to get out of storm surge.(idk how else to phrase it). There damage would be normal, they just wouldn't get as much points to get out of storm surge range.
the server replicating actions to every player's screen happens a set number of times per second unaffected by number of actions taken, its just that the number of changes being sent is higher
good thing that storm surge is not a thing in zero build cause in it survival is most important, i had a lot of instances when i was playing carefully and reached last 10
Great video as always but at 3:27 is a mistake. The tournament wasn't like the other ones you were speaking about. The Players actually were playing all different public matches (which also is shown at the top). So 20 Elims was actually realistic, for example Ghost Kamo hit it back in the day.
@@ReisshubI’ve seen this happen in customs yes everyone is considered below surge and takes damage. best examples of this are 50v50 customs or custom ruleset games such as pickaxe only
@@racim5609yes assuming that every single player has dealt zero damage, everyone will be considered “1 Below”. However, people usually end up pickaxing each other for surge. It is technically possible to out heal surge, however it will cost at least two or three slots of heals.
I hate storm surge. It is a bad way to deal with the problem, it limits the players to fewer strats and usually ends up causing most players to box up and shoot from a distance, which is boring and annoying for both teams. The fun parts in fortnite are close-range fights and endgame, and storm surge does not actually encourage that. Epic should keep the elimination points very low (or maybe even none) but make it that dealing damage and killing players heavily improves your chances of surviving longer, to the point where it is near impossible to win in a good lobby without being aggressive. For example, damage and eliminations give u some sort of currency, which allow u to buy in-match upgrades that can't be to achieved otherwise. Those upgrades can be higher amount of max mats, more inventory slots, movement abilities, constant slurp effect, the options are endless (kinda like bedwars/eggwars in minecraft, where being aggressive allows u to get materials for upgrades). This can take fortnite (both casual and comp) to the next level. They have already started trending in that directions with mid-game objects which are really cool, but its not enough.
I wish Reiss pumped out more vids cos i have literally watched them all His shotgun evolution video is my favourite, hopefully he does with one with assault rifles or maybe heals
They should change the storm surge threshold from requiring a certain amount of damage to requiring a certain amount of kills. That way winning the game is still incentivized, but players also feel the need to actually fight other players and get kills (rather than just sitting in a base and trading damage)
hidden tech but when I'm fighting I'm able to predict when a 3rd party is about to happen due to my frames dropping. very subtle but I have noticed it and started slowing down fights.
2:50 isn't correct. Assuming all players are equal, it is easier to get 3 kills than place top 10. 10/100 = 10% of getting top 10. 1/2 * 1/2 *1/2 = 1/8 = 12.5% of getting 3 kills.
It doesn't require a complex solution. It requires reasons to fight, which the game has always lacked. Instead of the crazy external things epic opted for they could just provide these through gameplay. Because as we see kills are not required, just damage. A grey AR was not much worse than a blue AR (back when I played, ending season 7) so there was very little reason reason to risk ones life to get one. However if there were only grey items on the map (and perhaps no ARs) and then there were coordinated drops/spawns around that map, which were clearly telegraphed ahead of time to allow players to get into position for SCARs or hell, back then, pump shotguns.. players may be more inclined to take risks. This already happened with loot llamas and balloon drops (I don't think these were telegraphed though), and even though those items provided better weapons, they were still not worth risking over a basic grey AR. Up until the SMG apocalypse this route could have been taken. The game was simpler, players generally wanted two pumps, an AR and either sniper + heal or 2*heal. If none of these weapons were available from the world, or were available at such a low drop rate that it was not reliable to farm for, then drops suddenly become much more important. >but grey weapons to start would be boring! Well yes, but its not like the players were using their good weapons anyway, were they? Instead of going down the route of providing player interaction drivers they went this convoluted route. It would provide early game fights with grey vs grey that slowly transitions into grey vs better and finally better vs better. If a team or player misses the first set of drops the second set could potentially be contested as well (if we pretend one weapon comes from each spawn). After that things become more risky and I guess the players that miss out would be trying to avoid combat, but at that point they become freeish kills to the players/teams that secured better weapons. If better items were available at a very low rate from the world then this team that has failed to obtain some still have the option to try to farm everything for that very low % chance of getting a weapon. This is risky as they will need to move around more, cover more ground and check more chests etc. One way to think of this is like the pistol rounds in CS. There is another piece to this puzzle that is entirely missing from the video. Materials. Fighting early means you run the risk of having less mats later in the game when they are more needed. Because the material limit is quite high and takes a while to farm, players need to hoard their mats until late game. Even with the current implementation players are not incentivised to kill the other players, simply shoot them a bit to stay out of the storm surge group. This is because taking fights spends your mats, which become harder and harder to recover as the game progresses. Using half your mats to actually kill people in a later circle is setting you up to not perform as well late game. Epic did address this, however with the gathering speed buff and material nerf may not have been enough to combat the potential losses from taking a full blown fight for very little reason. The games economy has been broken since the beginning really.
