I never got the chance to pick it up, once you kill the zombie that backpack disappears. I don't know if it's a bug or the item itself does not exist in the game.
I'm planning on doing this, but after I build stats on a character and pile up some quality spears with high maintenance skill. Currently on my 2nd week in Rosewood. Going to clear the whole town, including the prison. Then when I have a pile of guns, ammo, spears and food, I'm going to declare war.
The door is locked I can't open it without a key even from the inside, those type of doors have a padlock unlike the others. Tent takes 6 tiles to place and if I remember correctly it only gives you poor comfort, combine it with sleeping bag I don't think you can go over Average comfort. Armchair is too good, takes one tile, has average comfort and you can place a pillow on it to increase comfort.

You can charge the vehicle battery by letting the car run while you kill Zeds. Starting the vehicle uses the battery up.
Ain't nothin a molotov, police car and shotgun shells can't solve.

um...you forgot one thing, electricity cut off in 20-30 days and flash lights are so bad with the darkness update.

You should build a low fence near the entrance to cheese em.
Believe me fences will get you killed eventually when fighting multiple zombies.

Why don't use the door instead of the window?
Why don't make a tent if you have the sleeping bag?
