I would recommend making tin land mines for clearing POIs. They are relatively cheap and are good for throwing down in a door way as you fall back. Might save you some ammo too.

Just a simple hatch faced in the right orientation in a doorway and you could melee and keep the hatch repaired. Save ammo for hoard nights.

@@chirpy8463 that's my backup while clearing POIs, too. Bow ist best in sneak mode, ammo should be saved up for horde night as you say. At higher stages I carry a machinegun to defend against bears.
