- Before their was X-Factor their was Pop Idol, before their was Pop Idol their was Popstars the rivals, before their was Pop Idol the rivals their was Popstars.
Popstars was a UK talent show series that was broadcast on ITV in early 2001. It was the first UK series of the international Popstars franchise, and was billed as a documentary on the formation of a modern pop group. The series began with audition rounds of aspiring singers (good and bad) performing songs before a panel of judges. The best performers were selected to come to London for further rounds of auditions. Over the weeks, the judges eliminated various singers from the auditions until just a few singers were left in contention. In the final weeks, five contestants were chosen by the judges to form the new pop group Hear'Say. The programme then showed the group recording and promoting their first single, documenting their first ventures into the music industry.
On a personal note I remember seeing the notorious Darius in Fabric Nightclub after this aired. I was drunk and went up to him and told him he was shit. I'm nice like that
I miss this concept before Simon Cowell got his hands on it.

yeah i heard that crackle too but people clapped for her.. i'm like what the actual f? ... Claire (big girl) in my opinion was better than the majority of them.. weight wouldn't have been an issue since the life of a popstar is constant .. she woulda lost that weight in no time at all.
They don't actually want super strong soloists, because they won't blend as well. Also, sadly, they want people who KNOW they aren't strong soloists, because those people are easier to push to exhaustion.

This was for Hear'Say the first "Blended" Band of Men & Women. I guess that after Steps made it not to mention S Club 7 they could do it with them. This was The Fourth Incarnation before Girls Aloud & One True Voice.
Sadly enough with the exception of Girls Aloud as far as I know none of them made it
@@laminage Hear'Say was huge for awhile until the band members started disputing over things.. also Steps DEFINITELY made their mark and they had a reunion not too long ago.. just didn't pick up traction .. but as far as Hear'Say goes one of their main vocalist has became an actress so.. i guess she's kinda made it in her own way?
