      He also says "Louisiana". HAHAHA

    • @eatonjask
      @eatonjask 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@klfjoat City and state names generally don't change when you change languages... Oslo is 'Oslo'. Boston is Boston. Utah is Utah. Halifax is Halifax.
      Though Dublin does change to Baile Atha Cliath, but that's because Dublin isn't the original name!

    • @klfjoat
      @klfjoat 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eatonjask But they do change, and pretty often. And I'm not just talking about simple translations, like "United States" becoming "Etats-Unis" in French.
      I'm talking about Bourgogne = Burgundy; Munchen = Munich; Deutschland = Germany. I could go on and on and on.
      There even exist terms for the difference: endonym and exonym.
      Plus, even when you may be using a latin script in a latin-derived language, sometimes it is pronounced differently because of the different phonemes used by the local language.
      So yeah, when I'm hearing a language where I cannot recognize the phonemes, with a bad transliteration into a latin script ("samhain"), hearing MY OWN city and state name as clear as a bell is a bit of a rush. :-)

    • @eatonjask
      @eatonjask 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@klfjoat There are some limited exceptions, as you note - though you're confusing country names, which do change from language to language, and city and state names, which only change if there's an historical reason to - and neither Baton Rouge or Louisiana are old enough to have the 'Munich'='Munchen' historical trick going for them. I note that the Gaelic version of Baton Rouge has a different spelling, to make the phonemes work to produce the correct sound. 'Baton' became 'Bhaton'.
      It is a rush when someone far away knows of your own local town, I agree.

    I love this! I'm American, this is one of my favorite country songs. I love that it's jaunty like a sea chanty -- it blows my mind that the south and the UK have so many linguistic and cultural overlaps b/c of the UK immigration to the American south. My grandma was born in 1914 in rural Georgia and she used "british" slang.
    I LOVE what you've done with the song, and your Irish dancing. This is the first thing I'd want to do if I ever came to Ireland.

    That is fantastic! I am of Irish descent (I know y'all hate it when us Americans say "I'm Irish!") But I am so proud to have my ancestors come from such a lovely place with a beautiful and unique language.
    I have half a mind to try to learn to speak Irish myself, I just don't know if I would be able to get it. It would be a very cool thing to do though and to honor my grandparents who came here to start a new life.

    Wow this is an amazing Irish version of Callin' Baton Rouge! Although it's a team effort from all of those great musicians I'd particularly like to focus on the singer in this video he has a perfect voice for country music! Although I don't understand Irish his incredible voice was enough for me to sincerely enjoy the whole production. He very much reminds me of a young Garth Brooks and for sure the American girls over here absolutely love this young Irish guy!! I had the pleasure of working closely with Garth Brooks when he was just a young boy with a guitar in Oklahoma but sadly I lost contact with him as he rose to massive fame but this young Irish guy has it all to be successful and from an American veteran like me to an incredibly talented young Irish boy like him I would say to him keep following your dream because you deserve fame and America loves you!!!

      In san oíche tá sí i mo bhrionglóidí
      Ach táim as baile tá mé in ísle brí

      Ó fan liom go fóill
      Ní bheidh sé i bhfad anois

      The breadth of beauty I'll never see again
      Oh, Baton Rouge!
      Early in the morning I'm on my way
      In the night she's in my dreams
      but I'm at hone feeling low
      without my girl, heartbreak comes
      Oh, Baton Rouge!
      Chorus
      A worker for hire here and there
      Send my love to Baton Rouge
      Squeezing you for life is short
      Talking to my girl ,Hell,there's nothing better!
      Oh Samantha my darling
      Oh, stay with me still
      It'll not be long now
      until I'm with you forever
      but,until then
      Remember me my heart's treasure

    • @dfcarolan
      @dfcarolan 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Ar aghaidh linn leis an spraoi a choinnéail beo!!" It is not a literal translation but I hope it captures the meaning. "Continuons à garder le plaisir vivant" is a fairly literal translation of the Irish I use here. The meaning of "an spraoi" is the fun. It can be replaced by "an chraic" or the crack in English which though less formal is more widely used in Ireland both in English and Irish to convey the general idea of fun or a good time in convivial settings. Many Americans get a confused when they hear Irish people talking about "having great crack " or the "crack was mighty". Crack is a narcotic substance in the USA and involves a more deadly type of "fun" that far from the generally life-enhancing meaning this word has in Ireland.
      For further information and pronunciation, check out:
      www.focloir.ie/ga/dictionary/ei/crack
      Go to meaning 9.

    This is one of my favorite country songs and you guys did a great job!
    Honestly, I think it's better than Garth Brooks' version.

    This is so great. Too bad I didn't know about it much sooner., especially after seeing Garth two weeks ago.

    Just for fun, I would love to hear a cover of "The Battle of New Orleans". My dad used to play it on the guitar.

    Great job with the song, you have a very nice voice. My Irish wife and I met at LSU in Baton Rouge. Who produced this video? Super job! I counted 89 transitions with superb timing. "Maith thú"

      Hi Mcpjn
      This music is produced by an Irish speaking college in Galaway in a gaeltacht in the west of Ireland during the summer when the children go home for their holidays the college runs a summer camp for children from all over Ireland whose parents want them to improve their Irish some years ago the decided to teach Irish through music so they started translating songs mostly in English to Irish the children sing them and the college post them on you tube their logo tg lurgen is in the bottom right hand corner so far they have done about 60 different songs sadly their was no summer camps anywhere in Ireland this year because of the pandemic hopefully the world will be back to normal before long hope this helps you
