One of the reasons Bamboo doesn't burn easily is it naturally has a high level is silica in it - aka glass. Their leaves are 70% silica. If you burn a section of bamboo it leaves behind silica strands you can pick up.
What was amazing about that eclipse, was that even with 90% occlusion of the sun, you could barely discern a difference in the amount of light. We were at an airshow in Houston and they actually had a break for it in the schedule. Handed out eclipse glasses and everything.
With the bamboo that’s actually quite normal with wood. We see it in house fires a lot. The fire burns the outside of the wood but the burnt wood actually insulates the rest of the wood from the heat. This is why fire fighters are able to go inside timber frame buildings that are on fire and why steel frame buildings are considered more dangerous when on fire.
The very beautiful Japanese charred wood house cladding called Shou Sugi Ban (Yakisugi) relies on this very fact to aid in fireproofing houses in wildfire areas.
That issue with steel is also mainly why WTC 7 collapsed but connected towers like in the Grenfell fire don't collapse. Steel without concrete is really is really bad in a fire
@@fallofshadows2209 Yes. So a good sized chunk of wood can take a good half hour to burn through to the point it is too weak to support weights while steel heats up faster and more uniformly and starts loosing strength above about 600º F. By 1000º it has lost nearly half its strength and can't support weight. Concrete can get about twice as hot before it starts to degrade.

Mud can be scary sometimes
Yea
You should of been slapped for being stupidly overdramatic....
It would be more fun if someone scream "No, Artax!!!"
There's a time to laugh and a time not to laugh, and more often than not people choose to laugh at the wrong time. A scared kid is no laughing matter.

I'll be honest, he had me on the first half. At first I just thought it was a quick attempt at perspective play.

That is because you are still getting exposed by 10% of quadrillion worth of atomic bombs in energy...
@@jc441-i3q There's a total eclipse next year. If you're lucky enough to be near it's path, you should certainly make plans to see it.
I noticed that during the total eclipse a few years ago. All looked normal until JUST before the sun was completely covered up.
@@GeoEstesThat was an annular eclipse, the ring of fire. The total one won’t happen until April 8th.

@@tylerjohn4607How so? I’m guessing steel spreads the heat faster rather than being a good insulator?
@@fallofshadows2209 Yes. So a good sized chunk of wood can take a good half hour to burn through to the point it is too weak to support weights while steel heats up faster and more uniformly and starts loosing strength above about 600º F. By 1000º it has lost nearly half its strength and can't support weight.
Concrete can get about twice as hot before it starts to degrade.
bamboo just has less water and flammable things and has better carbon dioxide ventilation because of the holes
I like the cat just scratching his foot. Other cats are wild
