I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t understand the complaint with Penelope and Colin’s screen time either. Every main romance couple shared their screen time with other family members non-significant relationships.
Simon and Daphne shared screen time in season 1 with Anthony and Siena Rosso, Benedict and Madam Delacroix and Lady Granville, Colin and Marina Thompson and Penelope.
Anthony and Kate shared screen time in season 2 with Colin and Penelope and Lady Marina Crane, Eloise and Theo, Violet and Edmund, and Benedict and all his confusion idk. Not to mention all of the other side bar situations.
Anyways I personally like it this way because we have years to see some of these individuals develop or see where they are in comparison to challenges they faced in flash backs which tends to lay the foundation for their primary romance in future seasons. It’s like an 1800’s soap opera.

OMG your comparison to a soap opera is spot on for me. That's exactly what this feels like -- a well funded, well shot, well performed, beautifully costumed soap opera with lots of drama and passionate love. What Shonda is known for! I know what I'm watching so I largely remain unbothered. Thanks for watching with me, and your comment!

Kendra, I loved your reaction and your comments afterwards. I think Season 3 was largely successful and I am very happy with the way they made this season. I will say that I could see how some might have criticisms here or there, but I don't agree with any of the videos that are claiming it was a disaster or whatever. I don't even bother with those because I disagree. I was moved to tears quite a few times and I really love Colin and Penn as a couple. I saw a really good, 55-minute analysis of Colin Bridgerton as a character, last night, and it filled me in on a lot of stuff that I didn't know, and it makes me like him -- and actor Luke Newton -- all the more! Anyway, thank you for your reactions! You are great!

I should watch that video! Yeah I agree with you 100% I will only watch balanced reviews with fair arguments, this sensationalist, click-baity stuff doesn't appeal to me at all. Inciting anger and negative passion is a trend now, one that I stay far away from. Thanks so much for watching!

I'm sorry to be back here again but I'll just leave the comment that Colin was putting Pen in front of Lords & titled men because he wanted her to find someone better than him as an untitled 3rd son, & he truly believed she didn't need teaching because he was charmed by her already & the Pen he knew was smart, beautiful & witty. He assumed she'd flutter her lashes and men would fall at her feet... because it was already working on him 😌🩵

I couldn't agree more with your opinion on how the show went. I also read the book ages ago, I really resonate with Penelope and Colin's story. I think Luke and Nicolas are blowing it out the water. I'm sure they would have made changes as well if they had all the power in the world, but they didn't. And neither did the showrunner! 😂 The story couldn't go nowhere I was hoping it would, but is still allowed to be interesting and good and engaging and heart melting for me ❤🩷 like I love this wedding episode. I'm so glad I protected myself from spoilers as well as I did (even though I did get some, I knew how little some spoilers could be trusted as true)
But of all seasons, this one and the amount of story lines they wanted to incorporate, which again I would be fine with, may have benefited from even a singular 9th episode. And I also bet they had enough footage to do so

I’ve loved watching your Polin reaction videos over the last few months. Your comment about them being like crack cocaine nailed it for me 🤣🤣 I also agree with your final comment about the end of the season. I would have loved more Polin moments, especially towards the end, to see them happy after the drama of LW would have been perfect. I could have easily sacrificed Benedict and his threesomes for that to happen. Really can’t wait for season four and a lot more romantic Polin moments 😍😍😍😍

Love that you loved it! Would I have loved more cute, fun Polin moments? Sure, but a lot of criticisms are from people who would never be happy. One girl on TikTok said it would've been better if he'd pretended to love her then kidnapped & isolated her in the countryside - which has 30k+ likes! Like...baby, no. These are two flawed characters who identified their own insecurities & worked on them to be better for themselves and each other. We are not romanticising domestic abuse tactics over here. Our couple are rule breakers - constantly unchaperoned - but that's it and that only happens because no one sees Pen other than Colin who literally looked for her in every social occasion (very obvious in a rewatch).
Also saw it was too "feminist" as he said he just lives for her. Firstly, he didn't. He said "if" that was his purpose, then became a whole published writer, father and manager of the Featherington estate. Secondly, that declaration wins over the book one. He had to be humbled several times but he did learn. That's how we know he's a fictional man 🥲
Anyway, would've loved another scene or two of them being goofy and in love over Benedict getting railed every which way but hopefully we get more of that with each new season. Loved the review, will happily take more thoughts! The Polin subreddit has great Easter eggs, just stay out of the Bridgerton one. They seem to hate every part of the show yet frequent the boards? Idk...

    • @kendraswatchlist

Don't even get me started on what some of the tik tok generation thinks is love, or even a healthy relationship...yikes indeed. I have seen folks talking about rumors laying out the next season and it seems they are/have been transitioning to a more ensemble feel with at least a couple of "main romances" going on in one season, so I absolutely expect more Polin, whether in the foreground or the side plots, whether good times or bad times, because not all marriages are perfect not even Polin's haha clearly.

I have only just found your reactions and I have loved them so thank you! They most align with my feelings about the episodes. This season is by far my favourite and Polin is by far my favourite love story, they turned me from someone who had watched season 1 and 2 once and thought they were okay to a superfan who has now read all the books and watched season 3 more times than I would like to admit. Also similar to you I spent most of part 2 in tears, I watched it all in one go and was severely dehydrated afterward 😂.

So great to see your positivity and enthusiasm for the season. I think that every time there’s a book adaptation no one will be completely happy but I enjoy theseason overall. Would I have liked to see Polin more than we did? Absolutely. Do I wish that we got to see more of a honeymoon after they married? You better believe it. But overall, I feel like this season actually had a lot of references from the book and I really appreciated that. As you said, more than anything, I just enjoyed Nicola and Luke’s portrayal of my favorite couple, so I call that a win.

the comment abt entitlement and extremism and ‘if all of our hopes and dreams are not serviced then we decide that it’s bad’ i couldn’t agree more. a lot of people wanted so much, had convoluted notions of what they expected to see and forgot that while this show is for everyone it doesn’t have to appease everyone. if that were so it would be boring and predictable. if writers kept the appeasement in the back of their mind they wouldn’t write anything in fear of upsetting anyone. i appreciate your mini analysis and i look forward to the more in-depth one if you will ever record that! thank you for sharing your thoughts and liking this season as at least some of us have lol!

  • @rbrainsop1
    @rbrainsop1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

I really loved your reactions to this season! I especially appreciated what you said about people's preferences- that just because someone doesn't like something, that doesn't mean it's bad. I, for one, am not a big fan of season 2 with Kate and Anthony. But I don't call it a bad season, or claim they are a bad couple. They're just not my favorites. But I'm glad it's there for those who loved it!
I also loved your appreciation for Colin. There are too many reactions I've ended up clicking away from because they go off on a rant on him, and I'm just not here for that. He's absolutely a flawed character, just like Penelope and everyone else. But I feel like people are willing to give Penelope the benefit of the doubt, and appreciate all the nuances of her character and growth arc. But when it comes to Colin, they just put him in the "privileged man who needs to get over himself" box without considering any of his personal traumas and struggles.

I love your reaction to the wedding so much.. it had all my favorite clips. Colin and Penelope's nod before walking down the aisle makes my heart explode! 💕 💓I want to cry😂 I think their love is so beautiful. I think it's also very brave of calling the way he's never too proud to take the advice of others and really consider his feelings. So he understands they're in a disagreement they have to eventually work through, but he also knows it's his wedding day and he LOVES HER!!💗💒 It would be hard to make me not feel like this season was beautiful, because of them.

One the things I don't get about people's negativity is that it is SO CLEAR he loves Pen even while he's hurt/angry/lashing out. At least to me. That nod was all the confirmation I needed and what gave Pen the courage to walk down the aisle into a marriage with a dark secret hanging over it.

This is so real! Have these people never been mad at or hurt by people they love? Also, they act like a Colin has no reason to be mad at Pen. Colin totally loves her, but he's also this intensely insecure soft boy who leads with his emotions; he's got to work through his hurt/anger/confusion before he and Pen can properly reconcile.

I'd love to get a full review about this season from you. We seem to have very similar thoughts on Polin and S3 ...I absolutely adored this season and I also feel that this season had alot of hate built up for it concerning Luke Newton not actually dating Nicola, people hating on Colin for being sensitive and not bombastic like Anthony, and people fat-shaming Nicola. I also think this season had so many more people hate on it due to not seeing what they wanted from the book and then labeling it as bad. The Colin in the book is very different from show Colin in terms of his aggression....in the books he was toxic and at times abusive towards Pen, but people mistake that as passionate...from the very beginning of S1 all the creators and Luke Newton talked about how they didn't want to make that ok and decided to shift Colin to being even more sensitive, and while he has a temper he is never aggressive...for this reason, I think Colin in particular gets alot of hate and is constantly demeaned for being a wimp or a baby, so anytime he is expressing emotions that is not aggressive anger, book fans and general audiences want to hate on him for being different or not the typical male lead we are used to seeing. It is so frustrating because to me, show-Colin is the healthiest and most stable Bridgerton sibling and I think this season was the most realistic and entertaining one yet.

Your reaction popped up on my suggestions and I truly enjoyed re-watching this season through your eyes! I also disagree about people's negative feedback because it sounds rushed to me. Season 2 was perfect, when i watched it before watching season 3. The main characters and actors playing the main characters, perfect! And on top of that, it's the enemies to lovers trope, which is guaranteed success. But people also criticised it A LOT because it didn't have nearly as much intimate scenes as the season 1. Now i wonder if people criticise season 3 in part because it's not Kate and Anthony...
But valid reasons are the screen time spent on storylines of characters that will have full seasons deficated to them in the future. I wonder if that's related to the actors' contracts, maybe demanding more scenes in order to agree to stay for their future season? If that's the case, it's a pity, I like that these characters stay in the background before their season comes, i think it gives the viewer something to look forward to, and not make preconceived judgements. The main example is Benedict, we didn't need so much, because maybe he will come back in his season as a full character and not match people's expectations now.
Anyway... I understand people "rushing" to criticise season 3 right after watching season 2. I thought nothing could top season 2, even after first watching season 3 (it was hard not to wait constantly for Kate and Anthony to show up). But i keep re-watching season 3, because of the new main characters... So i definitely put season 3 on top of my list, and the only criticism that i have is the screen time spent on characters' separate storylines, who will have their own seasons for that. This makes me go into the next season with expectations that they will also give more screen time to Colin and Pen, in Benedict's season... And i didn't want to have expectations 😔

  • @TinaAjala
    @TinaAjala 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I think a main thing is: the creators of the Bridgerton series established in their story telling that they are gonna show not tell what is happening. But they decided not to show us what happened behind closed doors betwenn Polin after Francescas wedding in favor of the surprise twist that led to the ultimate LW reveal at the butterfly ball.
And apparently Polin did not clear up everything in this conversation behind closed doors because we still get the Colin monloge in the end.
Instead we got shown 4(?) threesome scenes with Benedict which could have been more effective and edited down .
I actually loved season three BUT it was a bait and switch from the "friends to lover" trope to general growth and learning and selfacceptance and forgiving.
I think it is fair to feel like the pacing and editing of the last two episode were are let down compared to the first six episodes and to the expactation that the show creators established for their viewers since season one.

I love your reactions, and how much you love and appreciate Colin! So many people misunderstand and hate on him, but he's such a good man! My only push back is that we need to be careful talking down about Colin in ways we would never do with Penelope. You talk about him being an "emo man" and his "little feelings" being hurt. But remember all he's dealing with when it comes to the revelation that Penelope is Whistledown:
    1) reconciling the fact that the woman he loves most and the woman he hated most are in fact the same person, 2) reckoning with all the damage she has caused, including nearly ruining the lives of two women he cares for, 3) questioning how well he actually knows her, since he was unaware of such a huge part of her life, 4) traumatic flashbacks to his situation with Marina, which, though it was different, had a few striking parallels- mainly his fiance keeping a huge secret from him that he really should have been told in order to know what he was choosing and committing to, and making him feel like a fool being taken advantage of again, 5) the betrayal of knowing that the woman he loves/trusts most in the world chose to expose all his insecurities to the entire ton rather than simply coming to him directly, which would be hurtful in any relationship, whether romantic or not, 6) embarrassment at having gone on about his writing, only to now feel like a joke, and that she must have just been humoring him or even laughing at him, 7) even more insecurity (on top of what he already had) because Penelope, who he already thought was out of his league, is now not only the amazing, clever, beautiful woman he knew, but also a renowned writer with her own personal fortune. What could he possibly do to deserve her now? 8) fear over what might happen to her if she's caught, which is becoming more and more likely as the queen is on the hunt, especially after she shows up at the wedding, 9) fear over what will happen to his family if she is caught, and 10) feeling absolutely powerless in the face of all this.
And he manages to work through all that with just a week or two of self reflection! Penelope didn't have half as much to work through, and we supported her giving Colin the cold shoulder for the better part of a year over his comment! And we certainly would never have talked down about her and her "little feelings" being hurt. So why should we talk about Colin that way?
We want Colin to just get over it and forgive her already. But we never told Penelope to just get over it and forgive him already. We see the truth in Kate's advice to him to not let one mistake define their relationship. But it's not just one mistake... it was years worth of choices and actions and lies that he's having to deal with all at once. And meanwhile, we were more than happy for Penelope to let one mistake from Colin essentially end their relationship. There's a bit of a double standard when it comes to these two, since Penelope is our POV character. My man Colin kind of gets a raw deal.

The biggest issue for me personally is the reaction to Luke’s personal life. He was spotted with his partner at the part 2 premiere after party, and yes the timing might be off, but people actual disliking him, and not watching because of that ? Wow. I know the PR tour blurred lines between Nicola and Luke, but they said numerous times they were friends, and they don’t owe fans them being together.

I've also seen how incredibly hard both actors (the whole crew really) worked to make this a great season, and how much they paid attention to trying to deliver something the fans would love, but "fans" these days only want what their fantasies are, and if they don't get the fantasy, they're like spoiled children.

I'm not a prude and I respect everyone's sexual preferences, but I don't need to see them on screen. That time could have been used so much better. Luke and Nichola's acting was superb and I'm so glad I could experience it. Loved the whole cast, actually. I am wondering if the Featheringtons will be on next season as they are so well liked! Oh?! 😞🧐 The two wordies romantically falling in love with each other using mostly spoken and written word??! Not like that might be the most honest way to represent their relationship??? 😂❤This is just one of the aspects in which each Bridgerton-sibling love story has something different about it.
