  • There is a storm coming and we have a leaking rear window in our motorhome. This is the perfect time for a do it yourself project. We remove the window and use butyl tape to reseal the exterior.

I usually apply the butyl tape to the window first, but that seemed to work too. Nice job!

Next time just put your tape in the fridge for a couple hours and have wet hands while you work with it. Won't stick so bad to you while working with it. Great video

It is also recommended to silicone across the top and down the side a few inches. We re sealed all our windows last year on our 86 Bounder 34'. It has the ripply sides and we used two layers. The factory used some black caulk which would streak down the sides, so the butal caulk was a good fix.

I would also put some DICOR self leveling compound the entire exterior window

The butyl tape should go on the window before it is installed, not on the outside of the RV.

good vid and work I would recommend going ahead and resealing the rest of the windows and doors because from my and other friends experience when one seal goes the rest are not to far from going. it just a lot easier to do when you all ready have all the tools and supply's out and a system down for doing the work .

I totally agree with doing all of them. It's a common repair item and needs to be done regularly. I can't tell you how many windows I have seen with house caulk run around the outside of he window edge hoping to fix the leak. Not going to happen. The whole unit needs to be removed just like you did and new sealant applied. Well done.

Thanks you I hope I can use this to fix my windows that looks as if someone tried to break in they took the outside rim off.

good way to remove old sealer is to sharpen a piece of oak inch wide strip an use to scrape old sealer off.Wood will not scratch paint. Than Goo Be Gone will clean residue. Do clean residube before replacing window.

That was a very good job! We need to do something similar in our camper. There is a window on the sliding side door which lets the rain in. I have some sealant to try! Take care xxx

Another great video from you two! I have really been enjoying your videos and am extremely interested in watching your travel experiences on the way up to Alaska. I live in Anchorage and am flying to Spokane toward the end of May to pick up my new (to me) RV and drive it back to Anchorage. Going to spend the summer taking long weekend trips in Alaska and getting to know my RV, then tentatively planning to start snow birding it out of Alaska in the fall of 2017. Anyway, thanks for sharing your videos as they are informative and, who knows, maybe I'll bump into you on the road this summer. Safe travels!

Good job, you two ... my windows don't leak, but they seem to rattle/vibrate when driving ... hoping butyl tape resolves that issue ... safe travels!

Good job sealing the window. Could the drip be from condensation with the insulation against the window? And before placing the inside trim, fill the gap with silicone sealant.

Problem I have on my Forest River 30' toy hauler is on EVERY window the (white looking sealer) has run down out of the window frames up to 10" down from frames from heat in the summer. It came from the factory with this crap.
Wondering if this butal tape has the same flowing from heat issues- or it it the same stuff?
