A Cool Boarders game just doesn't feel right without the PS1's crazy texture warping and a max framerate of 15fps
The Dreamcast succeeding has to be the biggest what it if gaming history, Sega had HUUUGE plans for it.
At least we got the sonic adventure games out of it.
@@joshshrum2764 It also was the cheapest way to get a home computer at the time for people that couldn't afford a full fledged PC. Console +keyboard/mouse kit +seganet service +the web browser disc, and you're up and running.
iirc it had an indie dev support, like i think you could get a kit and develop simple games with it and then share over the dreamcast internet with your buddies. why dont more creepypasta start with "i played a cursed dreamcast indie game i downloaded from some stranger"

That Blue Submarine game seems like a pretty cool game, especially the soundtrack

@@Hamdad I've always had real mixed feelings about Blue Submarine No. 6. On one hand the 2d stuff is beautifully animated and the visuals are engaging. On the other the 3d stuff is visually awful and the ending is just bizarre and not in the good way. I don't really get what it was going for. Maybe the Manga it's based on is more coherent in that regard.
@@Faucetofstone I think the CGI aged a bit better compared to most modern CGI that newer anime uses that usually looks very out of place all the time.
@@Faucetofstone The CGI has admittedly not aged well but at the time it was a revolutionary concept as no other production had really utilized in an anime production before, it paved way for more complex and better advanced CGI usage later in other anime and games. So while not as visually appealing by modern standards, you can at least appreciate its historical significance. Blue Sub no.6 was one of my earliest anime i ever saw back on toonami so it will always have a special place in my heart. I should download the game as i never played it as it was only jp release but since it has a fan translation now i have a chance.
I think the Blue Submarine one's based on a movie, I only know this because saw clips of it in bumpers for a now defunct UK channel called CNX.

If you're in need for some more quality Dreamcast games, I couldn't recommend _"Spirit of Speed 1937"_ enough. It's perhaps the greatest swan song a developer like LJN could possibly give and by that I mean exactly what you expect from them.
Shame, it's one of the few racing games pointed at antique auto racing

Agartha is pretty interesting
it was developped by Frederic Raynal, creator of alone in the dark (survival horror pioneer game) but it was scraped because considered too expensive too develop by studios executives
it was supposed to be a survival horror with a lovecraftian ambiance and setting, kinda like "at the mountain of madness"
it’s too bad agartha was never finished :( the arctic is a great setting for a horror story
look up Syberia on the Xbox. Or "The Thing" on PS2. The early 2000's seems to have been a fad for these types of games.
Seriously, the early footage made it look like Resi 4 on a snowy mountain. It looked really cool.
Zombie Revenge! Yeah, what an awesome game. It's held together with duct tape and I played it for 1,000 hours when it released.

Such a whiplash to see Vinny playing Cool Boarders on Dreamcast. I used to play it all the time when I was a kid and I just forgot about it, the Snowman was my fav character. The game's bad but it's good in my heart.

IMO all ps1 emulators need to re-create the disk spinning sound. I have no idea why i like that so much it's so weird!

My favorite thing about the snowboarding game is that literally all of the characters are moderately to bordering severely underweight, except for Ronnie and Accele... AND the DJ guy, who's apparently obese. Like what is going on here
I hope some indie devs would create a 3D game on Dreamcast.. there's so much potential devs could do to that console. Really hoping one day.

All this time, I thought Cool Boarders was a PlayStation exclusive.
I agree that there are many Gamecube games that still look nice today (including the ones you mentioned), but another one that I think still looks nice is Star Fox Adventures. Say what you will about the game *itself* (I personally love it as a Zelda-ish game, though I completely understand that it is a TERRIBLE fit for the series) I think those fur, water, fire, lighting, etc. effects still look very nice.
Really, every major GameCube games still hold up to this day.

Lol I didn't expect this at all going to watching this section of the stream but I'm glad I was there. Those gun physics in Agartha. 😏 That Cool Boarders game was hilarious, those sounds and screaming music made me laugh 😂 Also the crazy characters. Tightsman. 🏳️🌈 Zombie Revenge looked surprisingly good. But I enjoyed watching and laughing with all of these, thanks for sharing Vin.
The PS1 version of Cool Boarders was much better imo
I remember the Cool Boarders PS1 games being super fucking popular when I was a kid. The one Vinny played here, however, was a weird spin off (the fifth in the series overall) that was named Rippin' Riders Snowboarding in the US (lol) and Snow Surfers in EU. It's nowhere near as good as the real Cool Boarders games.
Also, Vinny, don't ever apologise for calling anime ridiculous. It IS ridiculous. It's ALL completely ridiculous, and if anyone gets their panties in a bunch over this statement, l would like to remind people that it's not real and there's absolutely no reason to get mad over a stranger's opinions on cartoons.
