Check your torque converter bolts. If they come loose or the flex plate cracks, it will knock like a rod. Things to check before giving up on that motor.
I still have flareside 4.9....over 300,000 miles and still putting along. The Mazda transmissions suck though. Go out very easy. The O2 sensors shut it down to. Other than that, it's a reliable engine if you keep up with the maintenance.
Go to a junk yard and get a gen 6 454 they are the best ones to have. Drop your intake on it and carn and distributor and all your pulley system and put a cam in it and it will have good power.
hey, if thats a up to 1996 4.9L aka 300 CID, those straight 6's were *tanks*. I had a 1965 F100 with the first year of that motor, it had a bajillion miles of neglect on it, and just always ran.
That truck looks Minty. Wow. The new motor should keep him on the road for a lifetime, as long as he Checks and changes the oil. You guys can help him get the twist out of the bumper and let him drive away looking new all over.
I know a guy. He's in North Dakota and he works really cheap...burritos and Pepsi! Ha! 😊 what were you gonna do? Make it bulletproof and dead reliable??? Naw, that wouldn't be any fun! Those 300s don't live long above 9800 rpms😂 Thanks for the vid Shawn!! Peace!
Hi Mike and Shawn I really love your show can you please do more new show for all of us please we will be waiting for you ok I will always praying 🙏 for you 🙏 Mike and Shawn and Rory and family and friends ok you have a wonderful day and have a good night and day ok love Lorilee xoxoxoxox
Those metal mites sure ate a bunch of holes in that block, do you have an infestation of them there? Sounds like they are working on Shawn’s four door now.
My gosh pretty soon you will be able to switch motors in your sleep really wish you good luck but always need to work on the rock crawler stay greasy😊😅😢
Shawn, Why not rebuild one of the 454's you already have. Getting another old junkyard motor will just leave you in the same situation. It might only need rings and bearings, which is way cheaper than buying a new engine. That's some impressive damage to the 6.
I used to work on those ford trucks daily back when I worked for ford I ended up getting my ford masters when I was younger and worked for ford for over 30 years and then I got sick and became disabled now I’m lucky to be able to work on a vehicle every now and then when my wife’s truck needs repairs but unfortunately I have to schedule repairs around her work schedule and hope that I can get what I’m doing done in a three day weekend or when she takes a week off work stuff that used to take me 30 minutes now takes me a few days to complete I miss being able to work on vehicles daily but I don’t miss the snap on Mac matco and cornwell tool trucks aka rape vans hey you and Rory have twin shops

And Rory would go wheel’n with ya if I had a buggy I would go with y’all but unfortunately I don’t think it will ever happen for me due to me being a disabled veteran on a fixed income so there isn’t a way for me to get one built so I can just watch y’all and dream about having another vehicle of my own had to sell my truck because we couldn’t afford to have two vehicles even though I don’t drive that often anymore I miss my old ford trucks had a 93 f150 that I bought new and had to get rid of that because you couldn’t get two car seats in it years later I got a 96 f350 extended cab truck had to let it go because I couldn’t afford to have two cars to insure

Another motor to replace. Good experience for him to do it. Nice to have someone to help him with it. Next is a motor for your truck.

One of the best motors ever made this is the first one I ever seen blowing up did he run it with no oil?😂😂

Hello from Seattle :)
Hole in block? JB weld will fix it.
Yep works every time. That's a inspection port. Lol
Hector are you listening 😂
Your nephew was trying really hard to break that online 4.9 ford engine. Those things were built proof. 😮
👍🏽👍🏽
Well. The oil pan conveniently collected most of the parts 😂😂😂😂.
I would change the pickup tub so it doesn't blow the new motor
Break cleaner works great for spiders

Oh and comment something.. anything don't be scared. Or don't. But I do

Build a motor for that truck.

Doesn’t look like it had very many oil changes
