Hay it's your "new bro" / subscriber from San Diego. I visit Mismi twice a year( Tua Time, Baby!!!!) I think your right. At that price why would you book thier it wouldn't be head and shoulder better than a 3.5 star hotel. I find the view is the same and if you only stay in a resort you are spending 700.00 a night on 3 meals and pool drinks and parking. That's why you should appreciate the cadilac and Royal palms more. If you were treated better outside the USa it's because of the power of the U.S. dollar in Asia and Mexico for the tipped employees. Remember this. In Miami nobody smiles at tourist unless they think they will get a double tip because they are banking on you not knowing a tip is in the bill and they want more money.
Sup Lucas! In retrospect, the Cadillac wasn't all so bad. Like I've mentioned, I had an epic streak of hotels leading up to that stay, so my lens through which I analyzed the hotel may have been a tad overly critical. On the other hand, i standby my review of the royal palm as that place didn't resonate with me personally.
Respectfully, I think the enhanced hotel service, experience, and upgrades when traveling to Europe and Asia has more to do with the culture, economics, quality protocols, and service standards over there than the power of the dollar.
And yes, I've noticed the potential for double-tipping in Miami! One needs to pay attention to the itemized Bill because like you said many times the tip is already included. Also, and Generally speaking, I've always felt Miami's service from luxury hotels was just average.

That tiki bar at Cadillac was so cool. I'd go back to that spot for a drink even if I wasn't staying there. Enjoy the trip! 🌴

What about COVID? Any hotel restrictions? Pool area? Is the breakfast buffet open? What about city restrictions?
Where would you stay. A couple and a 13 years kid... Mandarin Brickell or Ritz South Beach?
