    I think a 1/4" hard rubber gasket between the head and plate would've worked out better, it would conform with the warped surface and imperfections

    Nice progress. What made you choose the portapower over the grease zerk?

    • @805ROADKING
      @805ROADKING  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Bud!! Cost!! It would have taken over 20 tubes of grease at about $5 a tube!! The waste oil was free!! And the oil is alot easier to clean up and dispose of!!☺

    I guess you don't have a buddy with a back hoe or some such piece of hydraulic equipment that has a 'wet line' on it ? Hook that up and slowly, very slowly, apply the hydraulic power to that and see if that moves the piston. This line would have somewhere in the region of 1500 to 1800 PSI , What do you think of this ?
    That pumpkin in the tree is something I have never seen before, that too, is interesting in itself.

    • @regsparkes6507
      @regsparkes6507 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      This 'wet line' attachment can be on almost any hydraulic powered equipment, even a mini excavator,...is there a rental shop around you. If so ask them if they have a mini excavator with a wet line . Then see if the cost is worth the try .
      Good luck .

    Moving along. Last one I did, I filled it full of grease first, then switched to the porta-power. I had a headless Witte many years ago.

    maybe make up a quick jig to hook the porta power on to the rod to pull it out by the big-end of the rod?

  • @locouk
    @locouk 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It's weird how the oil is dripping from inside the piston, I'm wondering if there are through holes under the piston rings or if there's a cracked piston.

    Just a suggestion - you can use a pressure washer pump to pressurize and remove that piston. The pressure wash pump will make over 1000 PSI. It will push water into the cylinder and force the piston out. Most home shops have a pressure washer, so that is usually an easily available source of high pressure fluid that is at fairly high volume.
    Glad you're getting it moving! That blind cylinder "headless" design is a real pain when the piston is stuck!

    Do you suppose that if you took the crank and flywheels back off and put the rod back together, then stood the engine up with the rod in the air. Hook onto the rod with the engine hoist and lift carefully while heating the cylinder and applying penetrating oil around the skirt it would come apart?

    • @emildekoven4872
      @emildekoven4872 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're on to something: Allowing the weight of the engine to supply force on that piston. Some taps could be added. From the beginning, another course might to use a hammer-drill on the upturned cylinder.....with heat and penetrating oil. Of course the drill's bit would be cushioned by a plate on top of the cylinder....
      The jarring action is important is breaking the hold of rust....!!!

    Had a similar problem years ago, We filled it with oil, and then used a grease gun. We had a pressure gauge on it and we were able to build up over 2000 lbs with a regular grease gun. I made up all the fittings and it got the job done.

    Should have used grease. And a pneumatic grease gun.
    (Pack it with a bunch of grease on top of the oil, or if the oil starts coming out again, ALL grease. Can take up some of the volume with chunks of whatever solids you want that will fit down there.

    Fantastic! I love that moment when stuff just starts to break free. I was just thinking hook a log splitter or other hydro unit to it but the porta power is probably better with the slow and steady.

    Put a 2x4 through the spokes on the flywheels towards the water hopper side and lift the engine up until the back is off the ground a few inches and it sit over night. The weight of the engine pulling on it might pull the piston back further. I didn't see if you guys put the caps back onto the crankshaft.

  • @pkuudsk9927
    @pkuudsk9927 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Like the pumpkin tree as well that was neat to know.
    I would think if you kept the wheel jacked up with the eng. hoist the tension might just do it with a bit of heat to the cylinder. or it might just pop out over night just jacked up .
    Any way cool stuff to me thumbs up!

    You might have better luck with a grease gun and grease that way it doesn't leak around the piston because the grease is thicker.

  • @FireballXL55
    @FireballXL55 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know this is old now but you would not be able to move it with the flywheels while you had the plate on the side, it needs to allow air in or out the let the piston move.

    Hi guys nice to see you get it to move, Whats wrong with Dirtbike don't he trust you to borrow his stuff without adult supervision L.O.L. I kinda hope that piston and cylinder hasn't picked up and scored, when it cooled making it go tighter again with the burrs grabbing. My Buddy did that with a 2 1/2 " pin on an excavator cylinder without cooling it first. He proceeded to beat on it harder with a huge piece of steel rod as a punch, mushrooming the pin even tighter before i got the" Help me I'm stuck with this!" call.
    That turned into a real F'er of a job and more than one choice word in a few sentences trying to get it back out the other way with a 14lb hammer, heating / cooling to break the rust then adding penetrating oil to. When the pin was finally out you could really see the score/burr marks where it picked up. If he had heated and cooled with water,even a few times first, it would of come out in half the time and with less effort. Good luck and I'm looking forward to the next installment.
