Team really dropped the bag on this one. Should have just pitted Oscar first, like they were supposed since he was the lead car and Lando wasn’t under pressure from any cars behind him that would have forced him to pit first.

The tragic part of it all is that it would have been all the more interesting to see if Lando could have caught up in the circumstances which you suggested. McLaren know they have a driver that in his first two seasons in F1 has done better than Lando in his first 2 seasons. And I’m not talking about having a championship contender car this year, but of the high level that Piastri showcases for a rookie basically.
He out qualified Lando a few times and also finished higher in few races.
And in the short history of those two together, every single time the one that got undercut was Piastri and I think him and his manager have drawn a line in the sand which McLaren can no longer ignore.
But at least now McLaren will know that they need to play it fair for both of them, otherwise there will be a sit opening on both Mercedes and RBR which Piastri could easily fill.

To put not only Lando but also Oscar in this scenario, to say "Hey fix this because we cannot admit we messed up priority in the pits" and the essentially emotionally manipulate Lando into giving up his second race win is truly unforgivable.
If I were either driver I would only want to know why Oscar was not pitted first, the rest you already know, they clearly do not care who they hurt here and it seems have no concept of what can come from this.
Would not be surprised if we saw Lewis-Nico style relationship in the future all sparking from this atrocity of a team F-up.
Big props to Lando, don't agree with him giving the place back but there you go.

He wasn't slipping around, no overheating, nothing. It was very comfortable with the pace and the tyre management. If you hear the radio from lap 5 lando was told to slow down in almost every corner on each lap which lowered his pace. The pitwall also has engine control to reduce car performance FYI. Later on he closed a 5s gap to 1.5s with oscar which is why they called him to box so he would never have the chance to fight oscar on track. They were very clear that Lando couldn't race against oscar, only oscar could race against lando. On lap 45 they point blank told Lando to not fight oscar and their focus was lewis and max. Oscar was just doing his normal mediocre tyre management while Lando was forced to hold back his pace for most part of the race. Finally due to the undercut he got the lead and as per instructions from morning he got the lead by not "racing" oscar so he unleashed his full pace to make a 6s gap thinking at least he could win now. @@SB0418 Are we living in a world where there's no ethics? Maybe in your country. Poor you. The team made Lando undercut Oscar because they have the sense of belief that Lando would at least respect the team and his team mate that he'll switch the position back which by the way Lando AGREED to do. But of course, he like a spoiled brat he is, he didn't want to give it back anymore. What a man of honour he is.

I believe McLaren doesn’t want their drivers to race each other wheel to wheel especially for when its 1 and 2 points. This strategy was to keep them at a safe distance from each other. Without telling their drivers that they are really not allowed to be competitive with each other. If Lando gave the position earlier and started to put pressure on Oscar then the engineers would have been telling both drivers to save tires to keep them from racing each other

Sometimes you gain a positon during the pitstops, outlap, inlap, blabla, doesn't matter...they did not give the position to Norris as a present, it was gaind by a bit better strategy calls, that's how it works sometimes. Now they gave the "win" to Oscar and who knows, maybe took the championship from Norris at the end.
