Bleeding the fuel line on a Firebird Diesel Boiler in a Central Heating System

  • When your diesel boiler runs out of fuel you may need to bleed the fuel line of air (once the tank has been filled again) in order to get the diesel boiler running again. This is a short video showing you how to bleed a Firebird Diesel Boiler using the bleed nozzle. If this method is too much hassle for you, we suggest you consider having a Tigerloop system installed. See our video on how easy it is to bleed with a Tigerloop ( • Bleeding the fuel line... ).

      @@malmoran8643 for our system, there's a plastic valve sticking out of a pipe above the water boiler which you can turn open temporarily to flush more water into the system as needed. If there's no pressure meter beside the valve, you'll just need to gauge it by popping out to the boiler to check pressire after each few seconds you have the valve open.

    Great! Thanks good to know where the reset button is on the burner. Ran out of oil for a couple of days but when pressed the reset worked again after a couple of goes without bleeding. In the UK the Firbird looks identical inside to our 'Grant' boilers. Thanks!

    This method works ok if you have a short and simple fuel line. I tried it several times but the boiler kept locking out again. My fuel line is about 10 metres long, has a couple of 90 degree turns, drops under a path and rises again. We had to turn off the valve at the boiler, disconnect the flexible hose by the bleed valve, turn on the valve and run about 5 litres of fuel into a container before all the air cleared.

    • @centralheatingnz
      @centralheatingnz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your comment, sounds like it was a bit of working getting the air out, but pleased you managed to get it working again. We recommend our customers install a Tigerloop which bleeds to line for you. It's particularly good for longer fuel lines. We also have a fuel level monitoring tool which helps prevent the fuel running out.

    You don't always have a positive head on your oil tank ( may be lower than boiler) and the oil won't flow at all, you may need a priming pump (even with a tiger loop).

    • @centralheatingnz
      @centralheatingnz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are absolutely correct, and I'm sure this will be helpful for people who have this setup. In New Zealand our training ensures our installers are aware if/when a tigerloop is required at the time of assessing the installation. Thank you for pointing this out. :)

    Does the tank need to be FULL or can it be topped up?

    • @centralheatingnz
      @centralheatingnz  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The tank does not need to be full provided the fuel level is higher than the boiler. We recommend a tigerloop to be fitted on our systems to eliminate the hassle of fuel level issues.

      @@centralheatingnz I have at least 500 litres of newly delivered oil in my tank, (yes I ran out of oil) I also have a tiger-loop fitted in-line to the boiler. Both tiger-loop and the boiler are approx two years old. My boiler is an external Worcester Bosch Greenstar Heat Slave 11 - 12/18. I have been trying to get it to run for two days now, but it is constantly locking out...I don't seem to be able to get all the air out of the oil, I have to date drawn at least 2 litres of oil into a bottle in my efforts to bleed directly from the burner..It will sometimes run for around five to ten minutes while still bleeding mostly showing an air oil mix...but will eventually lock out again. until I once more press the reset button, only to run for a short while before once again locking out ? If tiger - loops are that good then surely, and according to you I should not have to bleed this system, the tiger-loop would do it all for me? There is also an in-line filter fitted before the tiger-loop , which to play safe, I changed with a completely new see through bowl type only yesterday. Here in South West Cymru aka Wales, finding a heating engineer is not easy and can be expensive...therefore as a Pensioner I would be very grateful for any help you can give me, Its been raining almost none stop for days cold damp and miserable, I could do with getting my central heating to work, and a hot shower would be a God send :))
      I shouldn't really complain about the rain = good grass = good sheep & beef lol, something you guys would also know a lot about :))

    People, do not remove the plug, just loosing it. If You remove the plug, and theres any pressure in the system You are going to be covered in fuel oil, which smells like parafin. You only need to loosen it, untill bubbles go, or oil fuel starts leaking out with a little flow.
