When you’ve shown up at an orientation, they’ve shown you that brand new fully loaded Peterbilt, you look over the lease but no one stops and sends it off to their attorney or accountant to look it over. The contract clearly shows that you can give notice if you decide that it isn’t for you, but the contract is really two contracts in one. The second contract has no exit clause without penalty. They make a lot of money off turnover. Any company that has to hold a financial penalty over drivers to get them to stay, isn’t a place I want to be.
I didn’t get paid for the first 50 empty miles either. That wasn’t really a big issue for me. The time on the load was. I want to run 500-600+ miles per day. Picking up in Atlanta this morning then delivering in Tennessee or Kentucky tomorrow evening wouldn’t work for me.
The trucks are governed at 74 mph which is more than sufficient for trucks. Faster than I drove. Yes, they have driver facing cameras with AI. They have a TH-cam channel where they talk about them.
They are decent. They have nice equipment and my home time was great. I got a lot of loads that would be 500-600 miles but pick up one morning deliver the next night. That just didn’t fit with my way of running. I made way more money as a company driver. I left and returned to the carrier where I’ve spent 42 months of my 5 year trucking career. If I’m going to be a lease operator, I want to be making more than a company driver. I evaluate a carrier based upon; Culture, Home Time, Equipment, Compensation, and Knowledge.
So you average roughly $1.9 a mile loaded? I'm guessing all the insurance and stuff is under the company you a leased to? Also do they take a cut of the freight pay in addition to the variable lease or is the lease to someone else?
That is absolutely horrible. Anybody that would work under at least like that deserves what they get.

The statements show everything. There’s fixed expenses which include the insurances, fees, and bonds. Then the 43¢ variable truck lease. We
Do you have to pay tax on the net income ?
That's a good question. I believe that question must be answered by your accountant. The better your accountant, the less you will pay in taxes.
