Hey everyone! So a bit of a different style video today, I had a ton of fun making this video and I hope you all enjoy it! Don't forget that I now have an official Discord server, come on through if you're chill like that! :) discord.gg/r4VYNDxmG8
Neat! The limitations were always going to be there for games that seemingly did not originally have lighting, of course, but it looks surprisingly good a majority of the time!
7:35 - Aside from 90% of the game being a faithful, great redux, Paper Mario 2's recent rerelease did exactly this. Far too much of the environment is reflective- it's incredibly lazy how tacked-on the lighting is. Grass and Carboard fucking Boxes should NOT be reflective.
The HD trilogy is nothing. They just upscaled it to 720p and nothing more- butchered a lot of smaller elements even to achieve it to begin with. Waste of time.
Reminds me of the tomb, raider remaster, or remake that they made for switch if only they did something like this for ratchet and clank at least or the rest of the Sony Classics it would be fairly simple with today’s technology
Oh you bet it does, however with Tools it’s a bit iffy, the ray traced effect pops in and out like crazy unless you stand in one place and let the shaders take a moment to settle down
I love these kind of videos messing around with shaders!! i would watch hundreds of videos of all the franchise and other franchises too! just keep doing them man i already subscribed lol
It does look good, but is pretty much done in only screenspace. A similar effect could have been done with radial lighting combined with SSR. This would be more work however.
I'm guessing the RT shader only works with certain games? I tried it with tools of destruction and even though my GPU started to increase in usage no noticeable visual effects were present. The only thing I've actually managed to use this RT shader on so far is the OG ratchet and clank trilogy on RPCS3 and bulletstorm full clip edition the only down side to this shader is that it's not very compatible and when it is it's really demanding those two games I mentioned that work with this RT shader run like @ss I have an AMD 3600X and a RTX 2080TI
Perhaps you don't have the shader configured properly? Are you selecting the correct depth buffer from the add-ons tab? I know that not having the depth buffer selected will increase GPU usage without doing any effects because it has no access to the depth of the game to map out the effect to. I've got a RTX 3070 btw so you should have no issues running the shader, unless you've configured it wrong / bumped the settings up too high
@@RCLombax I didn't know you had to mess around in the add-ons tab I thought you just copied the shaders and textures over into the reshade folder located within your games installation directory/.exe and then enabling the necessary shaders you demonstrated.
I've placed the shaders and textures folders into the right place but for some reason I keep getting duplicates of the shaders. When I open up reshade theres two of every shader only the custom shaders though that You're using the standard reshade shaders are fine it's just duplicating the custom ones.
Make sure you don't actually have any duplicate copies of the shaders, right click on one of them in the reshade tab and choose "open folder in explorer" to see where exactly the shader is located
The tech wasn't around on PS3. But PS4? Who knows; same reason most other games don't get bothered with. They're all more than happy to remake these games from scratch though since that's what the corporate oligarchy influences nowadays.
The explosion marks _should_ be reflective because the ashes are soaked with water. I think it looks accurate. I wonder if Insomniac Games would be willing to apply their ray tracing tech from Rift Apart to the older games if they rerelease them. It would be a great option; I love how you can see the texture of the ground when the wet effect is applied.
That would be amazing, but I seriously doubt we’ll ever see these games re-released/ported to other consoles/pc, especially from Insomniac themselves. They’ve seemed to have forgotten about Ratchet in favour for more superhero stuff… a shame really, i think it’s in the fans hands to make a port now. And that way we can add whatever we want technically
@@gnbman According to the leaks, no new game until 2029 :( Looks like it's probably gonna be a PS6 exclusive tbh... Messed up that we're most likely getting a conclusion to the Tools storyline 22 years after that game came out
Okay, let's see if this is actual RTX, or another clickbait video using the same screenspace GI reshade thing! EDIT: Didn't even need to watch, the description says it's the reshade.
@@RCLombax Sorry, there are just so many videos saying they 'added Ray Tracing to x game', when it's just the same reshade thing. With the release of RTX Remix, I actually think sometimes that maybe someone did it, but they never make it clear in the video that it's just screenspace.
@DonnaPinciot yeah with RTX Remix I think that tool only works with DirectX 9, so very VERY low chance of ever getting that to work with Ratchet, even using an older version of PCSX2 the emulator would just crash whenever I tried to start it with Remix

WE MAKING IT OUT OF BLACKWATER CITY WITH THIS ONE 🔥🔥🔥

Great job 👍
I like with the RTX it made the levels a little bit darker
Insane I didn't know shaders could achieve things like this.

@@Hysteria98 true. I hate some details they fucked up like Ratchet 1 water bar or the helmet in Ratchet 2
@@Hysteria98 Somehow pcsx2 got upscaling and widescreen better than virtually any HD remake of ps2 titles
@@connormcnab5276 It took until a few years ago for R&C to be playable on PCSX2. You are comparing a 2006 console to 2020 emulation on 2020 computers
It's not an upscale. It's native 720p.@@Hysteria98
Holy shit man. This looks incredible!!
for someone who claimed to have moved from thier own graphics improvement mod, they sure have continued working with and showing off graphics mods
i actually started playing ratchet & clank today for the first time lol. what you've done with the game is amazing!

Question: this is the PS3 version of these games, right? Does the shader/reflections work on the Future Series, like Tools and a Crack in Time?
Oh you bet it does, however with Tools it’s a bit iffy, the ray traced effect pops in and out like crazy unless you stand in one place and let the shaders take a moment to settle down
Awesome work making a 2002 game look like this!
This looks amazing. This is the HD collection we need
Looks absolutely spectacular. The love this community has for these games is insane!
Love the editing, keep up the good work!
Thank you!!

Thank you!
This makes a 2002 game look 10 years younger.
if i ever tried this, it would absolutely destroy my puny little pc xD it looks amazing!
Lol thank you!
Would love to see a showcase of Pokitaru. Great stuff!
Can't wait to try this out, I'd love to replay Deadlocked with this!
Unfortunately you’d have to play the PS3 port of Deadlocked tho heh

Shoutout to carby_vin and all other patreons‼️

Super, need r&c1 in vr
Wow that's quite impressive. Would love to see an FPS counter
It was mostly a stable 60 frames for most of the recording, except for the start when i bumped all the settings up like crazy
pretty cool stuff, very promising

I guess they just don’t care enough sadly

Woaaaaaaah
Is this PCSX2? If so I'm surprised that people who have experience with the shader still keep telling me that it won't work
No, RPCS3, this shader doesn't work with PCSX2 afaik because it can't correctly access the depth buffers sadly

Im guessing this doesn't work with PCSX2?
