The tone with which he says "it was an english ship".... speaks volumes! 😂

In case you don't read the Hebrew credits, and/or don't recognize the gentleman in this video, this is none other than Andy Stewart, perhaps Scotland's best known and most loved entertainer and booster of Scottish folk culture in the 1960s, 70s and 80s.
This is a clip from his one only video, probably filmed in 1991, shortly before his sad passing, way too soon.

Thanks David for this valuable information. Wasn't sure about this gentlemen and I appreciate you filling my/oor knowledge gap. When watching this video I had him in the genre of Calum Kennedy (my favourite: 'Live at the Rangers Social Club, Glasgow 1972) and Jim MacLeod and his band. Och aye - lang time ago (BTW I'm from Bo'ness, West Lothian). Take care pal.

      Hi, Hans
Thanks for your kind comment, and for reminding me of Calum Kennedy.
In case you've not seen it, here's a fascinating tragi-comedy documentary of life on the road in 1981 with one of Kennedy's traveling road shows. th-cam.com/video/uzmpYKW-8GU/w-d-xo.html

I lived with my Scottish grandad and Irish grandmother when I was young and this was one of my favourite songs....having a wee dram of Oban listening to this celebrating St. Andrew's Day Slaintè!

Andy Stewart was my dad's cousin. My dad sang this song so often when I was a kid. It's only of the only songs I remember my dad singing.

Loved Andy Stewart. Still have many of his albums and saw him at a White Heather Show.

    Thank You Johnathan.
My fathers favourite song. As many will ken.
Niven John Urquhart 6th May 1935, Jubilee Jock one of the flock.
I was singing this to my wife going to work last week.
(Poor Lass, Anne working or my singing is debatable).
    Always Argyll.
Rest and be Thankful and engrave your family's name on the Auld Fyne Bridge.
    Always Argyll.
And if ye ever need to "nip" in somewhere, please allow yourself 78 years to get back out. 🙂

If you notice Andy Stewart, didn’t drink the nip of whisky, my father was his friend in his later years, he had stomach cancer and couldn’t take in the beautiful drink of
Uisce beatha (the water of life).

I like the song, but that stretch of water is open to the sea. It would take a helluva lot of filling, and the salt would somewhat spoil the taste.😂
