As a highly experienced operator with a total of 10 hours on a rented machine..... I just want to say I was far more impressed with the operator's talent than with the actual attachment. Once he pulled that root ball and started tossing it and flipping it around, he made it look like he was playing with a basketball. I'm still at the stage where I have to stop and think, "right joystick left - curl bucket....."
Funny how different countries do different things.. In New Zealand we use a ripper all the time to take out tree stumps and roots. Using the rock bucket (think you called it a 24 inch bucket) sometimes spreads the pressure out too much and you dont get as much force. Got an old bucket for my machine and cut the hitch connection off and welded on a D9 bulldozer ripper on it. Works perfect. Awesome videos by the way man.
So true. I digged out 8 large stumps, 25-36" with my 24" bucket of EX50 and broken 3 teeth of doing it, the creator is 8' x 6' deep, I need a ripper for sure. Thank Andrew!
Have one of these for my B21 Kubota. Not enough weight or hp to do bigger stuff, but comes in really handy for stumps and concrete demo. Also have a trenching plate that slides over the tooth and bolts down - works well for trenching shallow sprinkler line.
Ripper teeth or frost tooth is amazing for stumps. So much easier on the machine. They’re a great investment if you have an excavator. Many uses too. Thanks for spending to time to show people how this method works. Better in the long run to remove the stump than grind it too.
As a plumber I think it would be really neat little attachment for running water lines without disturbing near as much ground . got to go check and see if I can get one for my 335 Bobcat mini mix
been using this technique for years but use an edge (short). They work great for boulder and concrete removal too. You can also make a serration on the back side about half way in case you have to do some gnawing.
I made one similar to that, but cut a saw like pattern into the length of the shank for sawing through roots. works awesome a lot easier on the machine
I’ve got the same ripper. I have considered grinding a sharp edge on the leading side of the ripper. Not sure there would be any draw backs. Would go through the roots like butter.
I believe it was because of your video here that I purchase mine last year and it is been great for doing all sorts of things, so thank you very much sir
Suggest using a rubble bucket for removing the roots after the stumps are out. Use the thumb to hold the roots in place and jiggle the bucket to loosen the soil.
I recently had 3 pretty large tree cut down but I still have the stumps. Do you think renting an E50 with a ripper would be cheaper /more efficient than having a company come use a stump grinder?
I find the stump can suddenly come flying back towards the cab doing this, it does rip them out though, what is the back claw on your arm called, it looks good for lifting rock.
hey man, pretty cool. So I got a crazy quote from an excavation company for leveling and excavating a rocky mountainous property...like 50+K for just a small lot. So I'm wondering if these little things handle rock also. I'd love to be able to rent one or buy one cheap and actually have it for future work. But it would need to be pretty tough and rugged, be able to smash rock, dig up stumps and maybe 6 ft foundation.... can these little one's handle that stuff? any idea?
No. bucket is much harder as you have dig so much deeper to break the main branches, or you may break your bucket teeth first. You also make a huge creator as well....
You'll find many uses for the Frost Hook. I saw a guy install a phone line and invisible dog fence with a hook. Heck you might get 10 videos out of one purchase. Money well spent !
In Australia.. a ripper is pretty much a standard attachment when you buy a new machine , how come you guys don't seem to use mud buckets for easy digging?.. you always use a toothed bucket.
yepp, but only for the insurance lol my ripper is allready fireproofed: if you want to have a look pls go to gasteraner reisszahn take care and work safe

Awesome video, can actually hear what your saying and teaching without all the dam loud music everyone else uses in their videos, Ty!
Beautiful movement like the Great Bruce lee “move like water”. That is some of the best most fluid movements I’ve ever seen!

Do you have any pictures of your trenching plate set up ?
@@Pancakes620 I don't, I sold the B21 several years ago. I know the company I bought it from was Bro-Tek, I'm sure they have a website.
I always use a ripper for knocking down trees and pulling stumps out at the same time. There very handy, plus there great for ripping shale

It probably wouldnt be cheaper but it would be way more fun!! Plus stump grinding leaves a good portion of the stump still in the ground

can you provide a link to an example so we can more easily see what you are explaining?
I use my ripper to open graves when in shale or soft rock and have had it a few years and still have not had to replace the tip
Thanks for all the videos, you are an excellent operator! I try to leave our operator 4' stumps so he has a lever to work, definitely saves time.
Instablaster.
Works good removing rocks also up in NC mtns !!
It's cool to see how much the excavator has become and extension of your body when you use the arm to point at the bucket at 6:55 lol.
Yeah, he doesn't suck!
Hooks up the same as any attachment. Very simple. And yes you could just spear it into the ground

The frost ripper works really good on the stumps! Great video! Keep them coming.
Wow! Amazing to watch somebody so good at their job. Thanks for sharing this
Yes its temporarily down. Ill make an announcement on youtube when its back up
I have some pretty decent size pine stumps ( cut the trees 4yrs ago ) And was wondering how this would work doing the job?
Is that hard to hook up? Like do you get out and lift it or could you just spear it into the ground to swap to a bucket?
I believe it was because of your video here that I purchase mine last year and it is been great for doing all sorts of things, so thank you very much sir
Works good for demolition as well
What would be more useful? This or a 12" bucket?
that's sweet for knocking of root ball dirt !

MultiMonster69 definitely more fun
MultiMonster69 it should be quite a bit cheaper depending on where you live...
Have you tried to take down standing trees with the ripper yet? And if so how well did it work?
What model mini is that?
I need to build one for an old farm backhoe I have.
Everyone in the excavating business who doesn't have a ripper for every excavator is missing the boat.
I'm sorry if I didn't hear you say it but does Bobcat sell it as an attachment?
I built a ripper tooth for my gehl and it works great for stumps 👍🏻
Do you have some drawings that I am building one for my EX50, thx my email: osbornebay77@gmail.com

its a thumb attachment

Watching that stump get pulled out was oddly satisfying

Buddy if there is rock to deal with at any amount 50k is probably reasonable…..
@@dlogan3004 good to know..thanks!
@@bikeninja956 what state are you in?
Is it a quick hitch or pin on style?
Who makes it?
that's pretty fast!! under 5 min for suchs a tree!! Normally takes alot longer! grtz jeroen!
Where can you buy one of those
will a tooth bucket work the same?
No. bucket is much harder as you have dig so much deeper to break the main branches, or you may break your bucket teeth first. You also make a huge creator as well....
I like it. I always like to grind the stumps.
Great vid. Is the thumb part of the attachment, or is just the regular thumb?

Where I can buy a ripper like that one ?
how much do you charge to remove 25 them stump
Did you close your FB? Can't seem to find you.
What did you pay for it
You’re very good at it!!
Yup! Pretty good tool
It will but this is much faster

there are other buckets in north America also lol he just isn't using one haha
Thanks!
Great video! Nice ripper!
I'm going to buy a ripper for my JD! I have too many stumps
So nobody's ever used a root ripper for removing stumps .. mine is about 2 feet long and the last foot is like sedated teeth ..
good job they are lots of fun. Keep up the good work.
got to get me one. thanks
Sweet video
Twin one works heaps better good thing though
Sweet video.
You buy the best. Your the best
Good job, keep the videos rolling. Thanks.

Haha yea I can see that possibly being a problem
Haha Yes I see many uses for this attachment
Great tool.
Faster And Easier on the machine Win Win
Roger that!
It’s all about common sense solutions.
I found this wondering the same thing
