It would be really useful if you create more videos sharing your experiences and more specifically how reserve training and commitments is different form the regulars, the Army website and resources don't do a great job in making this clear, I keep hearing different things and seems very unit dependent which does make sense.

Agree the website isn't the most informative but the training is correct for 4Para - it is mostly weekends unless you're doing a specific course such as the infantrymen, which is then a 2 week stint at Catterick. I start mine in the new year so will be able to find out more, shortly!

No, the entry is the same. Get 11.3 on bleep and you can start with them but you will be expected to have a high level of fitness before basic, and then they train you progressively throughout to build up to P Coy. You do the PRAC sort of stuff later down the line and will be tested on those activities throughout

For anyone wondering I’ve literally just got back with a pass it’s not as bad as you make out in your head just follow basic instructions and you’ll be perfect don’t fall short on your training before hand the staff are extremely down to earth most are really funny actually it’s nothing to worry about going into it along as you done the work before hand hope this helps anyone cheers

@JoeHolmes-s9d In training we have no shower curtains we had a 5 man shower once because we have 5 mins to shower and get outside fully dressed, that was Winchester armoured core

If you passed GCSE level English and Maths which is a grade C and whatever the number equivalent is for the new system then you don't have to do those tests but if you don't have those pass grades then you sit them
Did my assessment 9th of December & Passed with a grade A. My advice is just be honest, best prepared, listen, don’t mess about, and do what your told. You’ll be perfectly fine through it all just make sure you know they are watching you the whole way through. Make a few friends if you can & totally enjoy the experience and what it’s about!! One thing I've learned this week is that the government have a 'Personal Learning Record' for everyone on their website so if you took your GCSEs after 2012, they could all be there and available to download 👍 otherwise you'd have to contact your school or the exam board

It's a big room with about 8 showers, all open space. And you can arrive in whatever you like, you're only doing admin that first evening - I wore my smart stuff there just so it didn't crease in a bag

Hi I don’t know if you will read or even see this message but I wanted to at least try. I’ve been thinking about joining the army for a while and become a infantry soldier. I have seen you don’t need any qualifications or GCSEs and when I was younger I was never really the behaved student and for that reason I missed out on a lot of maths classes. And sadly now I really suck at anything related to maths. And I am worried that I will have any problems like that if I join. If I could get a reply that would help me a lot.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, maybe try and learn in your spare time the basics. Also try and find any example tests that may be on the Internet- could be some army specific ones that may be good for you to try

18 for regular entry but fairly sure at 16 you can go to Harrogate and have a year of training. Fitness wise, just get yourself running and trying to improve distance/speed!

I would like to join infantry reserves but currently working on my fitness at the moment before I start online applications.
I would advise to start your application sooner than later as the process can take a while as you have medical forms and the like which take weeks if not months to come back etc. It was more than 6 months for me when I started to when I got an assessment centre date so you do still get plenty of time to improve your fitness! But when it comes to the assessment centre, they gave me a month's window of dates to choose from so it's really flexible and it would only be on your say so that you felt ready and wanted to go - hope that helps, best of luck!
Depends. If going into the regs, the people on my cohort seemed to be given anywhere from 3 weeks to 2 months but certainly no bog standard date given. If going reserves then it's unit dependent and you'd be best asking your ARC Sgt
For regs, the other guys on my assessment cohort were told soonest 3 weeks but could be a couple months, depends on job choice, availability on courses and when courses run, but your recruiter should be able to inform you of an estimate. For me in reserve Para, it's 2 months wait based on when the specific course next runs

love this!! i know what you mean about no recent videos and this is brilliant. i just have one thing about turning up in your smart gear - would they not have a go at you for it as it said to arrive in sports gear, I understand as it doesn't get screwed in the bag but I just feel they'd pick you for it and then that'll stick with you for not following instructions. I'm a junior soldier (harrogate) doing my assessment centre soon - hopefully jan or feb as soon as medical comes back.
There were no comments about any dress code and I'd say it was 50/50 on my cohort those turning up smart or casual. The only time it really matters what you wear, I would say, is for your interview. Good luck for your assessment!

Did you had to do a test on the computer? And how many pushups did you had to do?
Yes, cognitive test on computer and no push ups. The fitness test is just medicine ball throw, mid thigh pull and a bleep test

What was the bleep test pass level for para’s? That’s what I’m hopefully going into

It was about 20 mins for everyone to be showered and ready, so quite a quick wash when there's 30-40 people and only 8ish showers!

If you're told to do the 2 kilometer ran will it be necessary to do the beep test aswell
For assessment centre, there's currently no 2km run, just the bleep test. You may be asked to do the 2km in your training though

What train station do you get picked up from in Lichfield? Trent or City?
City Station and then you walk over to the bus stop for the coach

love this!! i know what you mean about no recent videos and this is brilliant. i just have one thing about turning up in your smart gear - would they not have a go at you for it as it said to arrive in sports gear, I understand as it doesn't get screwed in the bag but I just feel they'd pick you for it and then that'll stick with you for not following instructions. I'm a junior soldier (harrogate) doing my assessment centre soon - hopefully jan or feb as soon as medical comes back.
There were no comments about any dress code and I'd say it was 50/50 on my cohort those turning up smart or casual. The only time it really matters what you wear, I would say, is for your interview. Good luck for your assessment!

You do a urine test but not sure if that's also for drugs
