That's exactly how I became a fan boy of Yellow from another channel. Although now Yellow does the opposite, start off strong and then lose everything.
I always root for lavender mainly because it’s my favorite color and I call her my problem child

I liked the longer format, but if you want to spice things up, maybe you could make a 5 color race like this, but instead of dropping a whole color, you just drop the 5 slowest marbles, so even if 4 pink balls die in the first round, that last pink one might make it to the end anyway.

My favorite color white finally won a major event. White has won other events but this was a long drawn out win with many close calls and near misses.
The way lime got eliminated was downright disrespectful, he got in first and had a fairly large lead but the gears in the sorting slowed him down far enough that the other finished first
So it's just a game sometimes the thing you like looses

Just a thought, maybe don't have any pendulums in the final leg of a race? Without other marbles things tend to get stuck and it's super dissatisfying to see anything in equilibrium here, especially since (I think) collisions are inelastic so they can theoretically go on forever
Or adding tiny chamfers to the exit holes at the bottom of those final level pendulum bowls might have sped up the process too.

Purple was all alone until Teal came along and was her company. He left but then she went back to him. They went towards the finish line together and both of their teams made it past the stage. But later on, Teals team got left behind and Purple was sad.
