Journalist and 2019 #A100 Honoree Rebecca Sun sat down with Lee Minho, Minha Kim, Jin Ha, and Soo Hugh, reflecting on the return of the hit AppleTV+ show, how their characters and themselves have grown in the past two years, and the behind-the-scenes making of the series.
Based on the New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, “Pachinko” is a sweeping and deeply moving story of love and survival across four generations. The first season received 11 international awards including a Peabody Award, an American Film Institute Award, a Critics Choice Award and a Gotham Independent Film Award. Season two stars Lee Minho, Minha Kim, Anna Sawai, Yuh-Jung Youn, Jin Ha, Eunchae Jung, Soji Arai, Junwoo Han and Sungkyu Kim.

This makes the history and the culture so palpable and real.

And me, as a Korean, absolutely *love* the fact that he speaks Korean so gracefully in his interviews, rather than doing the awkward "I can speak English so well" act that many Korean-Korean actors still do, which seems clumsy at best, and out of date for most.
BTS were the first big ones who started this trend I think, and I just love it so much.

These actors are mentally so mature, they could connect with their characters a lot and convey all that on screen. Great cast, i would have loved to see all of them on screen. Thr book the series is inspired from is beautifully written and it's sad they barely mention it. It's even more deep and emotional, words have a slow burning impact. The production has been incredible so far. Can't wait to see how it's going to develop. I'm so attached to both the book and series... Im so happy to be able to watch it. 💜
I’m loving watching all the interviews & deep conversations with the actors! I’m waiting to watch this one though & any about season 2 because I’m not quite done with season 2. I don’t want to know ahead of time what happens. I’m reading the book too but not reading ahead for the same reason.
I agree - the characters are alive in my mind, which is what happens when I read a great novel. With the show additionally imprinting the emotional impact, I feel it even more. And the dance sequences & music imprint my experience of the characters & their stories even more deeply.
I met Min Jin Lee at a small bookshop at a reading when Pachinko was first published. We had a brief conversation all those years ago & she signed my book. I saved it all these years - it was a busy time in my life & I tucked the book away for another day. It’s such a pleasure to read now, along with the series ♥️💜♥️
