- Performance of Lane Johnson's arrangement of "Brightly Beams Our Father's Mercy." Performed by the BYU Men's Chorus under the direction of Rosalind Hall at the BYU Devotional, April 5, 2011.
Thanks to BYU Broadcasting for the video.
Amen, it’s unbelievable to our human conception the mercy he sheds on us that awesome mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ!
I pray they all have that song in their hearts when they are my age. Beautifully done!
This is a beautiful arrangement of one of my favorite hymns. ❤❤❤
I find this hymn stunning!! - the musical arrangement - the young man playing the Grand Piano - the BYU Young Men's Choir - the harmonising!! - well done - the beautiful words that have a very spiritual significance - it is a great privilege to listen to this profound hymn - we all should be taking care of each other - especially in times of great need.
This hymn was inspired by a story that a preacher shared about ships coming into harbor on Lake Eerie. Though they could see the light of the lighthouse, there was still a high risk of shipwreck navigating the narrow inlet without the aid of the lights (the lower lights) from the villages along the shore. Beautiful imagery - the Lighthouse = The Savior, the Lower lights = us.
The story is that the lower lights were out and a ship tried to make the harbor and crashed Lodi by 128 souls to the depths
This is the best version of this song that I have heard. I am glad that there is some light in this world that there is so much heart ache and difficulty.
I was just a teenager when this hymn was stuck in my head and now I’m a seaman in my 40s..so blessed!!
I have been a 16 year old crew member on an arctic trawler in a storm force 10 gale with around 45 feet waves in a 139 feet trawler. I trusted God and also the naval architect. There was no panic among the crew We were 50 miles from land, and the engine was doing 72 RPM [ to maintain stearing ]. I am trying to use this hymn , and Jesus Saviour Pilot Me. I am trying to help evangelism, and Christian Network Outreach [ computer and Church based] for small poor rice villages Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos [ where there are Hmong and Baptist Churches doing well. Basically I like the DL Moody ministry, and the Old Sankey Hymns. villages in former Indochina [ before the Vietnam War ]. David T. I hope to be in the former Indochina area next month. Blessings to you all.
God bless you and others like you who are reaching out to those that may not have heard the WORD of God! Beautiful song!
I love this hymn. I first recall singing it in Africa. This touches my heart I have been rescued and saved by men and women who don't even know that they have done so. I thank my God for them. Praise to His everlasting name.
Awesome Performance by all -- class choir, classy Conductor Ms. Hall, and the perfectly attuned pianist -- to inspire and importune us to become similar shining examples of love, excellence, proficiency, peace, and charitable services to everyone around...

the beauty of this song and the spirit of the singers speaks for itself.
Love this video. Thanks for posting
This song always touches my heart.
This is my favorite hymn of many!!!!... in my opinion, a capella will sound incredible!!!...I feel the pianist is trying to overcome the chorus, because he plays forte and in some parts, I couldn't hear the words...regards from México!!!...07/11/2024
In the old West German Mission [1961-64] we often sang this hymn which always helped me soldier on through the weather and the endless doors, which seldom opened to us. But the tears still come when I hear this call to "rescue" and "save." Thanks guys--singing and the brother playing the piano.
I've always loved the words to this hymn. Much props to BYU for this very powerful, beautiful rendition.
Thank-you for posting this top quality video!!! I give it a standing ovation right from my heart!!!
Beautiful.
INSPIRATIONAL!!!! The words and music helped me to hang on!
STUNNING! Absolutely breathtaking.
That's a really pretty arrangement. Also, this song always makes me cry.
Absolutely love this. Thankyou.
Thank you for posting this beautiful performance. You can really feel the testimony of these boys: that they really believe what they are singing about. Thank you, all of you wonderful young men, for being lower lights... and willing to stand for Jesus Christ.
@tigerlilly66 it's such a shame in this country of freedom that we can not let others come to God how they see fit. I am so proud to call Christ my Savior and worship freely. I hope others do the same, as they choose. Together all believers can make a difference when we accept eachother
I love that song - Lovely
Amazing!
Beautiful hymn, the harmony was outstanding. (Just wish the piano wasn't so loud).
this is a beautiful song
Mgnificent presentation! This lovely hymn waas written by Philip Paul Bliss towards the end of the 19th. Century. I suggest that looking up his biographical details might prove both humbling and uplifting, transcending differences in theological opinion. The hymn has 3 properties sadly lacking in many more recent offerings. 1: it has melody, 2: it makes use of poetic imagery, and, it has a Message!

what a great arrangement and sung so beautifully Keep up the good work guys
Beautiful 🙏 🎶 🕊 🎵 🕊 ✨️ 🎶
Next time... I am one of the BYU Men's Choir :)
Very nice! thank you
This is a well arranged and well-performed arrangement. Thank You!
Try searching for "Brightly Beams Our Father's Mercy A Capella JamezCase". 4 guys singing this beautiful song Acapella!
I love the guy they caught at 2:01 who must have just yawned and wasn't singing along.
I'm not sure what scripture says it, ladies and gentlemen, but I do know that Christ has taught that "...contention is of the devil..." Therefore, can we please just enjoy the beautiful music that is here for us? And, before passing judgement on others, remember that no one is perfect, and the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints never claimed to be. I truly am sorry if this offends anyone, but it is true.
When unsure of a scripture, search the scriptures.
Maravilhoso!
Tonga sent me here from 1981

"By their fruits ye shall know them." Actions and beliefs of LDS are much different than the tainted brush your strokes leave. How could these clean cut, dedicated young men bring such joy to those who open their hearts, if not of a firm foundation of Christ. I have yet to see any lead into a ditch. Their vision is true and faithful. Try on some new glasses and get yourself out of the ditch.
"... only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned;
By kindness and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hyprocrisy, and without guile..."
"We then who are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak..." Apostle Paul.
What does BYU stand for please?
Resplandeçam Nossas Luzes, através do escuro véu....Foi gravado por PAT BOONE, e por outros cantores. Não é um hino
,muito conhecido no Brasil, apesar de muito bonito.
😮👍mull 👍👍👍👍👍vien 🙋♂️👍👍👍
Thanks, Miguel. Glad you enjoyed it.
more like 1:59
I'll be happy to pull the mote of my eye when you get rid of the BEAM in your own. Indeed...by their fruits ye shall know them. The fruit of LDS is blasphemy of the ONE true and living God, the rank of which NO MAN shall ever attain.
"A plurality of gods and inhabited worlds is essential to the validty of the doctrine of exaltation wherein millions from this earth will reign as kings & queens - Rod Turner, The Pearl of Great Price: Revelations from God, page 103
Isaiah 45:5 says otherwise.
@ramsam70 = I'm sure, as a good Mormon, that you DO call Christ your savior...in ignorance. I have LDS family and have spent decades listening to them tell me that they're "Christians" too. I'm old enough to remember the day when if you called a Mormon a "Christian", you just might get punched out. Since the angel Moroni told Joseph Smith that ALL the Christian churches were an abomination, why would you say're you're one?
Amos 3:3 - how can two walk together except they be agreed?
Tigerlilly66 you misrepresent the truth! It wasn't Moroni who had this conversation with Joseph Smith; it was Jesus Christ. Christ didn't tell Joseph, "All the Christian churches were an abomination." Joseph asked which church he should join, and Jesus told him to "join none of them for they are all wrong...and that all their creeds were an abomination in His sight." Creeds are manmade descriptions of the Godhead. The definition of a Christian is anyone who believes that Jesus Christ was the Son of God the Father. In addition Jesus is also a member of the Godhead, who was the God, Jehovah, of the Old Testament that called and spoke to prophets whom he had called, who was also the God of the New Testament who came to the earth as a mortal man (but still a God) to restore and teach the fulness of his gospel, to live it by example, and to perform an atoning sacrifice that reconciles men to God by: 1. suffering for the sins of all mankind, 2. dying on the cross, and 3. being resurrected from the dead. This atonement brings about the eventual and universal resurrection of all mankind, and the conditional salvation of those who "do the will of the Father" as Jesus explained (Matt 7:21) or as Paul put it, "Christ became the author of eternal salvation unto all who OBEY Him." (Heb 5:9) Jesus Christ now sits at the right hand of the Father where he continues his role as God along with the Father and the Holy Spirit.
In preparation for His second coming this same Jesus Christ began the fulfillment of the prophecy found in Acts 3: 19-21 in 1820 when he called a prophet to assist him in the "restitution of all things." See Amos 3:7 During the course of the following 10 years Christ fulfilled Ezekiel 37: 15-19 by bringing forth another testament of Jesus Christ from the tribe of Joseph and his son Ephraim, The Book Mormon. It, along with the record of the tribe of Judah (The Bible) have "become one in the hand of the Lord." During 1829 Jesus Christ also sent John the Baptist to restore the Aaronic Priesthood which has the authority to baptize by immersion for the remission of sins. Shortly thereafter He sent Peter, James, and John to restore the Melchizedek Priesthood and the holy apostleship, which has the authority to give the Gift of the Holy Ghost so that individuals may be "sanctified by the Holy Spirit" and the authority to administer the Church of Jesus Christ (Eph 2: 19-22, 4: 11-14) (I'm sure you also recall that Jesus taught, "Except a man be born of the water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.) In 1830 Jesus instructed his prophet to organize His church just as He had organized it when He was upon the earth and gave it the name which He chose; namely, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. So, No, we don't call Jesus Christ our Savior in ignorance. Because Christ has brought forth approximately 1000 pages of new revelation from Him in preparation for his eventual second coming to rule as King of kings and Lord of lords during the millennium we are in a far better position to know His will and His plans than the rest of Christendom.
"if the blind lead the blind, shall both fall into the ditch" (Matt. 15:14).
These earnest, clean-cut, and thoroughly dedicated young men have been deceived by the god of this world. There is no salvation in a religion that teaches that Lucifer and Jesus offered their plans for the world's redemption, and that Jesus squeaked out the win. Utter blasphemy. "Father God" was not once a man, and who now populates Kolob while cavorting with his many goddess wives. Yet more blasphemy.
Father god *is* a man.
