Hi, good plans and video, just started to build! I downloaded the metric pdf plans and noted something that looks like an error in the cutting list. I believe that item A should be 495mm instead of 343mm that’s in the cutting list?
All of your wood projects are teaching lessons. You don't need any explanation to rationalize if it was needed (as in this video). We even love listening your voice and smile. It is great time pass as well. At the end, thanks for teaching and sharing. May God keep you and your family healthy, happy and live long. Regards dear teacher brother.
Finished up one of these with a few amusing modifications - Had to use 1/4 aluminum bar because I drilled quarter inch holes before realizing the only wood dowels I had were 3/8. Also got a small reminder in fundamental magnetism when trying to secure my brass bodied No 4...
love magnets, so handy, so forever. Thanks for sharing the build. BTW also love the outatime license plate, i smile every time i notice it in your videos.
I built myself one of these a few years ago (looks very similar, but completely different construction) and it’s been one of the best things I ever made. I layer made one to hold hand drills, mostly because I thought a drill till just sounded neat. Keep up the good work!
I don't have any hand planes at this time, but I still enjoy and get good ideas from your projects. Thanks for doing the videos. It is worth it to lots of us folks.
Great timing. I’m getting ready to move to my new shop and this is just what I was looking for. I don’t quite have enough hand planes to fill this but I think I can use the extra room to store a few foot-long subs 😀
I noticed that you have a love of retro video games as well as woodworking. Do you have any woodworking projects that you use for displaying a game collection?
I want to make one of these but have a little executioner figurine at the top. When I place a plane on the till a little guillotine slides down and holds the plane in place
Hi, I lined the slots with thin polystyrene to protect the blades etc.You dont mention things like angle cuts tilt etc.what magnets did you use and where to get them?
I do like the design of this till and I plan to incorporate some parts in my own design. Thank you for sharing. Still, I find it ironic that you made this till for hand tools entirely using power tools.
Marc, where did you get the purple filters used for spraying. The ones I have are only for dust. Would be nice to have those instead of switching out dust filter and a vapor respirator cartridge for finishing.
Your timing is impeccable. A simple plane till is this weekend's project. I was going to use plywood but you've inspired me to use that maple I've been working around
I like Mattias Wandel's method for holding plans. Mostly because it works with out magnets and I don't want my planes magnetized, and half of my planes are brass....
Marc mentioned there’s a downside to using magnets at the start but didn’t elaborate. What is the downside so I can consider it (maybe compensate for it) before committing to a similar build?
It looked like your table saw fence was a combination of the powermatic fence and very super cool tools fence. Did you combine them some how or do you have two fences on your table saw?
Apparently, I missed the episode where Tiny Tool-Belt Guy lost his head. Shop accident, or is Mrs. Tiny Tool-Belt Guy a praying mantis? 😁 Great job as always.
Nice job, love the magnet idea too! Have a question, how do you deal with planer snipe? I'll need to plane various lengths of hardwoods of 8/4 thickness milled to 1 3/4" and from 10" long up to 6-7 feet in length. So I'm worried about dealing with snipe with my Dewalt DW735 planer, about to install my helical head for it also. 🤗
A Question Mark, I have an Art piece coming up with laminated lumber glued around a form, The curves arent super tight, it'll be about a 48-60" radius, (still planning the exacts dimensions) and I'll only be making a portion (about 36" of that radius) Are there woods I should avoid when doing bent lamination? You may have covered this in a video before, I just dont recall. Thanks for the assistance! The Plane till looks great, love th magnets too, Spend a lot on a good/great tool, ya got to take really good care of it, a drop to the floor doesnt sound like a good plan ;)
Can you please tell me when you made your plane till, what angle did you cut on the top and bottom of the Main Panel? Your plan states “Mark angle per Video” but in your video you never stated what the angle was. Please help!
Maybe you will be kind enough to respond to a question. I see you have a Powermatic drill press, and I know they use to be a sponsor of yours. But I am thinking of buying the Delta 18-900L drill press. Do you have any suggestions or comments between the two?
Never used the Delta so I can speak for it. Sorry. But when it comes to drill presses, I really don’t ask much of them. Give me a solid table, a good fence, and a motor that spins a bit without runout and I’m a happy man.
Love it! I do not have very good dust collection in my shop and everything gets covered with a layer of dust. Would this be a good idea in that case, or should I make something with doors to keep the dust off? Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!!
Well that's really up to you. If you're bothered by dust on your hand planes, then you'll want doors. If it doesn't bother you, a simple plane till will work just fine.
@@woodwhisperer Thanks for the quick reply. I should have been more clear. My concern is with the hydroscopic nature of dust in combination with humidity. Is this really an issue that can lead to rust or corrosion, or is that just one of those "woodworking myths"?
Dust is hydroscopic. Whether it amounts to anything depends on your humidity levels, how long you let the dust sit there, and what kind of protection you put on the planes to protect from rust.
@@johncware66 This is ultimately a goal, unfortunately my budget is limited and some of my tools to not have dust collection of any kind. until I can upgrade that, a dust collection system isn't much help. so masks for now.
What planes would you recommend for someone that is getting into hand tools, I have a lee valley close to me, so am leaning on veritas, but don’t want to be buying planes that I won’t need
Fantastic. I like the proportions of everything but the big strength I think is that this isn’t massive. You can fit it in on the wall between everything else up there. Anyone deciding between a large tool cabinet and smaller tills is going to have a more difficult time deciding when they see this project.
Loving the sci-fi hints around your shop. I hadn't noticed Riker before, love it, but the Enterprise inside the Millennium Falcon is a particular fave of mine (love Star Trek). And the Enterprise-D as well. Nice.
Those shoulder planes make me nervous. they are so much taller and top heavy compared to the more traditional plans. Seems like they could work their way out.
Hey, paisan anyone bothers you let me know ill send the leg breakers your way . Thanks for the video great content. I am needing one for my daddy's hand planes he left me.. Peace,, eat more pasta
Is there any way we could contact you directly? I have a son who is turning 16 and we are trying to come up with something special for his birthday. We would like to fly him out to possibly meet you and see your shop. He is completely into woodworking and you are his top go to to learn. Long shot, but I thought I would ask.
NCC-1701. ‘No bloody, A, B, C or, bloody D’. Damn right, Scotty! Sorry, couldn’t help myself when I saw the Enterprise. Anyway, back to the subject. This is a really good project I need to do. It saves space and perhaps with only one side of blue tape on the planes, it should be a little more snug? Or do you think it would be too snug? On another note, the taper jig looks fantastic. Keep up the great work. P.S. I was going to mention the Riker manoeuvre, but you don’t have a chair.
Marc let's be honest...your shop won't look like a 12 year old's bedroom until there is a racing car bed. That's required. In all seriousness...I'm considering abandoning the "vintage" planes and buying modern premium planes. What's your opinion of the Veritas low angles vs. Lie-Nielse standard?
Looking for plans? Go here: twwstore.com/products/compact-plane-till-plan?ToPasteBoard&
Marc, would you ever consider this similar concept good for chisels too??
Turned out great 👍
Hi, good plans and video, just started to build! I downloaded the metric pdf plans and noted something that looks like an error in the cutting list. I believe that item A should be 495mm instead of 343mm that’s in the cutting list?
Glad to see you had room for the Enterprise. 🙂
Love the sound of the great gold table saw.
Great shop project. A plane till is perfect to add to a tool cabinet as well. A saw till is another great shop project
That saw clamp is awesome!!
🦋🦋🦋 You're a beautiful butterfly, Marc. 🦋🦋🦋
teehee!
Can't wait to build this when my shop is finally up
All of your wood projects are teaching lessons. You don't need any explanation to rationalize if it was needed (as in this video). We even love listening your voice and smile. It is great time pass as well. At the end, thanks for teaching and sharing. May God keep you and your family healthy, happy and live long. Regards dear teacher brother.
Given the decorations I see that you've made this as a "Number One" project... :)
Smart looking plane holder. Thanks for the plans.
A beautiful plane till for some beautiful planes!
Finished up one of these with a few amusing modifications - Had to use 1/4 aluminum bar because I drilled quarter inch holes before realizing the only wood dowels I had were 3/8. Also got a small reminder in fundamental magnetism when trying to secure my brass bodied No 4...
1:41 that cam/lever is pretty sweet.
love magnets, so handy, so forever. Thanks for sharing the build. BTW also love the outatime license plate, i smile every time i notice it in your videos.
Wow…been a while since we heard the classic TWW funk jam, hasn’t it? Nice!
Nice project and collection of planes Marc!
Thanks for the video and plans. Just what I needed to keep, busy 😊
Putting this on my list to make
really nice. more shop projects please!!!
LOVE IT!!!!!
Got the plans and can't wait to build it!
Just in time! I've been mulling over a way to organize my planes. Thank you!
I built myself one of these a few years ago (looks very similar, but completely different construction) and it’s been one of the best things I ever made. I layer made one to hold hand drills, mostly because I thought a drill till just sounded neat. Keep up the good work!
Delightful, butterflies and all. Wazzat wee bounce as the wood exits the planer?
I like the vibe, being a tech nerd too and aspiring wood worker :p
How to get scrap quality hardwoods, mind - blown!🤯
Thank you for the free plans! So glad you converted to metric as well, as I have no idea what 17/32nd's is!
I don't have any hand planes at this time, but I still enjoy and get good ideas from your projects. Thanks for doing the videos. It is worth it to lots of us folks.
I really liked this build. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
The best part of this video was the headless Tom Silva action figure. The woodworking was ok too 😀
Nice job Mark. You have made an extremely fine plane till
Great timing. I’m getting ready to move to my new shop and this is just what I was looking for. I don’t quite have enough hand planes to fill this but I think I can use the extra room to store a few foot-long subs 😀
If the magnets hold onto your footlong subs I would advise that you do NOT eat that sub :D
@@DrWeird don’t worry, subs are purely ornamental 😀
I was getting ready to build something just like this. Perfect timing on your part!
Nice build.
I've seen similar ones and been wanting to make one for a while. Thanks!
I would prefer drawers for a woodshop... besides that, great build! 👍
I noticed that you have a love of retro video games as well as woodworking. Do you have any woodworking projects that you use for displaying a game collection?
Отличная работа!👍👍👍👍👍
I want to make one of these but have a little executioner figurine at the top. When I place a plane on the till a little guillotine slides down and holds the plane in place
Lol, nice!
much better all together, looks amazing 😊
That's really cool! Well done!
Hi, I lined the slots with thin polystyrene to protect the blades etc.You dont mention things like angle cuts tilt etc.what magnets did you use and where to get them?
I think you forgot to mention that commander riker is a necessity on this build, and it isn’t a plane stand without one! Great build!
Blue tape what is that where buy? Cherry in Portugal and walnutt is a mirage in the desertt, but thank you for your kindness an ideas.
I do like the design of this till and I plan to incorporate some parts in my own design. Thank you for sharing. Still, I find it ironic that you made this till for hand tools entirely using power tools.
Sounds like a great project for my new Hybrid workbench…….
Marc, where did you get the purple filters used for spraying. The ones I have are only for dust. Would be nice to have those instead of switching out dust filter and a vapor respirator cartridge for finishing.
Can you share why you chose low angle hand planes as opposed to the other way? Or did you cover that in a video? Sorry if you’ve covered that before.
Why did I NEVER think to put magnets in these... That makes so much sense.....
great video
Pretty beautiful work, Mark! 😃
It really turned out fantastic!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
cool, good job
Marc mentioned there’s a downside to using magnets at the start but didn’t elaborate. What is the downside so I can consider it (maybe compensate for it) before committing to a similar build?
It's awesome, reminds me of......MY plane till. 😁
Oh, what happened to that dude's head? 😲😲
Great idea man, thank you for sharing🙌🤘🙌
Great shop project and thanks for giving away the plans!! Glad to see you’re protecting your hearing against that rattle can 🤣
Excellent
looking forward to built this!
and i will install magnet at the back of the board isnt it possible ?
I thought you had lie Nielsen low angle? 🤔 I just watched you used it on the bread storage thingy
It looked like your table saw fence was a combination of the powermatic fence and very super cool tools fence. Did you combine them some how or do you have two fences on your table saw?
They are combined. Best of both worlds. A little heavy and large, but it works.
Thanks Marc! Really appreciate the great content and the free plans. Small shop here in Bend, OR so I think I’ll give this project a go. God Bless.
that's exactly what I need to make
Why would some people take issue with the magnets?
Enjoyed the video! Always a pleasure
They don't have faith they will hold the planes securely. Maybe they're in earthquake country. :)
Apparently, I missed the episode where Tiny Tool-Belt Guy lost his head. Shop accident, or is Mrs. Tiny Tool-Belt Guy a praying mantis? 😁
Great job as always.
All low angle planes!?! Is this the direction i should go?
Ok but where do you find cherry or walnut, at all?
Nice job, love the magnet idea too! Have a question, how do you deal with planer snipe? Loving it, definitely doing something like this with the magnets! Thanks for the inspiration (still strange not seeing powermatic as a sponsor)

great idea using magnets
Liking the screen placement. Would be cool to see you use it like a whiteboard to explain concepts like you did with the plans.
0:31 Why aren't some people totally comfortable with magnets?
Well at least now I know what my tool wall is missing: The Enterprise. Let's work on that...

Maybe a chair for him to put his foot on?
