In Jr high music class(15 years ago) we were asked to bring in a song that we liked to show to the class which we would then discuss genres and the structure of song etc. I was a young kid just getting into ska and brought in this song. I just thought it was such a fun track. I was met with weird looks and rude comments from the other kids in class who were picking popular songs from the radio. They hadn't heard this type of music much before and their response to me was discouraging. When I looked back after that class I realized that I didn't think it was worth it to just follow the other kids and try to fit in, since I wasn't really fitting in anyway, and it was better to just follow and be interested in what I was interested in. It was a life-changing realization for me and my heart always beats a little faster when I hear this song to this day. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
