Cairns Reconciliation Stalled by Council

Cairns Reconciliation was stalled by Councillors when they failed to support an important agenda item.
At the meeting on 23 July 2023 there was an item on the agenda to extend Councils Reconciliation Action Plan.
A Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is simply a document that provides a framework for organisations to be inclusive and to contribute to reconciliation. A RAP enables organisations to sustainably and strategically take meaningful action.
RAPs provide tangible and substantive benefits for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, increasing economic equity and supporting First Nations self-determination.
I was devastated when Council failed to pass this plan. I believe they failed council and more importantly, they failed our first people.
