The guitar work on this was eons ahead of its time! It went over peoples heads. Now it is a classic and all guitar players know of it but back then, it was too much for most to comprehend.

By far my favorite Scorpions song🔥... I agree with you about that era. The 70s & 80s were the best for me.

I have seen the band in Cologne Germany 1977 in the auditorium of the university of Cologne. I payed 5 DM (Deutsch Mark) and thee were about 40 to 50 people watching them! They lost one member of the band to UFO and Uli Jon Roth replaced one of the Schenker brothers. What a great song. Thank you for reacting to it after 46 years I ever listened that song for the first time.

The 2 first albums of Scorpions are excellent. Not metal, more progressive krautock. Very different from their later output.
Another German band that rocked hard you should try Birth Control.

If you want to hear a more intense version of this song , check out the version on Uli's ' Scorpions Revisited' album . Its a mind blowing reinterpretation. Cheers!

I was also 7 when this was out. My older brother had a massive record collection. Which I would sneakily play when he went out. Scorpions, Gillan, Tygers of Pan Tang, Diamond head, Rainbow, Sabbath and the list goes on.

Charon (prononced Keaon) was the one who ferried the souls of the dead across the River Styx to the Land of the Dead. He demanded a coin as payment, or he'd leave you to wander on the wrong side forever. Hence the custom of using coins to weigh down the eyes of the dead.

More 70's Scorpions. I always tell reactors who do Scorpions they need to check out the 70's stuff, but they rarely do. I think it's their best stuff. I love the 80's metal Scorpions, but the 70's is the real s**t. The full "Fly to the Rainbow" and "In Trance" albums would be highly recommended for starters. And the "Lovedrive" album from '79, the first one after Uli Roth left the band, probably their best post-Uli album.

Who else thinks this sounds like if Dio had Randy Rhodes as a lead guitar 🎸 player? Because it definitely sounds like Randy in his days with Ozzy Osbourne.

The thrash metal band, Testament, does a cool cover of this song! Both versions are interesting in different ways.

That song is an absolute banger. It has also been covered by Yngwie Malmsteen in the late 90s.
