    It worked? Really? Stopping AFTER hitting the pedestrian (bear) means it didn't work.

      The bear isn’t radio reflective like a human is though.

    Does dual-zone climate control work? Does AEB work? Richard and Pritchard have tested 'em. Want to know what else actually works? Ever wondered if it's illegal to do something while driving? Tell us what you'd like Richard and Pritchard to test, next. And they'll do it... maybe.

    The AEB in my 2016 Golf Comfortline has saved me so many times!!! lol. i love it.

      If I'm honest - gotta say AEB has saved me a few times, too! Richard Berry

      Oh my god. Please get off the road for the safety of others if you've needed AEB that many times.

    I'm driving 2016 xc60 and is working perfectly and it saved me a lot. I'm not sure with boxes.🤣

    I did the same with my Jaguar xe, it didnt stop.....but the T-Roc worked totally fine 3/3, with the Peugeot 5008 also worked fine, it saved me from an accident....so pity that I spend so much money in a car as a jaguar and the AEB made only a sound and the visible triangle :/

    My confidence in A.E.B. is now in shatters

      Hi David, remember we tested it on paper-stuffed - an actual human would no doubt have more radar energy. On the way back to the office the AEB activated when the car in front stopped suddenly. So it definitely works. Richard Berry

      What's radar energy?

    • @carsguide
      @carsguide  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Oscar, radar is electromagnetic energy which travels in waves. The XC 60 fires radar forward and if it encounters any objects the radar energy will bounce back as a kind of echo. Volvo's engineers told me that the XC 60's radar is designed to discount cardboard boxes and similar items to prevent the system going into a full emergency brake if say one blew out onto the road - the repercussions of the XC60 braking on a highway unnecessarily would be a danger in itself. AEB worked... and smashed the bear. :-(

  • @garryhopkins

    Bit surprised that the car still hit the bear with enough force to knock him to the ground so that poor bear smashed his head against the concrete roadway with sufficient force to probably cause concussion, subarachnoid haemorrhage and brain damage ... assuming “bear” had a brain of course. I think the system should be calibrated to stop the car before it hits a pedestrian.

      Garry H it was a glass smooth surface hence the slide, but brakes came on sufficiently earlier

      I was surprised it worked but also surprised that even if activated it didn't pull up short. I would say this is because the conditions were far from ideal - our scrunched up newspaper bear would not have had the same radar energy as a human and the system may have not reacted the same way it would on a person. And yes the slippery concrete floor didn't help either. Although the car made contact with the bear, AEB did stop the car and prevented it from running over our big cuddly mate. Richard Berry

    It did not work because it needs to be radio reflective

    Didn't the CEO of Volvo get knocked over trying this exact stunt in front of the cameras? :D

    Of course it works that's why it is on all Volvos.

    30km/h is yesterday's technology. cars now should be able to do AEB within 60km/h coz no cars will drive under 30km/h. Good attempt testing it but it still hit the bear soooooooooo

    • @carsguide
      @carsguide  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We didn't want to set the speed too high as we need enough room to pull up safely, but Volvo's XC60 will automatically brake to avoid a collision with a pedestrian at speeds of up to 70km/h. Richard Berry
